To feed my 3 yo this for dinner...

DS has been at nursery all day. He had breakfast at home, second breakfast at nursery, snack, lunch and afternoon snack.
He’s not going to starve.

It’s too bloody hot to cook so I ordered pizza from a naice chain about an hour ago. Still not here, restaurant can’t tell me how long it’ll be and DS needs a bath and to get to bed.

AIBU to give him:
Cutted up orange
Cucumber sticks
Carrot sticks
Breadsticks
Full fat Greek Yogurt bowl with crispies, but of dried fruit, chia seeds etc?

For dinner?!

I know it’s a bit shit. It’s just so hot and I really really don’t want to start making a dinner dinner now if he’s just going to fall asleep (filthy) before it’s on the table....

I don’t have any cheese. Or ham. Or anything animal based except the yogurt because I was a knob head, left the fridge open yesterday when it was 10000 degrees Sad and everything went wrong in there.

Sounds fine to me! I loved a ‘picky tea’ as a kid

Dieu · 24/07/2019 18:22

Totally fine, especially in this weather!

PooWillyBumBum · 24/07/2019 18:22

Sounds fine but YABU for writing “cutted”

Minai · 24/07/2019 18:22

That sounds fine to me. It’s only one night and I’m sure he will think it’s a good dinner! It’s too hot for a cooked dinner anyway

TheSheepofWallSt · 24/07/2019 18:23

@PooWillyBumBum

Look in classics for “cutted up pear” Wink

Sounds great! My DS's favourite dinner is a snacky dinner. Hell even my favourite dinner is a snacky dinner!

WorraLiberty · 24/07/2019 18:24

Do you think it's going to make any kind of difference, is that why you're asking?

I mean are you asking if it might upset his stomach or something?

PooWillyBumBum · 24/07/2019 18:24

I’m sure it’s in use somewhere but it sounds so shudder. As far as I’m concerned it’s a sliced orange ;)

TheSheepofWallSt · 24/07/2019 18:25

@WorraLiberty

Just worried it’s a terribly unsubstantial dinner for a 3yo.

Now if I whacked a pear on there, I would be worried. Envy (not envy. DS’s kryptonite)

WorraLiberty · 24/07/2019 18:26

Yes but it's one day, OP.

He'll be fine.

Knittedfairies · 24/07/2019 18:26

That's fine. It's a salad...sort of.

LadyMacbethWasMisunderstood · 24/07/2019 18:26

Sounds pretty much fine. Is there a bit more protein he can have? Hard boiled egg? Few cubes of cheese or chicken. It’s not a disaster without though.

MrsSiriusBlack1 · 24/07/2019 18:26

Picky tea is the worst phrase ever AngryGrin

EinsteinsArousedSausagesHCB · 24/07/2019 18:26

Sounds fine to me.

Mine had cucumber, lettuce and orange pepper. Refused all offers of anything else. It's too bloody hot.

Camomila · 24/07/2019 18:28

That is fine, sometimes DS is so shattered after nursery he just wants porridge and to go to bed!

Ijumpedtheshark · 24/07/2019 18:28

Sounds fine to me.

Hotterthanahotthing · 24/07/2019 18:28

If they eat anything when its hot be greatful.I used to give my DD picnics like this,if still hungry give pizza,,,,(save a small slice).
Commiserations on you fridge diaster.I have done this to the freezer a few times(we put child lock on to stop me doing it),,as batch cooking defrosted uncool good beep into the night and eating interesting food combos of the cooked stuff for a week is not something to be doing when the weather is hot.
I would perhaps and some ice-cream for balance,,😀

TheBeesKnee · 24/07/2019 18:28

It's one day, he'll be fine. Do you have the usual food he has for breakfast for tomorrow morning?

Divebar · 24/07/2019 18:30

I love that you have Chia Seeds but no bread Grin
My DH was bathing my DD7 the other night after she’d been at holiday club. It was only as she was in the water that he realised he hadn’t actually given her dinner. She’s a real foody so I’m guessing she wasn’t that bothered with the heat.

MumGoneCrazy · 24/07/2019 18:30

My DC love a picnic tea as they call it. Yesterday they had breakfast of cereal and toast, lunch was 2 hotdogs and yoghurt, a snack of mini cheddars and grapes and for tea they had ham salad wraps, fruit salad, crackers, cheese and a chocolate mousse.
They are 14, 12 and 9 and chose it all themselves.

HairyFloppins · 24/07/2019 18:30

Sounds fine to me.

What is the nice pizza chain? I had Dominos the other day as it was too hot to cook.

growlingbear · 24/07/2019 18:30

What's wrong with that? My DC lived on tinned spaghetti with carrot and cucumber sticks and grated cheese when they were that age. Al the lovingly prepared recipes got spat out, so on days like this I went straight to plan B. They are still alive 14 years later.

SilentSister · 24/07/2019 18:31

My DD's used to call these carpet picnics. On long hot, busy, days, after a day at school or nursery, where they have already been fed a meal, this was always considered a perfect supper.

I would usually add a few tomatoes, and some cheese, but other than that, it looks good.

TheSheepofWallSt · 24/07/2019 18:32

I was absolutely devastated, particularly as I’d just done the big shop @Hotterthanahotthing

@TheBeesKnee
Cereal, fruit, frozen croissants all present and correct. Smile

Re PooWilly, I was just about to ask the OP where the cutted up pear was!
