Why all the anti school/teacher threads?

245 replies

shithappens123 · 23/07/2019 23:04

I’ve not been a member for long but I’ve noticed the amount of school bashing threads on MM. it’s almost as if some patents see the school as an enemy not as organisations wanting to educate their children the best they can.

I’ve read threads on how they gleefully complain about teachers (seems more in primary education though) and saying how incompetent they are when they have no idea how hard they work.

Teachers are fair game on here and it’s most disturbing.

@herculepoirot2

Oh dear. You’re one of those public sector employees who resents the people who pay you.

herculepoirot2 · 24/07/2019 13:30

Ricky44

Of course, you will do what you like. I can’t stop you being obtuse and unpleasant. I just wish the Government would step up and tell people like you to be reasonable or fuck off.

herculepoirot2 · 24/07/2019 13:31

Ricky44

I don’t resent people who pay me. I am a SAHM. I resent people who make it impossible for other people to do their jobs, then pretend they are paying them out of their own pockets when, actually, they are benefiting from a subsidised service.

Ricky44 · 24/07/2019 13:31

@hercule

Oops, I’ve disagreed with a sacred teacher. Therefore that teacher wishes the government would ban my child from state education.

Says it all.

@shithappens123

More money can not be used as an excuse for what my DS and I have been through.

This is exactly what I’m getting at all public services need more investment but it’s not a reason for rudeness and dismissive behaviour.

Noodledoodledoo · 24/07/2019 13:33

Also in reference to being a bad teacher - I have had parents complain about me and call me this as I refused to do their childs controlled assessment and made them do the work himself but in the same class had parents say how much their child loved being in my class. We are people some are going to like us some are not going to like us - same as all walks of life!

In the case of the first one I had spent multiple lunchtimes and lessons giving him very structured advise about what to do but this was still not good enough.

shithappens123 · 24/07/2019 13:34

Ricky44 Tbh you sound like one of those parents, you might be humoured but ultimately you won’t be taken seriously. I’ve listened to staff room talk over the years.

I think what says it all is the drain of qualified teachers from the profession, sick to the back teeth of people who want them to educate their children, but want to harass and abuse them as they do it.

Ricky44 · 24/07/2019 13:39

@shithappens123

DP is a lawyer and we would take it further than the staff room, if we had reason to complain.

So your answer is to bitch in the staff room about parents who complain? Then wonder why the general public have no respect for teachers anymore.

SmileEachDay · 24/07/2019 13:40

I earn 70k so pay around 15k a year tax. I expect a return on investment from all public services

You probably should talk to the people running public services then - you’re unlikely to get a decent return without substantial investment. Public services are trying to do more with less money. It’s shit.

Public sector employees often forget that they are paid to provide a public service

Ok. How about I just provide the service I am directly paid for, in my directed time, and stop doing any of the other stuff?

Ricky44 · 24/07/2019 13:42

@Smileeachday

Most people do overtime. It’s not just teachers.

Ricky44 · 24/07/2019 13:43

Thankfully DD is at a good school and the teachers seem to be reasonable people, unlike a lot of the teacher posters on this thread.

shithappens123 · 24/07/2019 13:45

Ricky44 my husband is a barrister so I am aware of those who have genuine complaints.

Respect works both ways, you ought to realise that.

Raindrops2019 · 24/07/2019 13:45

@Ricky44. are you serious with what you are saying to herculepoirot? Can you hear yourself?

You really sound as though you have an issue with teachers.

herculepoirot2 · 24/07/2019 13:46

Ricky44

I am sure her teachers are reasonable people. Would you show them this thread, though? I bet you wouldn’t.

SmileEachDay · 24/07/2019 13:48

Most people do overtime. It’s not just teachers

Yep, I know. Most people either get paid for it or are on phenomenally higher salaries than an average teacher - making the p/h rate reasonable. Many teachers end up on barely minimum wage if you work it out p/h.

Your “I expect a return” attitude annoyed me, I guess - with your extremely comfortable financial situation, it felt a little “lady of the manor”. Perhaps I misinterpreted your intention.

We, in the main, want to provide children with the best possible experience- we often can’t because there is not enough funding in schools.

Ricky44 · 24/07/2019 13:49

@herculepoirot2

If I did, I think that they would be horrified at your attitude to the people you teach and their parents.

herculepoirot2 · 24/07/2019 13:51

Ricky44

Whereas I think they would be horrified at your “I pay your wages and expect a return on my investment” rhetoric. Oh well. Perhaps we are both right. Are you going to show them?

Raindrops2019 · 24/07/2019 13:51

Ah @Ricky44 would you put a sock in it.

Ricky44 · 24/07/2019 13:52

@shithappens123

Are you telling me off? 😂😂😂

I have respect for the teachers at DDs school, just not a lot of the posters on this thread. Their attitude is disgusting. One teacher thinks that the children of any parent who disagrees with her should be banned from state education by the government.

hashtagthathappened · 24/07/2019 13:54

Oh come on smile, surely you know that’s bollocks?

Ricky44 · 24/07/2019 13:54

@herculepoirot2

Can we show your comments to the parents at your school?

Especially the one where you say that the government should ban the parents of children who disagree with you from state education.

SmileEachDay · 24/07/2019 13:55

that’s bollocks?
Which bit, hashtag? 🙂

cavalier · 24/07/2019 13:55

I was a lunchtime supervisor years ago
I wouldn’t be a teacher for all the tea in China
Hard work just asking them to get into line
lol
And the parents these days OMG ... how does any teacher explain that “ their little darling “ needs to behave and sit still and do as they are asked when it comes to learning ... I despair
And as for taking them out for pre term holidays
They just don’t understand the disruption they cause because they are so selfish
I have total respect for most teachers ... especially this day and age

herculepoirot2 · 24/07/2019 13:56

Ricky44

I am a SAHM.

No, then?

But no, I do not think parents who disagree with me should lose the right to have their children educated by the State. I think parents who repeatedly harass, abuse and undermine teachers should. I think parents should sign an agreement that outlines their responsibility to work with the people educating their children and behave in a reasonable fashion, and if they can’t do that, yes, they should forfeit their child’s place.
