To think newborn babies are weird

I’ve got a 6 month boy and much prefer him now.

When he was born the up all night thing I wasn’t prepared for, then the freaky startle reflex.

I’ve got videos of him with his arms waving everywhere and cross eyes and I get a bit weirded out.

As soon as he started smiling and the reflex went he seemed a lot less scary.

Am I weird ?

Oh I LOVE the newborn bit!

MyNameIsRachel · 23/07/2019 19:30

See everyone says that! What even with the Flicky arms and no smiles ?

Yanbu. It's like having an odd little alien pet.

LoisLittsLover · 23/07/2019 19:34

The cross eyed look is so weird!!

Passthecherrycoke · 23/07/2019 19:34

I hate the startle reflex too, it’s a bit spooky. Also the newborn rage. Still love it though

DefConOne · 23/07/2019 19:34

YANBU. My first had jaundice and lost about 10% of her birth weight. She looked like ET or an ancient tortoise. Proper cute and gorgeous by 6 months though.

MyNameIsRachel · 23/07/2019 19:36

I think for me the feelings I got while he was a newborn were wierd too, when I heard him move in the basket I would get these electric shock feelings that have me a headache, I think he used to sleep overnight early ish but the reflex kept me awake not him

The feelings were a proper pain

I thought dd was the most beautiful thing I e ever seen and when I look back now she looks like a balder, weirder version of her dad.

I hate the newborn/baby phase. Dd is 2.6 now and I honestly love it. She’s such a character, even the tantrums are amusing rather than annoying. I should have had my babies close together because now I know there is no way I can do baby phase again.

MyNameIsRachel · 23/07/2019 19:37

As in not pain in the arse but pain like I was being electrocuted

Grin

I don't like newborn babies - look like aliens. My LO was a freaky smiling alien.

From about 3 months onwards they are sooo cute.

Think you’ll enjoy this OP!

Passthecherrycoke · 23/07/2019 19:41

I remember with my first telling people “my baby is so beautiful she has hairy ears!”

MyNameIsRachel · 23/07/2019 19:42

@AngeloMysterioso excellent !

I miss the little newborn stage 😥😥

Mammalian · 23/07/2019 19:43

odd little alien pet hahaha

user1480880826 · 23/07/2019 19:45

I didn’t like the newborn baby stage. No sleep and very little reward.

lifeinthedeep · 23/07/2019 19:46

I loved the newborn stage! Although, ds started smiling at 4 weeks so it wasn’t such a bad wait.

He’s 7 months now and adorable but very hard work and has started tantruming (mostly over wanting to eat my chocolates). I found him easier as a newborn, he was very relaxed. Nevertheless, I think this is my favourite age so far.

MyNameIsRachel · 23/07/2019 19:47

I also had a reflux baby after a NICU stay, he would eat every 2 hours and need to be held upright for 1 hour so I never went anyway for 2 months.

I think maybe the whole experience was weird

They are weird. The grunting at night made it hard to sleep. Then dd went through a period of drawing her legs up to her stomach and then crashing her feet back down all while asleep. Used to keep me up at night

MyNameIsRachel · 23/07/2019 19:57

The GRUNTING AND SNORTING

WTAF

So true, part of keeping me up all night

They are cute, but also quite odd, yes!

catcatcatgoose · 23/07/2019 19:59

I'm in the newborn stage now and I'm frankly a nervous wreck 🙈 I google everything to check it's normal. I check he's breathing constantly. He smiles a lot but it's clearly wind even though I try to convince myself it's not!

Also he really strains and struggles to poop (but isn't constipated I don't think as he poops lots) and I find that 😱😱😩😩😳😳

MyNameIsRachel · 23/07/2019 20:00

@catcatcatgoose aww, he will be 6 months before you know it I promise

I'm beginning to think I lucked out because my son looked great from birth.

I don't think I'm just biased, he was honestly good looking from tge start. Quite boring as a newborn though. He's much more interesting now that he's 9months.

Sandybval · 23/07/2019 20:01

At the time I HATED the newborn stage, I found everything weird but now I look back at photos fondly. I much prefer now though, although yes to the noisy nights- not sure how they make so much noise (not crying) when their bodies are still so small! The startle reflex was cute though to be honest, a bit dramatic mind.
