To ask where I can get wide fit children’s size 3 shoes with ankle support?

My dd is 21 months and very small. She’s suffering developmental delays especially with her gross motor skills. She’s not walking yet. No diagnosis as yet.

Our physio has said she should have shoes/ boots with a firm sole and ankle support. Her feet measure a wide 3 (Clark’s 3G) but all shoes with firm soles/ ankle support seem to be size 4 upwards.

I’ve tried Clark’s, shu kids, foot locker and M & S. I feel a bit stupid but I don’t know where else to try. I’d rather not buy online I’d like her to try them on.

Any suggestions welcome.

I’m very old but are there still boys and girls ranges in children’s shoes? My DD had wide feet and the boys styles were wider.

Herocomplex · 21/07/2019 08:28

And I always ended up in Russell and Bromley. Obviously not the cheapest but as you say, options are limited.

allhalekale · 21/07/2019 08:28

There are still boys and girls ranges. We did look at boys shoes too. The problem was still nothing we need seems to come in smaller than a 4. Thank you for the reply / suggestion though Smile

Vertbaudet seem to have things, but as you say online shoes are very tricky.

Clarks have size 3 hightops don't they with velcro wrap straps? My DS had some.

Failing that OP DocMartens do their normal boot in size 3!

SleepymrsE · 21/07/2019 08:31

Have you tried Start-rite Shoes?

foodiemama26 · 21/07/2019 08:32

Geox and Startrite can be bought in 3’s. My DS has small but wide feet and I’ve searched high and low for supportive sandals for summer and I am really pleased with Geox. Also try walking brands/shops like Karrimor. Good luck!

Tallgreenbottle · 21/07/2019 08:32

Like these OP. These are a 3.5 wide on ebay

OMG well we can try Russell and Bromley I didn’t even consider they did kids shoes!! if they have what we need I would suck it up and get them though.
I guess I was hoping there was another Clark’s type shop I’d missed.

Kickers. My son has Hypermobility and needs support in his ankles, he’s worn kickers for as long as I can remember and his ankles get sore if he doesn’t wear something with support. He wears Nike Air Force 1 hi-tops for PE and I’m pretty sure they do those for babies too.

Startrite shoes are great.
Boys and girls... men and women have different shapes feet and so the last the shoes are made on are different and while you may get away with wearing mens shoes it's not always ideal (years of blisters on my heels from wearing mens work boots as no female ones were available until comparatively recently)
Startrite are great and available up to a H fitting in some styles...

kickers

An independent kids shoe store will be able to fit properly, rather than trying to guess or buying online yourself.

MarinaMarinara · 21/07/2019 08:57

We did Start-Rite shoes for my DD who was an early walker and had small wide feet. Lovely supportive shoes from an infant size 2 up. And you should be able to find stores to try them on in.

Shantotto · 21/07/2019 09:15

Bobux are nice and wide. Really lovely wee boots too.

Littlemissdaredevil · 21/07/2019 09:17

I had to take my DD to Russell and Bromley and buy some start rite as Clarks don’t seem to do walking shoes in under a 4 now (they only seem to do pre walkers).

allhalekale · 21/07/2019 16:25

Thank you for the suggestions. Start rite led me to John Lewis where we got boots on sale for £5.50!! Couldn’t believe it! Grin

Ricosta pepino boots are really good for small feet. If you’re anywhere near the south coast then French’s in Southampton is the most amazing shoe shop in the world. They would almost certainly get you the best fit

Herocomplex · 21/07/2019 16:55

allhalekale brilliant! I didn’t think of JL!

user1471530109 · 21/07/2019 17:00

Your dd sounds like my DD.

NHS physio measured her and provides her with shoes in v v small sizes. When she got to around a size 2-3, I purchased doc marten boots for her. They were gorgeous. Had little flowers on, plus they were in the sale. Think I got them from Schu. They fitted them.

Best shoes she had actually. It was about 4 years ago. She had loads of compliments. I think people thought I was showing off instead of buying Clarks.

PutOnYourDamnSocks · 21/07/2019 17:08

@Myshoesarenew I was just coming on to say French’s are a godsend with funny footed children.

scaryteacher · 21/07/2019 17:13

God, are French's still going? We used to go there to get our sandals for the summer when I was about 7, and I'm 53 now.
