Awful ear infection on holiday - please help!

I'm in Turkey and have an ear infection which is threatening to ruin my holiday.

I've never had to see a doc or anything on holiday and rarely do at home so not sure what to do?

The hotel has a doctor visiting most days. Not sure about today? Sunday?

Am I best off going to see the doc or finding a pharmacy? It's REALLY sore!

Swimmers ear. I lost count of the customers I had with that when I was a holiday rep.
Hope you get it sorted Op.

Still struggling - been awake half the night again. Definitely seeing the doctor this morning. The drops aren't getting into my ear properly so haven't had much impact :(

The pharmacy will sell you antibiotics. Different rules than Uk. Once they kick in you’ll feel it ease off pretty quick.
I used to get regular ear infections and I used to fly for a living. Not the best idea to fly with it as you could potentially burst your ear drum.

PlaymobilPirate · 23/07/2019 06:14

I woke up in a sweat at 4am after dreaming they'd not let me fly and that I had to have a operation! I was obviously in a dramatic mood! Doctor is in the hotel at 10.30 so I'll pop and see her.

I've had ear infection in non EU country
£40 to see doctor
I was given antibiotics via injection
It cured me in a couple of days
Good luck

When’s your flight home?

amylou8 · 23/07/2019 06:43

You can't buy antibiotics over the counter anymore in Turkey, they stopped that a couple of years ago. Turkey is pretty first word for medicine if you're in a resort or city, so get to a doctor asap. There are pharmacies (Eczane) everywhere once you have a prescription. I hope you're better soon.

PlaymobilPirate · 23/07/2019 07:09

Flight home is Friday

I get ear infections a lot. I rest a cut clove of garlic in it overnight and often by the next day it's gone.

BlueSuffragette · 23/07/2019 07:49

You need antibiotics. Hope you feel better soon. Flowers

Thanks
PlaymobilPirate · 23/07/2019 10:02

Fuck! It's too bad to be treated here so I am at the hospital. I want to cry. Dp has to look after ds so I'm on my own.

'Suction and a medicated tampon' needed apparently. Oh, and a drip Hmm

LoafofSellotape · 23/07/2019 10:11

You're getting proper treatment now which is good news, hope you feel better soon x

TantricTwist · 23/07/2019 10:12

antibiotic eye drops if you cant get hold of ear drops

LoafofSellotape · 23/07/2019 10:13

Does anyone ever RTFT these days?

TantricTwist · 23/07/2019 10:17

The drip is a very good thing as you need antibiotics and its the fastest most effective way.

Did you clean your ears just before you went on holiday. I did this and got a horrible ear infection from the pool luckily I was given antibiotic eye drops as the hotel Dr didnt have ear drops and it cleared up pretty quickly. I now never clean my ears before swimming and always take antibiotic ear / eye drops before I go on a holiday that involves swimming plus I try and wear ear plugs.

TantricTwist · 23/07/2019 10:18

LoafofSellotape clearly not, but so what you rude passive aggresive person. I'm only trying to help. Bog off to another thread you troll.

LoafofSellotape · 23/07/2019 10:21

Rude and aggressive? Slight over reaction and I'm not a troll, been on MN over 12 years FYI.

TantricTwist · 23/07/2019 10:30

Hopefully the drip and 'tampon' will get it under control quickly.

PlaymobilPirate · 23/07/2019 10:58

They call it a tampon (@LoafofSellotape you made me giggle!) But it's more like a strip of gauze dipped in something!
