Will he explain El Stupido's reasoning?

cozietoesie · 01/08/2019 20:56

I use that word 'loosely' of course.

A fascinating debate last night. I still have a feeling that Democrats other than Biden are positioning themselves way too far to the left. They all, other than Biden, seem to be completely disassociating themselves with Obama which is a bizarre move considering how popular Obama was (and I assume still is?). Why are they doing this - how can it help to disassociate themselves from such a popular politician? Even the democrat commentators afterwards seemed stunned by this approach. I guess the issue is that if Biden is the front-runner they all have to go after Obama because Biden and Obama are kind of one and the same?

Joe Biden did well. A bit faulting and lost his way a few times, but he seemed rather more energised than the previous debate. Looks like he’s still polling way ahead and his viewpoints seem more mainstream which surely should be a clarion call to the Dems to stop swinging so far left.

Kamala Harris was absolutely hung, drawn and quartered by Tulsi Gabbard, to loud cheers from the audience. I think she’s done.

cozietoesie · 01/08/2019 22:43

I suspect that she's not the one to watch. Wink

Nothing to see here, folks!

Trump says he has "no problem" with North Korea testing missiles because they are just "short-range missiles" that are "very standard."

TheClaws · 02/08/2019 00:06

I’ll put myself up as an example of how Australia’s healthcare works. I had an accident recently - I tripped on a rug - and broke my top front teeth and fractured my right hand. I didn’t have to pay for the emergency visit, the X-ray, or strapping for my hand. I have private health insurance with dental, so my double root canal is partially covered. I think it’s 50%. I bloody hope so anyway.

I know we've always known it, but Trump is an absolutely disgusting human being.

How can the GOP think he's right in the head when he tweets like this?

Donald J. Trump
@realDonaldTrump
Really bad news! The Baltimore house of Elijah Cummings was robbed. Too bad!

Petty, petty, petty.

And potentially dangerous too.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 02/08/2019 16:28

Heh! The Baltimore Sun (which I can't look at because I am in Europe, but you could google) apparently says that "U.S. Rep. Elijah Cummings provided details Friday of a break-in at his Baltimore home last weekend, saying he scared the intruder away by yelling."

lionheart · 02/08/2019 17:54

This is good. Smile

time.com/5642310/ilhan-omar-she-went-back-with-me/

'Congresswoman Ilhan Omar responded Thursday to “send her back” chants that erupted at one of President Donald Trump’s rallies by posting a photo of herself and Speaker Nancy Pelosi on a visit to Africa.

“They said ‘send her back’ but Speaker [Pelosi] didn’t just make arrangement to send me back, she went back with me,” Omar wrote in her Instagram and Twitter posts.'

But that’s what Trump does - he trolls people and he’s incredibly good at it. He has a particular ability to insert himself into a conversation just as it slows down and fire it up again, speaking to his base in a way they love and drawing attention to issues that otherwise might just fade out in the next news cycle. And the media seems to fall for it again and again.

I mean don’t get me wrong, I think the guy is an absolute ass, but we’re 3 years in - surely by this point this kind of thing should be water off a duck’s back?

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 02/08/2019 18:44

If true, this is .... weird. From lionheart's atlanticcom link: “There are more men named Jim in the House than Republican women running for reelection.”

There are 21 Republican and 106 Democrat female representatives in the House, and seven men called Jim, as far as I can make out. But I don't know how many of the female Republican representatives would have to run for reelection if the wanted to retain their seats. Some must not have to in 2020.

Anniegetyourgun · 02/08/2019 19:27

But that’s what Trump does - he trolls people and he’s incredibly good at it.

He's the very best at being bad.

lionheart · 02/08/2019 19:36

John Ratcliffe has dropped out.

PerkingFaintly · 02/08/2019 20:08

45 is claiming he's the one who decided against John Ratcliffe, but we've seen him lie like that plenty of times and his "reasons", aren't.

So it looks like Ratcliffe withdrew of his own accord.

Might be true that it's come as a surprise to him that his CV would be publicly examined. Or it might be that he has more nasty stuff lurking that he knows about and the public doesn't (yet).

PerkingFaintly · 02/08/2019 20:10

Meanwhile. Interesting that 45 has finally gone ahead with the new sanctions. After checking in with Vlad, obvs.

Skripal case: US slaps new sanctions on Russia
www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-49210340

US President Donald Trump has imposed new sanctions against Russia over the poisoning of a former Russian spy and his daughter in the UK in March 2018.

US banks are now banned from providing loans to Russia, and Washington will also be opposing any loan extension to Moscow by international institutions.
[...]
In recent months, the US Congress has been pressing President Trump to act again, saying that the 90-day deadline had long expired.

The sanctions came a day after Mr Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin had a phone conversation.

PerkingFaintly · 02/08/2019 20:38

Jillyhilly, you've put it very well.

AcrossthePond55 · 02/08/2019 21:21

Here's the tweet. Actually 2 tweets but I took the liberty of rearranging them for ease of reading:

Donald J. Trump
@realDonaldTrump
Our great Republican Congressman John Ratcliffe is being treated very unfairly by the LameStream Media. Rather than going through months of slander and libel, I explained to John how miserable it would be for him and his family to deal with these people....

....John has therefore decided to stay in Congress where he has done such an outstanding job representing the people of Texas, and our Country. I will be announcing my nomination for DNI shortly.

Sure, Scrotus, sure. Chances are the truth is that someone actually took a look at this idiot and told you that he had a snowball's chance in hell of being confirmed.

AcrossthePond55 · 02/08/2019 21:22

Weird bolding, but you get the drift.

Roussette · 02/08/2019 21:35

So it looks like Ratcliffe withdrew of his own accord

Oh yes he did, He tweeted that.

OP posts:
AcrossthePond55 · 02/08/2019 21:38

That's what they're going to put about Roussette. But Scrotus has had so many of his nominees have to withdraw after scrutiny that I'm sure that 'of his own accord' is only half the story.
