Awful ear infection on holiday - please help!

I'm in Turkey and have an ear infection which is threatening to ruin my holiday.

I've never had to see a doc or anything on holiday and rarely do at home so not sure what to do?

The hotel has a doctor visiting most days. Not sure about today? Sunday?

Am I best off going to see the doc or finding a pharmacy? It's REALLY sore!

I wonder if that's to wick away the fluid in the ear?

PlaymobilPirate · 23/07/2019 11:02

God knows. I just nodded! Very quick service! I have to pay here then claim back. God knows how much it will be!

You'll be surprised how much IV antibiotic drip will get to work on your body - I'm so glad you went in, ear infections can get a lot worse very quickly.

You poor thing, I've had lots of ailments but it really is one of the most painful. Thankfully antibiotics really do work way more quickly than we tend to think.

Good luck and really hope you get to enjoy some of your holiday at least ThanksThanksThanks

Turkey has excellent Healthcare. There are polyclinivs everywhere, just walk in and ask to see an ENT. The whole thing will be about 20 quid and you get to see a properly trained doctor. People fly to Turkey for treatment a lot!

Oh blimey that's a lot,I'm sure your health insurance can't quibble though as you ended up at the hospital.

PlaymobilPirate · 23/07/2019 14:12

I really hope they wont! I'm assuming I can wait till I get home to ring them...

Just keep all your receipts and you should be fine. I was ill on holiday last year and didn't contact our insurance until we got home. Phoned them up and they paid the amount into our account instantly and said they didn't need the receipts. We were really surprised!

fraxion · 23/07/2019 14:16

Hope you are feeling better!

wiggywog · 23/07/2019 14:50

Fraction which company did you use

wiggywog · 23/07/2019 14:52

Sorry @fraxion which company did you use

fraxion · 23/07/2019 15:01

RBS Black travel insurance. It's the first time we have ever claimed on it in all the years we've had it. We scanned all the documents to send but they said no need. I guess if it had been in the thousands rather than the hundreds they would want evidence.

ItsJustTheOneSwanActually · 23/07/2019 15:07

Play check your insurance doesn't expect you to inform them immediately. Just to be on the safe side (mine do expect that)

teddypasty · 23/07/2019 18:55

Op I had an ear infection on holiday (middle ear) and I was told I wasn't fit to fly. Flight changes for my family for four came to £5800!!!!! Medical bills were around £1000. The insurance company paid for all of it, about 8 weeks after I put the claim in. Keep all your receipts and make sure you are fit to fly, flying with an outer ear infection is fine. Middle ear and your eardrum could burst.

CottonSock · 23/07/2019 18:59

My dd has a lot of ear infections that sometimes needed suction to get rid of puss, plus antibiotics and drops. I bet you feel much better soon fingers crossed

ourkidmolly · 23/07/2019 19:05

Nightmare! Hope you're better soon.

Usingmyindoorvoice · 23/07/2019 19:40

Please contact your insurance company today, most policies say you should contact them ASAP’ and not leave it until you get home

ThatCurlyGirl · 23/07/2019 19:52

OP tell the insurance company right away - it'd be terrible if you lost out on the cover you've paid for due to a technicality!

Hope you're feeling a bit better, ear infections are fucking horrible.

Thanks
