To think I've got the most batshit neighbours?

I'm gobsmacked...

History of next door is one letter through my door a month or so ago to ask if I would trim my rose bush in back garden as it's grown 8.5 inches above the fence and they can now see it. It's a five foot fence. Confused but I did new ( me) neighbourly thing and trimmed it.

This morning there's a note through door again from them , letting me know that they are going to contact the RSPSA and dog warden ( is there such a thing) and report me . A list of complaints were then listed .
These include, letting puppy howl all night, leaving pup alone all day to howl. Letting pup wee against same place on fence , which apparently seeps through and is damaging their vegetables. They are fed up with me shouting at puppy. They don't like the name I've chosen. Confused
They then go on to say they apologise for not stopping to give me a lift ( rural bus service) but they saw I had pup in my bag and didn't want it in their car. But they will be writing a stern letter to the bus company to complain that people shouldn't be allowed on buses with dogs as it's a health hazard.

I'm not sure whether to reply by writing ... or just shout through the letter box that I don't have a ducking dog!! I never have and I don't have any pets. The neighbours either side of me and them have cats. They have cats.

Just what I need ! Should I ignore?

Omg sounds like she's not too well , although your nice neighbour didn't mention that they were mentally ill so it maybe that they are both odd . Also you say they work so that doesn't sound like someone who's having a mental breakdown not that I'm a expert. Speak to the husband to see if he's the same .

StrongTea · 20/07/2019 16:08

Sounds like you have recently moved in, wonder if previous people had similar problems.

BruceAndNosh · 20/07/2019 16:16

My neighbour is called Gerald.
I don't have a dog either

mummmy2017 · 20/07/2019 16:18

Her husband is doing it and calling his own name

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 20/07/2019 16:32

Sounds like you have recently moved in, wonder if previous people had similar problems.

There's every chance she thinks you're the same people as the previous occupants and that you've just changed your look/names, maybe deliberately in trying to trick her. Either that or it's all the fault of 'those awful people at number 31' and she neither knows, cares or understands who actually lives there - it's just perceived problems associated with the house, even though the supposed issues would wholly be caused by the residents rather than the house or location itself, if that makes sense.

MrsGaryLightbody · 20/07/2019 16:37

Hi back to say @mnhq that I hope I haven't caused offence to anyone.

To the questions asked, yes I've seen and said good morning to Gerald and Mrs Gerald in the six or so months I've been here.
If I see him on his own I will definitely mention it. Hopefully this time without tears !

Yes I am on my own, no other person in rl to tell, so I will catch up with lovely next door and tell her.

I will also sound out the guy on the other side of Gerald's when he's back from holiday.

If I see the local community police I may mention in passing but I don't want to get any one in bother.

I love my little house now H has gone and am getting used to being on my own for the first time in my life . I'm not going to let this spoil it.

Thank you all for your handholds and support SmileShock

What, no update yet??

Thump · 20/07/2019 16:49

It's highly unlikely both have the same hallucinations, so I'd say that either she is having hallucinations or they're both trying to get you out.
I'm currently being harassed by a neighbour and it's extremely stressful. I do feel your pain. The lengths people go to. For e.g. Thursday night, I found a small tesco sized shopping bag of my recycling strewn around the ground beside the rubbish bin. For reference, the rubbish bin is in a shed, the recycling bin is outside the shed. So they must have gone into the recycling bin, fished out my bag of recycling, and thrown it around, in the hopes that maybe I had something with my name on it so that maybe they can say I'm littering. I honestly can't think of any other explanation. They are making repeated nonsensical completely fabricated and malicious complaints to the council about me. I've reported it to police and police have said that until there's a long pattern, it will be hard to get the CPS to press charges for harassment. But it's incredibly stressful all the same. And mine aren't even crazy, they're liars. Fantasists.

TheFutureMrsBellamy · 20/07/2019 16:51

Bah...my page hadn't loaded properly and I couldn't see anything after 12:00...apologies, my previous post looks completely crazy Blush

LadyLibre · 20/07/2019 16:54

Whispering "I know you have one" is so creepy 😱

DishingOutDone · 20/07/2019 16:55

I'm not sure why everyone is so convinced she has MH issues. Maybe she's just plain nasty.

Bookworm4 · 20/07/2019 16:58

@MrsGaryLightbody
I’m sure there’s plenty nice MNers nearby who would visit with their dogs. Keep yourself busy and ignore Mrs G next door but do keep a record of any further contact.

FelixFelicis6 · 20/07/2019 17:07

Very weird Confused

WomanLikeMeLM · 20/07/2019 17:23

Tell them to report you then wait for the RSPCA to come out and look at your invisible dog!

Runmybathforme · 20/07/2019 17:27

Please, please, let us know how you get on. You can’t leave us hanging. Sorry you’re having a rough time. X

KitKat1985 · 20/07/2019 17:33

How strange. I agree it may be worth talking to Gerald (as in her husband Gerald, not imaginary dog Gerald) to see if she's actually unwell.

IsobelRae23 · 20/07/2019 17:46

Pint of interest have you bought or do you rent your home? (Sorry if I’ve missed it). If you are renting, what’s been the turn over or previous occupants?

You said they are in their 40’s, early onset dementia is a possibility, along with many mental health problems. I have bipolar and when one of my meds is increased I have auditory hallucinations. Yet if you asked most people around me, they were and still are 😮that I have a mental health problem to begin with. As apparently I don’t seem the ‘type’ (I’m still curious to know what that is!!). So what I’m saying is there could well be mental health problems, we don’t walk around with a sign advertising it. Speak to Gerald, and he may well fill you in.

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 20/07/2019 18:06

I’d be terrified if I was having such realistic hallucinations. No wonder people think they’ve seen ghosts.

Blatherskite · 20/07/2019 18:10

I'd bet Mr Gerald knows nothing about the note. She's probably sending them while he's out because he won't let her as he can't hear a non existent dog doesn't want to cause a fuss

IncrediblySadToo · 20/07/2019 18:13

I’d definitely speak to Gerald & tell him that it’s not your dog that’s barking....he needs to look MUCH closer to home

Herocomplex · 20/07/2019 18:18

MsAdora I agree, people are often afraid of people suffering from delusions but it’s unimaginable how terrifying it must be to have them.

akmum18 · 20/07/2019 18:19

Hope you’re ok OP this is shocking, I’m betting the husband has a secret woman on the go somewhere in the garden Grin can you set up a camera facing your garden for some reassurance/pre warning/spying and also evidence you have no dog if the need arises? Don’t let them bother you you’ve done nothing wrong it will be their responsibility to prove you have a nuisance dog which they can’t! Her MH issues aren’t your concern Flowers

MotherOfSoupDragons · 20/07/2019 18:32

Poor woman. I don't think you've got anything to worry about OP. Just ignore any further notes. Some of the comments on this thread are vile.

SpottedGingham · 20/07/2019 18:33

Well someone in this tale certainly has MH issues. Smile
