To wander what to put in party bags

I have 9/10 kids to make up bags for. It's my daughters 1st birthday and the children will consist of 9.5month old, couple of 1 year olds, a 3 year old, 2 5 year olds and a 7 year old.

Any ideas. I am putting a mini colin the caterpillar cakes in them but what else!? I am absolutely clueless and don't want to fill them up with crap.

I want a party bag from @FadedRed Blush

Tallgreenbottle · 22/07/2019 21:05

We got the wooden figurine paint kits (the floppy zoo animals where you push the base and they collapse) from Wilkos and a colouring book/pack of crayons. That would cover all ages too tbh ☺️

Something that won't end up in landfill. You will be doing them a greater service by saving the planet for their adulthood.

totally agree. Think even small kids recognise plastic tat as plastic tat.

Cake only and maybe a sharing bag of choc. Set a trend!

I put novelty stick on moustaches in the bags for my DDs first bday party. They went down a storm (for the parents!)... Caveat: do not leave baby unattended with moustache...

CharlesLeeRay · 22/07/2019 21:52

@CheerfulMuddler I'm not giving any single use plastic in them? The bags are paper.

Yes, but you're contributing to the assumption that you have to do party bags for a one-year-old's party. Everyone who comes to your party will go away thinking "I must do party bags! It's the done thing!" And they'll probably put plastic in theirs, and everyone who goes to their party will think the same thing and and and.
Also, tat made of paper and wood have a carbon footprint too.
Don't get me wrong, I do party bags for DS too. (Usually books). But not until he was three and knew what they were. I've never been to a one-year-old's party with party bags.

CheerfulMuddler · 22/07/2019 22:11

And if I was braver about my environmental principles, I wouldn't.

CheerfulMuddler · 22/07/2019 22:16

I love the idea of elaborate elegant wood-and-paper party bags filled with seed bombs and home-made cake and other wanky environmental nonsense. I have to give myself a massive talking-to and remind myself that every time you up the stakes, you are upping the expected carbon cost of everyone else's party. I wish I was brave enough not to bother, but I'm not, so kids at DS's parties get a book people book AND THAT IS IT. It is plenty. They are pleased. It is cheap and if you pick decent books and let them choose which one they want, it does not go into landfill until it has been read and loved.

CharlesLeeRay · 22/07/2019 23:29

@CheerfulMuddler each child, aside from 1, has had parties (including the 1 year olds) and each time party bags were given. The only child that hasn't will be 9.5 months old, she has an older brother who is 2.5, he has party bags so I guess all if ny guests already do!

CheerfulMuddler - very noble... but books from the book people do not get read and loved before they go to landfill in my experience - they get put on a shelf and put in the next charity bag to come through the door.

Cake, chocolate buttons, maybe stickers that sort of thing gets used or eaten. Books tend to point to "worthy" but don't kid yourself, most still get chucked away...

Sceptre86 · 25/07/2019 10:13

Board books, rubber ducks, bubbles and a slice of cake, raisins or mini chocolate buttons or a milky way. You can get cardboard party boxes that can be recycled.

CruCru · 25/07/2019 10:13

I must admit that party bags make my heart sink. We have stacks at home - I don’t want to chuck them because they aren’t mine but I don’t want them (or the stuff in them) in my life either.

OwlinaTree · 25/07/2019 10:17

A scratch card, 20 Benson and Hedges, and a can of Stella.

Grin I'd love that in a party bag!

OwlinaTree · 25/07/2019 10:19

Last ones we did were a sticker book, a few sweets, piece of cake, a little car, maybe a balloon?

Another one next week we have bought mini bucket and spades as it's a beach party, will add a few sweets and cake.

CharlesLeeRay · 25/07/2019 11:31

Okay, so I got - mini colouring books, mini colouring pencils, scratch art bookmarks and magnets, a jelly sweet, those mini kinder bars and a bouncy ball.

@Sceptre86 I like the party box idea, thanks :)
