And away we gooo.......!!!!!

AcrossthePond55 · 24/07/2019 13:51

Well, based on Mueller's opening statement, this is going to be a big nothing-burger.

He's not going to say anything we don't already to know. And it appears he's going to 'conform' to the DoJ letter that was sent the other day.

Roussette · 24/07/2019 14:17

The Republicans are doing their level best to trip him up, catch him out, talk over him, not give him a chance to talk, yelling at him and badgering him.

Painful to watch. And very rude.

The good bit of this is... it nicely wastes the 5 minutes questioning time of the Republicans.
Apparently Mueller has a slight hearing problem which they are not taking into account at all

Agree. The Repugs are using this time to conduct a disinformation campaign. And the Dems are missing chances to ask pointed questions as to whether or not Mueller meant for Congress to indict when he said in the report it 'was for others to determine'.

lionheart · 24/07/2019 15:52

Nadler is good.

lionheart · 24/07/2019 15:55

Mueller:

"Over the course of my career, I've seen a number of challenges to our democracy. The Russian govt's effort to interfere in our election is among the most serious. As I said on May 29, this deserves the attention of every American".

Roussette · 24/07/2019 15:59

Rep Buck: "Could you charge the president with a crime after he left office?"

Mueller: "Yes."

Buck: "You believe that you could charge the president of the United States with obstruction of justice after he left office?"

Mueller: "Yes."

And Trump is tweeting Fox News. What a surprise

Obstruction, Cohen and witness tampering.

Roussette · 24/07/2019 16:17

AFAIC (and I don't understand everything) the one thing that is clear... Mueller makes it clear the only reason Trump has not been charges is because he's a sitting President.

He's never gonna leave is he?

He needs the WH to stay out of jail.

Roussette · 24/07/2019 16:42

Mueller getting a little fired up by the suggestion that the investigation was biased.

lionheart · 24/07/2019 16:51

“We strove to hire those individuals that could do the job. I have been in this business for almost 25 years. And in those 25 years I have not had occassion, once, to ask somebody about their political affiliation. It is not done”. Mueller.

AcrossthePond55 · 24/07/2019 17:40

My takeaway is that Mueller didn't want to say, or be interpreted as saying, anything that was not in the report, period. He wasn't going to opine, judge, explain, nor extrapolate.

The Dems wanted to get him to say that impeachment should be on the table. They also wanted him to take things stated in the report a step further and character them as criminal.

The Repugs wanted him to say that Scrotus was was not indicted because he was 'cleared' of any wrongdoing. The Repugs also wanted to push the narrative that the team Mueller put together were all Democrats and all wanted Scrotus out. In other words, that they had an 'agenda'.

Neither side got what they wanted. But both sides will be able to get 'something' out of what he said.

AcrossthePond55 · 24/07/2019 17:45

"I have not had occassion, once, to ask somebody about their political affiliation. It is not done”. Mueller.

It is not only 'not done', it is expressly forbidden by federal law. The Hatch Act absolutely forbids any 'partisan politics' by any federal employee, especially management and persons in a position of power (hiring/firing). Asking any employee about their political 'leanings' would leave the official open to disciplinary action up to and including removal. This would be doubly true in the case of hiring or promotion.

Lweji · 24/07/2019 17:56

Could is very different from would and even more from should.
Mueller remains neutral as ever.

cozietoesie · 24/07/2019 20:08

I'm not seeing (au Sun Tzu) any golden road for 45 to take..

cozietoesie · 24/07/2019 21:39

It would make sense but it might mean a Dem would have to compromise - I'm not sure they're prepared to...........

lionheart · 24/07/2019 23:17

Pelosi:

"My position has always been: whatever decision we make in that regard would have to be done with our strongest possible hand, and we still have some outstanding matters in the courts."

No surprise at Nunes' 'source material'. 🙄

cozietoesie · 25/07/2019 01:51

Sorry, Lion. I reckon there's some forked tongue there..........
