To think the kitchen fruit bowl is not the place for the cat to snooze in!

Close family member has a gorgeous British blue cat (indoors only). The cat has free reign of the house downstairs and is allowed on kitchen surfaces such as the counter and table. Each to their own I guess, but I think this next bit is pushing it. I was invited for coffee today and was sitting chatting at the breakfast bar when all of a sudden I saw something move out of the corner of my eye and then I realized it was the cat snuggled up in the fruit bowl on the counter and he was yawning and adjusting his head. To say I was shocked was an understatement as I could just about see some apples underneath him. Relative could see I was taken aback and said that cat usually snuggles in the bowl when the fruit in about to run out as there's more room in it and that there were only a few apples in it anyway! I said you're not going to eat them surely and she said of course they will as the cat has no germs as he's an indoor cat! I don't care how clean and cute he is but he's still an animal at the end of the day. I hope she at least will wash them! We have pets who are a big part of our family so it's not that I'm not used to cats and dogs etc AIBU?

Very strict.

This reminds me of when I shared a flat with a girl who had 3 cats. One day I showed her a photo I had taken of one of them in her mixing bowl - he regularly went there and she was shocked as she hadn't realised and had used it plenty of times. Grin

It wouldn't bother me though I would make it a cat bowl and not sure would eat those apples. DH would. Sure they would be fine after washing.

YABU. Where they fit they sit. DCat once tried to sleep in the tumble drier until DC3 closed the door on her!

learieonthewildmoor · 18/07/2019 18:37

Can’t keep them off the microwave for love nor money, though.

I have tiny litter tray in playroom for tiny kitten just now. Big two adult cats have covered litter trays at back of cupboard etc. BigCat1 decided to sleep in little litter tray today, he got told off.

It’s washing baskets in this house regardless of whether there is washing in one.

She’s a Siberian. And a bit bigger now.

recrudescence · 18/07/2019 18:43

Cats don’t like fruit and show their contempt by sitting on it.

MooseBeTimeForSummer · 18/07/2019 18:45

Sometimes their owners don’t either!

Although I don’t sit on it.

learieonthewildmoor · 18/07/2019 18:51

I never keep fruit in this bowl.

pepsimax20bigger · 18/07/2019 18:53

Well I would always wash or peel apples before eating them.

mbosnz · 18/07/2019 18:55

@MooseBeTimeForSummer

OMG she's gorgeous! That is a spectacularly disapproving look. Totes uber cat.

MooseBeTimeForSummer · 18/07/2019 18:57

Indeed. I think she’s a feline reincarnation of my mother ..

mbosnz · 18/07/2019 19:00

My mother was watching me with our cat owner one day, and suddenly announced that she'd solved one of her life's dilemmas. She'd always wanted to come back as her cat, but that was obviously impossible. However, now she saw that the ideal would be to come back as my cat. So once she snuffs it, I can't ever have another cat.

motorcyclenumptiness · 18/07/2019 19:11

YABU - the cat didn't complain when you used his coffee mug.

Loyaultemelie · 18/07/2019 19:16

You were in the cars chair where else was he supposed to snooze

Loyaultemelie · 18/07/2019 19:17

Cats

butterboo · 18/07/2019 19:33

Our cat isn't allowed on the dining room table or kitchen counters so she only climbs up when she's cross with us or wants feeding (usually the same thing)

Ooh moose we have three Siberian's but am now a tad disappointed that they don't sleep in the accessible fruit bowl.

Big cat is good at guarding doors but not at playing hide and seek.
Oldest cat is good at looking pretty
Lack of photos of tiny one

I'm only here for the cat pictures. I love them 😻

I've never objected to our cat's choice of bed but I suspect if she started using the fruit bowl I'd have to let her get on with it and find somewhere else to keep the fruit. Seeing as she's in charge and all that.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 18/07/2019 19:51

There are two cats in there, I have now reclaimed the fruit bowl as they have moved on

I'm sorry but if I saw a cat in a fruit bowl I'd be more distracted by how cute it is rather than disgusting.

Wash the fruit. Worse things have been on them no doubt.

sueelleker · 18/07/2019 20:17

"Cats sleep, anywhere,
Any table, any chair
Top of piano, window-ledge,
In the middle, on the edge,
Open drawer, empty shoe,
Anybody's lap will do,
Fitted in a cardboard box,
In the cupboard, with your frocks-
Anywhere! They don't care!
Cats sleep anywhere. "
She didn't mention fruit bowls though!
