Silly question about staying at hospital with my child.

So I need to stay overnight in hospital with my child tonight. They have kindly given me a fold out bed. My silly question is do I put my PJ’s on and get into bed or just lie on top to sleep? Told you it was silly!! Thank you!

Either! 😁

Rollerbird · 20/07/2019 22:41

Hope your child feels better soon

iVampire · 20/07/2019 22:42

Whichever you feel best doing. Both are fine

SarahSinclair · 20/07/2019 22:42

You put your pj’s on!! You’ve been given bedding, yes?! I had to stay with my son in May and defo, all mums were in pj’s/nighties.

Mummoomoocow · 20/07/2019 22:42

Get cosy and relax, do whatever is necessary to fall asleep comfy for your poor baby’s security

pinkstripeycat · 20/07/2019 22:42

I’ve done it with my DH when he was little. There was a whole ward with a parent per child on a put you up bed. Put your PJs on, pull the curtains round and get in the bed.

hammeringinmyhead · 20/07/2019 22:43

I would change - the night I gave birth DH slept next to me in a recliner and changed into a t shirt and some jogging bottoms.

Lizzielocket · 20/07/2019 22:43

It depends how hot the ward is, I usually snuggle up and put ear plugs in, wards are noisy places. Hope your DC is ok.

pinkstripeycat · 20/07/2019 22:43

Not my DH! My DS

MissPollyHadADolly19 · 20/07/2019 22:43

I didn't have PJs with me as it was an admission from A&E but I got under the covers and made myself cosy! Bit pointless though as poorly DD was waking through the night so was up and down.
Do whichever you are comfortable with OP Smile

Cheery145 · 20/07/2019 22:43

Agreed, get cosy and try to get some sleep too, so that you can beat support your child. Hope they’re better soon xx

Cheery145 · 20/07/2019 22:43

*better not beat!!!

Doyoumind · 20/07/2019 22:45

Put pjs on and get as good a sleep as you can.

DorothyBastard · 20/07/2019 22:45

Pull the curtains closed, get your pjs on, and try to get as much sleep as you can. I hope your DC is okay

NoTeaForMe · 20/07/2019 22:45

Thank you. I’ll get changed then. This was an admission from A&E too but my husband went home and collected some bits. A broken bone but needs an operation in the morning.

Oh dear, sorry OP. Do whatever works for you in the circumstances. Hope you’re both home soon.

haveuheard · 20/07/2019 22:47

Do whatever you want to. When I had to stay overnight with my son the room was hot as the sun overnight so I ended up with PJs on on top of the bed and still overheated. I was then woken every hour or so as DS repeatedly set off the alarms kicking the monitor off his toe.

sarahfairy · 20/07/2019 22:48

Get in bed and sleep as best as you can, being in hospital with dcs is so tiring for any parent. Hope your dc is ok and try rest. Defo put your pjs, a change of clothes will help you feel more refreshed x

Mumofboys95 · 20/07/2019 22:50

My dc has stayed for a few nights a time at separate times and I always wore my pjs and slept under the sheet/cover thing. Then got up and went for a shower in the parent lounge when partner came to sit with dc (I wore the day before clothes to walk to the showers as it was a walk over the hospital and didn't want to walk around a children's hospital in my pjs haha)

Mumofboys95 · 20/07/2019 22:50

Hope your dc is feeling better soon

FossiPajuZeka · 20/07/2019 22:52

I've done both on different occasions, do what you feel comfortable doing. No one us going to care or judge you. There isn't a wrong thing to do. You're there to be a support and comfort to your poorly child and just being physically there means you are doing it right.

NoTeaForMe · 20/07/2019 23:06

Thank you everyone. Sometimes you can’t beat mumsnet for instant reassurance!

Do whatever makes you feel comfortable enough to get a bit of rest, hope your little one is feeling better soon x

Twotinydictators · 20/07/2019 23:14

I had the exact same situation with DD7 earlier this year, she needed an operation on her wrist due to a bad break. I changed into PJs! Fingers crossed you manage to get some sleep... P.s. DD made a great recovery and its already a distant memory. Hope all goes well Flowers

reluctantbrit · 20/07/2019 23:15

Poor little one. I would just wear something I wouldn’t mind getting out to get a nurse etc so maybe more leggings and -T-shirt but I wear nightdresses so that may look strange on a children’s ward.
