Oops.........

Me Neither.

Roussette · 29/07/2019 14:49

Apparently Ratcliffe has very little experience for this role. And only when he pushed in the Mueller hearing did Trump notice him. What a surprise.

AcrossthePond55 · 29/07/2019 15:49

Ratcliffe will have to be confirmed by the Senate. But the Senate has a GOP majority so.......

At any rate, IF he's confirmed then Scrotus will now have the DoJ (Barr), the SCOTUS (Kavanaugh), and the NSA in his back pocket. This, in effect, gives him a 'bombproof' as far as Russian interference and his collusion with it, both past and future. The NSA won't investigate it, the DoJ won't prosecute it, and the SCOTUS won't uphold any court cases stopping it.

Hostile takeover by stealth if ever there was one.

cozietoesie · 29/07/2019 16:39

45 would screw it up somehow.

Lweji · 29/07/2019 16:50

Ratcliffe will have to be confirmed by the Senate. But the Senate has a GOP majority so.......

They confirmed "Grizzly Bears" DeVos, so anyone will do.

But, yes, it's worrying, although expected, that he's filling the top jobs with shameless Trumpettes. At least until the next elections, which he can't afford to lose. Hmm

AcrossthePond55 · 29/07/2019 17:05

At least until the next elections, which he can't afford to lose

Neither can we, right Lweji?

DH says he's spoken to a few Trumpsters who are now saying that they 'won't vote for him again'. But what does that mean exactly? That they won't vote for him in the primary hoping to get another candidate in the general election? But will they vote for a Democrat or simply abstain from voting at all in the GE rather than vote for him? Or will they go ahead and vote for Scrotus in the GE rather than risk a Dem president? To be fair, lots of Dems voted for Hillary not because they really supported her, but because they didn't want Scrotus to win.

We're now 463 (very long) days until the GE. Oh Time, pass swiftly in thy flight! And I'm of an age where the only thing I want to do is stop the clock!!!!

Lweji · 29/07/2019 17:17

Neither can we, right Lweji?

Definitely not. And it won't be pretty.

lionheart · 29/07/2019 17:44

Not now his whole thiefdom fiefdom, along with his freedom are on the line.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 29/07/2019 18:47

Has an ex-President of the United States ever been imprisoned?

Spiro Agnew was done while he was vice-President and had to resign, but I can't think of any ex-President; Nixon got a pardon. Help?

AcrossthePond55 · 29/07/2019 18:58

No president has ever served jail time. US Grant was cited for speeding (in his carriage!) during his term and GW Bush had a dui prior to his term. But that's it.

Agnew served no jail time for any of his various crimes. He always managed to get a 'deal'. Like most rich people do.

Lweji · 29/07/2019 20:07

Meanwhile, in Mother Russia, being opposition leader is still a suicide mission.

At least he hasn't found himself falling out of a window or stuck in a submarine.

Hmmm.

Not exactly "down there with them", I don't think.

'Trump was in New York, on Fifth Avenue in Trump Tower, where he works and lives, and he watched first on TV and then out his windows, staring four miles south at the black smoke in the blue sky.

'“We saw it,” said George Ross, a longtime attorney for Trump and an executive vice president of the Trump Organization. “We saw it out the window. I was sitting in his office.” Ross described the mood in the office as “unbelief.”'

lionheart · 29/07/2019 22:07

Wasn't he bragging about how his tower was the tallest after that morning?

cozietoesie · 29/07/2019 22:51

Remind me, Across. Under the 'new rules' can a candidate still nominate a running mate who isn't otherwise 'on the ticket'?

AcrossthePond55 · 30/07/2019 00:02

Technically, the VP candidate is chosen by the party's nominating committee & voted on, but it's highly unusual for them not to take the presidential nominee's choice very seriously. Generally speaking, the nominee places the name of his/her preferred running mate before the committee and the committee then goes through the 'formality' of nominating that person then voting them in as the VP nominee. So in essence, the presidential candidate chooses his own running mate.

It's been this way as long as I can remember.

I highly doubt that Scrotus chose Pence. In fact, he probably didn't know Pence from Adam! I have a feeling that the nominating committee was probably horrified by Scrotus' list of his preferred candidates. No idea who they might have been, probably his biggest donors!

cozietoesie · 30/07/2019 00:14

I'll change my mind then..........

lionheart · 30/07/2019 01:17

It would be interesting to see Trump's list.

I wonder how many from the list were given WH positions, how many are still with Trump and how many are in jail? *

*excluding Ivanka of course.

cozietoesie · 30/07/2019 01:37

Just think to yourself, who would Ms Harris be happy to stump for?Grin

lionheart · 30/07/2019 02:11

Huh.

shareblue.com/trump-campaign-america-first-speech-draft-foreign-government-approval/

'Documents released by the House Oversight Committee on Monday reveal that the Trump campaign submitted a speech to a foreign government for approval and additions. The subject of the speech was "America First."

Emails and text uncovered by the committee show that investor and Trump adviser Thomas Barrack provided an advance copy of Trump's planned speech to an associate in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).'

Roussette · 30/07/2019 07:40

Lion that's shocking.. he needs the UAE's approval for what he's going to say? Shock

Four straight days of Trump attacking Elijah Cummings, even up till 4 hours ago. Nothing to do with the fact that Cummings is on the Oversight Committee and is investigating Ivanka and that wet lettuce Jared. They have been using private emails and WhatsApp for official business.
