To wander what to put in party bags

I have 9/10 kids to make up bags for. It's my daughters 1st birthday and the children will consist of 9.5month old, couple of 1 year olds, a 3 year old, 2 5 year olds and a 7 year old.

Any ideas. I am putting a mini colin the caterpillar cakes in them but what else!? I am absolutely clueless and don't want to fill them up with crap.

Book, bubbles, small chocolate bar/packet of sweets, piece of cake.

ysmaem · 22/07/2019 01:32

Small pot of play doh maybe? Bubbles? Books?

stucknoue · 22/07/2019 01:39

Just do books, buy from the book people or the works

PleaseGoogleIt · 22/07/2019 01:43

I've just had DD's 1st birthday party last week. Never even crossed my mind to do party bags at their age, we've been to others too recently and didn't get anything there.

I really wouldn't bother, they don't know. Even the 7 year will unlikely care and won't see the party the same way as classmate's parties.

Trebla · 22/07/2019 01:47

Something that won't end up in landfill. You will be doing them a greater service by saving the planet for their adulthood. Perhaps go to waterstones and buy them a book like hairy maclary or something from the Alfie series. Or a board book of the hungry Caterpillar

F2Feee · 22/07/2019 01:50

I think for a 1yo party its not necessary. You would usually do gift bags for things related to their age. So a little piece of cake is just perfectly fine. That's what I did. I put it in little cute boxes and it was fine..

WillowUfgood · 22/07/2019 02:05

For that age, we did a small rubber duck or similar bath toy (bought a small set from Amazon I think, just split it between bags), small board book and some bubbles.

This year (ages 3 - 4 now) we did Bubbles, stickers, temp tattoos and a small pack of Haribo.

CharlesLeeRay · 22/07/2019 02:56

@PleaseGoogleIt I have been to two recently and got party favours at both. Both 1st birthday party. Kind of feel obliged I guess!

This. PLEASE. My heart sinks at the bags full of tat. They really don't need it and it will end up in the rubbish dump. Get them a small book each.

Clockworkprincess · 22/07/2019 07:17

Usually we put a litttle bar of chocolate (think kinder buenos), piece of cake, tube of bubbles and some kind of plastic whistle 😂😂😂. This year we added a rubber duck on request of ds. We did do them for his first birthday but altered the bags according to age. The older kids had a few extra bits to the under twos. Am loving the idea of books tho - will borrow that idea for next birthday, the works do 3 for £5.00 snd are quite good books ☺️

BeanBag7 · 22/07/2019 07:32

I wouldn't bother, it's just another expense to add to the party and more plastic that hangs around the house for a few weeks and then goes in landfill.
I definitely wouldnt bother for the 1 year olds and 9 month old.

InDubiousBattle · 22/07/2019 08:17

Op, legs blind bags are little bags with a lego mini figure in, you can get them all over, super markets, toy shops etc.

user12398798768657 · 22/07/2019 08:21

I'm another one who says books. A book will be looked at and used. Everything else will just end up in landfill and you will be adding to that problem by buying it. Its easy to buy cheap books for about a pound on book people/the works and you can just pick an age appropriate one for each guest.

my2bundles · 22/07/2019 08:24

Cake and bubbles. Bubbles covers all tne age groups. I wouldn't go first books, every party mine has been to that contains a book ends in disappointment. Kids get excited about the sugar and tat.

DaddysGirl36 · 22/07/2019 08:27

For my son's first birthday, everyone got cookies & a book. Went down very well

I went a step further & got a book with my son's name as the main character. It was easier than I thought to find. They were £1 each so a bargain. Try The Works & Card Factory for something similar. Everyone commented how they loved the book & how it was a great idea

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 22/07/2019 08:29

Give them a book.

RubbingHimSourly · 22/07/2019 08:30

Get some of those parachute men or those flashing bouncy balls that make noises (( big ones )) they go down well with kids / adults of all ages

BeyondMyWits · 22/07/2019 08:42

No books here - we are big book buyers for current books and we have a massive collection of older books handed to us by family with older children (and we have a big family).

Cake, stickers and chocolate buttons. Stuff that gets used or consumed. Books would sit on a shelf til the next charity bag.

Summerlovin24 · 22/07/2019 20:02

Don’t bother. Give em a piece of cake or bag of sweets. Go to birthday party with a present, don’t need to receive one

KatewithaH · 22/07/2019 20:05

Whistles!

SospanFrangipan · 22/07/2019 20:19

I bought books from the poundshop, and added a little bag of Haribo instead of party bags for DSs 2nd birthday in April. Also did cupcakes in boxes for the kids to take home. Went down a treat. Makes a change from plastic crap that just ends up in landfill!

CharlesLeeRay · 22/07/2019 20:31

@SospanFrangipan I do want to consider the environment for sure.

Younger ones a book from the poundshop and cake. 5 and 7 year olds a blind bag and cake. Sweet cones and a slice of cake are the norm here but won’t be suitable for the really little ones

This!!! 10 x this!!

If you have to give something then a book, or a wooden dinosaur or wooden animal or something like that.... Please not just a load of plastic tat!

CheerfulMuddler · 22/07/2019 20:54

The best thing you can do to reduce single-user plastic is not give out a party bag. You don't need it for a one-year-old's birthday.
