All inclusive holiday irritations....

CupoTeap · 22/07/2019 16:04

On holiday and in the restaurant......there is a huge block of butter put out each session with a knife to help yourself with.

I am getting more and more irritated by the people who insist on scraping a bit of butter off with this knife and then back to the butter to repeat before putting the knife down.

JUST PUT SOME ON YOUR PLATE.

Anything else I should be looking out for to annoy me GrinGrinGrin

(I'm actually having a fab time and am very relaxed 😎)

Idiots who use the same serving spoon - or spatula or whatever - in 3 or 4 different dishes!

Use the allocated serving cutlery with the right dish, how hard can it be?!?

If anyone is allergic to something, you have just contaminated half the buffet. I can think of a lot other words than "idiots" to describe these entitled selfish CF Angry

When you have use the butter knife on your bread, you have made it impossible and dangerous to eat for any coeliac.. well, done, happy now? Twats.

ForalltheSaints · 22/07/2019 16:57

Other people.

MadamePompadour · 22/07/2019 17:00

The birds sitting on top of the pile of crossiants pecking at them in the restaurant.

Charm23 · 22/07/2019 17:00

I hate seeing people walk away with nothing but beige food. There are dozens of interesting dishes but no, they just choose a plate of chips AND croquet potatoes.

VirginiaCreeper · 22/07/2019 17:01

If you go for the Paella at an AI buffet don't expect there to be any prawns or fish left in it because someone will have picked them out.

Charm23 · 22/07/2019 17:01

Croquette*

Benjispruce · 22/07/2019 17:01

Did it once, to experience it. Never again. Don’t eat and drink enough to make it good value. I love self catering, getting up when I want, eating what I want .

Phimma · 22/07/2019 17:02

I hate to see people pile their plates high, then leave half of it.

May I add I hate people who put towels on sun beds at 6 am even worse are those who then don't use the sun bed till lunchtime.

thentherewascakes · 22/07/2019 17:03

More minor irritant: people who pile their plates up, and leave more than half. WHY?

Take a little bit if you are not sure you will like it, and go back for 2nd, or 4th, or 6th if you must. Don't waste so much food, it's so annoying. I sometimes wish there was a charge for non-empty plates.

Benjispruce · 22/07/2019 17:03

I’m sure some AIs are better but I felt like I was in a canteen, not a restaurant.

thentherewascakes · 22/07/2019 17:04

I've seen some beautiful and surprisingly good AI buffets, so I wouldn't knock them all out, but .. people. Angry

FuzzyPuffling · 22/07/2019 17:05

Oh TheStarChild I am faintly heartened it wasn't just us.

Sallycinammonbangsthedruminthe · 22/07/2019 17:06

Sat here about to book an AI for october and checking full board options instead! I don;t think I could cope!!

CurlyhairedAssassin · 22/07/2019 17:06

Oh dear, I shouldn’t have clicked on this thread. Going AI for the first time later This week and already wondering why we just didn’t go self-catering like we usually do.

I think all the people will be the worst thing for me. I like my own space and routine. Reading all this is bringing back memories from going HB when I was a kid. Yes to the all eating separately because someone has always got up and gone to get more food/next course.

In fact this thread is just making me anxious about going away. There is literally a whole other thread about that going on at the moment Grin

HeadintheiClouds · 22/07/2019 17:08

Communal butter sounds grim

HeadintheiClouds · 22/07/2019 17:09

Anything that has complete strangers dipping in and out of a sharing pot is best avoided.

Peakypolly · 22/07/2019 17:11

You have to queue to get your food? Is that an AI thing?
Only in some AI’s. I choose to holiday in hotels where there is table service (and wines by the bottle!), although some have a buffet as an alternative choice.

CollaterlyS1sters · 22/07/2019 17:11

Gruesome beyond. I would never go on an all-inclusive holiday. Breakfast included is bad enough - who wants to start their day watching sour-faced families from around the world shovelling bread into their mouths? But the idea of an entire resort full of people who are eating breakfast, lunch, AND dinner there, and trying to 'get their money's worth' - bleurgh. Buffets are fucking rank anyway.

MrsGrammaticus · 22/07/2019 17:13

The butter things not that bad. What I can't stand are food pickers.....people that have to 'try before they buy' urggh. Also kids that stick a finger in the puddings and take a sneaky lick.....little girls tend to do it! 😁

littlequestion · 22/07/2019 17:17

People have food that doesn’t go together! E.g some spaghetti, with tomato sauce, egg fried rice, Sweet and sour chicken, sardines, Roast potato’s, and salad- all on the same plate! (Yes lady in Tenerife in 2018 I’m talking about you!)🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯

And that's just for breakfast!

DS1 does this. It has me in hysterics. DS2 inspects everything closely and then comes back with pasta, pizza , chips and a roll. And then gets an apple when I give him a Look.

I LOVE an AI

MrsGrammaticus · 22/07/2019 17:17

People that start suddenly reversing without looking behind when you've got a glass in your hand. Mature ladies with blue rinses do this a lot IME.
Toast abandonners - people that stick toast in the industrial toaster then never return.
Worst thing I've ever seen was a fag end stubbed out in an egg yolk 🤢

BubblesBubbly · 22/07/2019 17:17

I am in complete agreement with @CollaterlyS1sters

I started a thread the other day asking what an AI is like as PIL want us to go on one with them next yr.

After reading this thread my fears have been realised.

I will not be going with them

TheStarChild · 22/07/2019 17:18

@FuzzyPuffling was it Egypt by any chance? Never seen anything quite like it to be honest.

UrsulaPandress · 22/07/2019 17:19

Done one in Sardinia and one in Cuba. Both had speciality restaurants for a few nights. But the buffets became scarier and scarier. Particularly in Cuba. The flies. The birds.

I ended up eating only freshly cooked omelet or slicing the bread to take a piece from the middle. And the freshly cooked bananas.

The 'free' booze is always very poor.

LadyRannaldini · 22/07/2019 17:19

Watching my children choose nuggets and chips from an international buffet with a million choices
Watching my children choose chow mein and sweet and sour sauce in SPAIN when there were sardines and beautiful panfuls of paellas on offer

Only done AI once, never again, but I loved people like your children, and the adults, it meant that there were no queues at the other service stations!
One memorable woman was complaining about the cold tomato soup, didn't have the heart to mention gazpacho!
