After all, someone who has actually read the Meditations must be worth concerning yourself about.....

So he's blaming the media for these atrocious shootings. Well... he's nowhere else to go with this has he?
His tweet...
'The Media has a big responsibility to life and safety in our Country. Fake News has contributed greatly to the anger and rage that has built up over many years. News coverage has got to start being fair, balanced and unbiased, or these terrible problems will only get worse!'

So the Asshole in Chief now says he'll 'support' stricter gun control legislation.......as long as they tie it to immigration reform. Which I assume means the border wall. Just more proof that he doesn't give a shit. This is just his way of trying to get what he wants and being able to blame the Dems for 'supporting terrorism' if he doesn't.
Fucker!

cozietoesie · 05/08/2019 14:34

How shall they tie it to immigration 'reform'?

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 05/08/2019 15:14

I'd been hoping that 8chan might have at least slight problems this week, but alas no.

They'll append the bills to each other. Not that they'll link the causes together, just that a vote on one is a vote on the other.

He's making a statement now. You can tell he didn't write it himself. He uses a certain 'tone of voice' when delivering speeches he doesn't mean. Almost as if he's trying to signal his base.

Lweji · 05/08/2019 15:22

Sadly, there will always be a host available. More or less openly. Sad

cozietoesie · 05/08/2019 15:30

Thanks Across. So where does that leave Mitch?

AcrossthePond55 · 05/08/2019 15:30

Absolutely nothing, NOTHING, about new gun control laws. In fact, it was not only more of the 'guns don't kill people, people kill people' bullshit, it was pretty much blaming mental illness for the whole thing.

The points I picked up on:
Violent video games
Mental Health (not better treatment, just "turn 'em in")
Death Penalty (accelerating justice)
Violence on the internet

I will say it's the (relatively speaking) 'best' statement of this kind he's given as far as the actual message. But that's obvsly because he stuck to the script and avoided adding too many adjectives. He also said we need to condemn 'racism, bigotry, and white supremacy'. That's the first time he's EVER directly condemned any of the three.

But as I mentioned above, it was all delivered in that monotone, no real emotion at all. Much different from the speeches he usually gives, full of fire and rhetoric. Don't tell me that his base doesn't pick up on the difference!

ABC news states that McConnell's office has no comment on the speech.

PerkingFaintly · 05/08/2019 15:52

His "hostage video" voice?

AcrossthePond55 · 05/08/2019 16:11

Yes! That's exactly it Perking! The 'against my will' voice!!

At least he's not trying to get the GOP legislators add a rider to the background check bill passed by the House to add immigration reform. At least, we haven't heard that yet, but who knows what's going on behind the scenes. He did try that once before and was soundly defeated by the Dems. The background check bill has been languishing in the Senate as Yertle the Turtle AKA "Moscow Mitch" refuses to allow a vote on it.

For those who may have a question about adding riders since I'm not sure this is a 'thing' in Parliament:

"In legislative procedure, a rider is an additional provision added to a bill or other measure under the consideration by a legislature, having little connection with the subject matter of the bill. Riders are usually created as a tactic to pass a controversial provision that would not pass as its own bill" (Wiki)

To the best of my recollection, if the Senate GOP does add the rider, it has to go back to the House to be re-voted on.

cozietoesie · 05/08/2019 16:42

I guess that (last bit) should be checked.

cozietoesie · 05/08/2019 16:46

Has anyone raised Mitch's NRA funding?

Whosorrynow · 05/08/2019 17:25

it's all delivered in his singsong mocking drawl, his weird intonations, I cannot bear to hear him

AcrossthePond55 · 05/08/2019 17:42

DH asked me to switch off the news cozie so I don't know what reactions have come in yet from Moscow Mitch and/or other Legislators. At least, no one has broken in to regular programming to report any. But he's leaving in a bit for camping so I'll probably switch back to MSNBC once he's gone to 'catch up'. DH has asked that we not 'do' 24/7 coverage 'every time that asshole farts crosswise' as it really does raise his blood pressure. He watches Rachel & reads WaPo & other online papers to keep informed. But just seeing Scrotus on TV infuriates him. Figuratively that is, he hasn't yet thrown a shoe through the TV Grin

AcrossthePond55 · 05/08/2019 18:30

As far as I can tell no response from the GOP side of things. Numerous Dem Legislators are calling for Moscow Mitch to cancel/postpone the normal August recess in order for the Senate to stay in session to pass meaningful gun control legislation.

cozietoesie · 05/08/2019 18:31

'Tafc'- I think we'd get on.

The video games gambit is a chess move isn't it?

Video games!
We can't restrict games.
Why not?
Free speech.
What protects free speech?
The First Amendment.
Fine, then leave the Second Amendment alone too.

AcrossthePond55 · 05/08/2019 19:45

Good on McCollister for speaking out. But he's a state legislator so doesn't really have to fear the wrath of Moscow Mitch or Scrotus.

The 'big boys' (and girls) in Wash DC are eerily silent

I hope Rachel's back tonight.
