AIBU Claire's ears piercing

cindersrella · 22/07/2019 18:28

So I have just been to Claire to get my children's ears pierced (they wanted them done) my older daughter (9) begged and begged to have them done, I told her yes..
So the earring were got out put in the gun and she went into melt down.

To cut a long story short after encouragement from one assistant who was lovely to the manager who had had enough for the day (her attitude was shit once my daughter had started to get itchy feet) she didn't have them done. However I have still had to pay for them as they came out of the pack and were no longer sterile

So I have basically just paid £75 for one pair of ears to be pierced with earrings, a pair of earrings which are possibly never going to be worn and some solution.

AIBU to feel really pissed off at been charge £37.50 for some 9ct gold earrings ?

Those earrings are £2 on eBay in the packaging

You’ve been robbed!

Jewellers charge less!

I’d complain

GreenTulips · 22/07/2019 18:31

For future information - DD pays £25 for piercings at a tattoo studio, sometimes they have discounts (£10 off) and buy 6 get on feee deals etc

No way I’d pay £75, let alone £37.50

akmum18 · 22/07/2019 18:31

Claire’s are over priced and the worst place to go for piercings, I know it means nothing now but when/if your daughter decides she wants them done then take her to a proper piercing shop they’re expierienced and hygienic, as for the earrings stick them on eBay someone will buy them

NoBaggyPants · 22/07/2019 18:33

They're overpriced, but you chose to pay that amount so you've no complaint.

TheBrockmans · 22/07/2019 18:34

Would you want your dc's ears to be pierced with non-sterile earings as that is what you are suggesting that they could use them for someone else, why should they lose because your dc changed their mind. Having said that you might have had a lucky escape as guns seem to be more associated with infection than needles. I would find a good tattoo parlour and go there next time.

Pinktinker · 22/07/2019 18:34

Jesus! I had my ears pierced at Claire’s years ago and it cost my Dad £20. How on Earth are they justifying charging that much these days? I don’t understand. It’s still around £20-25 in reputable body piercing shops too. That is absolutely ludicrous.

Delilah21D00LoT · 22/07/2019 18:34

Total rip off! Go to a tattoo studio/parlour. Professional and much cheaper.

BuffaloCauliflower · 22/07/2019 18:36

You’re unreasonably for going to an accessories shop to get a piercing, go to a proper piercers who knows what they’re doing. Piercing guns should be banned.

Grumpbum123 · 22/07/2019 18:37

Guns are so bad for ears and not sterile. Should have gone to a tattoo parlour and had it done with a sterile needle. Better recovery, titanium earring (hypoallergenic) and good aftercare advice

pinkyredrose · 22/07/2019 18:37

You were robbed! Any tattoo or piercing studios near you? They'd do it much cheaper and more hygenically.

Yourostar · 22/07/2019 18:37

9 year old with pierced ears is a bit yuk to my mind

SquirellTamer · 22/07/2019 18:39

I had my ears pierced at Claire's a couple of years back. Cost a bloody fortune and my ear got infected. Had to take the studs out and the holes promptly closed up. Had a piercing since at a tattooist with a needle and it healed up lovely.

Singlebutmarried · 22/07/2019 18:40

Second the piercing studio.

I’ve spoken to a few local ones in the last week as dD wants hers done and summer hols seems to be the best time for it.

KickingMyself · 22/07/2019 18:41

It’s not terribly clear but I think the OP means they cost £37.5 per person. So one dd got her ears pierced but the other had a meltdown but op still had to pay for the two sets of piercings

pigsDOfly · 22/07/2019 18:41

Agree you've been robbed.

Why go to places like Claires to have your child's ears pierced by someone who isn't properly trained with a gun that probably isn't completely sterile?

Go to a proper piercer and get it done by someone who knows what they're doing, won't use a gun, and hopefully won't rip you off.

Earrings can be sterilised over and over again. Just because they've been removed from the packet doesn't mean they can't be made sterile again.

I'd complain to their head office.

HollyGoLoudly1 · 22/07/2019 18:41

£37.50 for a gun piercing?! Jesus I knew Claire's had a reputation for being expensive but that is nuts. Second another poster - when she's ready go to a jeweller (or a tattoo parlour that offers piercings). It will be far cheaper and I dare say they will be more experienced.

Tinkety · 22/07/2019 18:42

Presumably you knew the price in advance & agreed to go ahead though? The rest is irrelevant.

Elphame · 22/07/2019 18:42

A decent professional piercer would charge you a fraction of that and use better jewellery.

Please keep a very close eye on your daughter's ears for the next couple of days. The jewellery posts they use are not always long enough and if her lobes start to swell they can engulf the butterfly backs. Use ice packs if this starts to happen and go for professional help sooner rather than later.

Are they still giving the advice to twiddle them to stop them sticking? If so this is very outdated now and the current recommendations are to rinse gently once or twice a day and then leave them alone

NabooThatsWho · 22/07/2019 18:43

Claire’s is crap and over-priced. Apparently they are going to start doing nose piercings with guns Angry

Go to a proper piercing place and get any piercings done with a needle!

cindersrella · 22/07/2019 18:44

I wouldn't want anyone else to have the earrings in of course not as they are no longer sterile...

Are Claire's not professional's in ear piercing? I am sure they wouldn't be doing it if they wasn't?

I feel robbed... but I did know the prices and it was my choice...

I just assumed I wouldn't get charged as much because she didn't have them done.

Just disappointed I was drawn into the whole Claire thing and fristrated with myself

Would you be happy to be sold earrings that had been opened and handled?

codenameduchess · 22/07/2019 18:44

Yabu for going to Claire's accessories for piercing. They have a very small amount of training and let any idiot use the gun, it's not sterile and they shouldn't be allowed to do it. It's a joke and I don't why anyone is still going there.

Take your daughter to a tattoo/piercing shop and they'll be so much better with her, the needles are gentler than the gun and the piercer will have actual training, sterile equipment and be patient. It's also a lot cheaper!

cindersrella · 22/07/2019 18:45

It’s not terribly clear but I think the OP means they cost £37.5 per person. So one dd got her ears pierced but the other had a meltdown but op still had to pay for the two sets of piercings

This is exactly it .

LucyAutumn · 22/07/2019 18:46

Yabu to have taken your daughter to Claire's. These people are retail assistants with a piercing gun, not professional piercers. Their jewellery is also cheap fashion jewellery with too much nickel.

Next time please go to a professional Confused

HeavenlyEyes · 22/07/2019 18:47

Piercing with a gun is a huge no no - and the training Claire's staff undergo is so awful. Practice on teddies I heard?
