To ask you if I have appendicitis?

MysteryManchild · 18/07/2019 14:01

I know aibu is not the place to post this so by default I abvvvu but I can’t get an appointment at my GP until 8th of August and not sure if it’s an emergency.

It was my dds first birthday party on Saturday. DP and I were fooling around and he picked me up by my stomach, I had the worst pressured pain possible. It almost felt like I could feel something move, almost like the pressure of pregnancy? I know that doesn’t make sense! Definitely not pregnant. Since then have had really bad pain lower pelvis, starting at the right side of my upper pubic area and moving across towards my belly button. I just assumed possibly a pulled muscle(?) as I did a pretty vigorous work out a few days before and I’m not the fittest of people. It hurts to cough, sneeze, laugh, to stand up and sit down, rolling over in bed is awful. Monday I woke up In the middle of the night with a very upset tummy (Blush sorry tmi) and then yesterday evening I developed a fever with awful aches, every part of my body is hurting and paracetamol and ibruprofen offer zero relief. I’ve had very loose bathroom visits (sorry!!Blush) and also feel nauseous and very weak.

I know the two are likely not connected and I’ve probably just got a summer viral infection or something but can’t help but worry it could be something more sinister.

Tia!!

I think you either need to call your GP and tell them you need an urgent appointment for today or you need to go to the nearest walk-in centre.

Jebuschristchocolatebar · 18/07/2019 14:15

Sounds fairly like I felt before I had my appendix out. The pain kept moving around my abdomen and I had a really dodgy tummy and it hurt when I moved. Went to a&e and had emergency surgery that day. Think you should go ASAP

Tortadellanonna · 18/07/2019 14:16

You need to go to a walk in centre if you can’t get to see your go.

noeyedeer · 18/07/2019 14:16

Sounds just like my DH when his appendicitis started. Please push for an urgent appointment.

BillywigSting · 18/07/2019 14:21

You either need an emergency appointment or out of hours appointment with a gp, or go to the walk in or to A&E.

It's not an accident but if it is appendicitis (and it might be) then it is an emergency.

BillywigSting · 18/07/2019 14:22

If your gp fobs you off call 111 and tell them you have tried to get an appointment but can't get one

SimonJT · 18/07/2019 14:25

When I had mine I had stabbing like pains in my lower right abdomen, which I ignored for about four weeks until my appendix ruptured. As a result of being an idiot I needd emergency surgery which is riskier and leaves a larger scar.

It’s better to get it check out.

TheHodgeoftheHedge · 18/07/2019 14:27

In this order:
demand an emergency appointment TODAY. This is urgent.
If they refuse, then walk in or straight to A&E.

Minai · 18/07/2019 14:46

I would call 111 and describe your symptoms. I did a few months and it was appendicitis and I was sent to a&e and seen quickly. I was lucky to have caught it early and had keyhole surgery, one night in hospital and a quick recovery. It would have been much worse if I’d waited so time is of the essence. Get seen ASAP op.

SmallHope · 18/07/2019 14:53

That sounds serious, honestly I'd insist on a Dr's appointment and if you don't have any luck then I hate to be one of those MN'ters then call 111. They may call an ambulance for you, if you can't get to A&E, or they'll be able to arrange an in-hours or out of hours appointment for you to be seen.

Lindy2 · 18/07/2019 14:57

My appendicitis symptoms were different but one of the main things about appendicitis is that how it presents so differently in different people.
It does sound like you do need to be checked out. If you tell your GP you are worried about possible appendicitis hopefully they will find you an urgent appointment.

MysteryManchild · 18/07/2019 16:26

Thank you all! Have an appointment at my GPS in an hour but they didn’t seem too concerned over the phone.

DP is also rather unfazed and wants to go out with his mates, but will cancel “if I really want him to” Hmm

What's the advice op?

TheQueenSnortsAvocados · 18/07/2019 18:55

This is timely. I've had stomach pains for a week, with intermittent (but not always "classic") appendicitis symptoms. I hope you're okay op - watching with interest!

(So as not to drip feed or derail, I have spoken to my gp and have an appointment tomorrow).

TinyMystery · 18/07/2019 19:36

Hope you’re ok OP Flowers

SmallHope · 18/07/2019 19:37

How did the appointment go, OP?

CloserIAm2Fine · 18/07/2019 19:55

It’s very much one of those “could be nothing or could be serious” things but it definitely needs checking out urgently. Hope your appointment went ok!

My dad nearly died when his appendix ruptured, having refused to see a doctor until much too late. Appendicitis isn’t something to mess around with!

MysteryManchild · 19/07/2019 06:26

Thanks for checking in! Doctors appointment was fine, ruled out appendicitis as she could feel an internal bruise where it hurts (?). Did some other tests and was prescribed Trimethoprim for a urine infection. Doesn’t really explain the aches and fever etc but just hoping I’ll start feeling better soon.

Trimethoprim seems to have reacted badly with my stomach, have had very severe diarrhoea all night Sad

Northernsoullover · 19/07/2019 06:37

This doesn't sound right. I'm no medic so hopefully one will come along and clarify the 'feel an internal bruise' comment. I'd seek a second opinion. My friend went to the GP and was told not appendicitis. Then it ruptured. I was told I wasn't ill and it was just a virus. It was pneumonia. I know the NHS is stretched and no one wants to be that person, but on some occasions it can be wrong. You know your own health. After I was told I just had a virus the next day I rang the surgery explaining that I felt worse (I did) so they gave me another appointment.

cryer · 19/07/2019 06:38

Op does it feel painful when you press on the area, or worse when you let go?

MauisHouseOnMaui · 19/07/2019 07:19

That doesn't sound right to me either. SIL was told she was constipated when she had appendicitis, it burst before anyone believed her.

WTFthatsweird · 19/07/2019 07:34

I've had appendicitis and I've had an ovarian cyst and ovarian torsion.

What you're describing sounds like one of the latter two.

My appendicitis came out of nowhere.
One minute I'm watching crap on TV getting ready for an early night, the next minute I'm in so much pain I can't stand start being sick and DH on the phone to an ambulance in panic.

BillywigSting · 19/07/2019 07:41

Water infections can make you feel fevery and achey, sorry to hear the antibiotics aren't agreeing with you (I've had those ones before and they aren't pleasant). Could you go back to gp and request different ones if your side effects are really severe?

Hope they do the trick though and you feel better soon op

olympicsrock · 19/07/2019 07:47

I’m a doctor/ surgeon . With your symptoms I would want at least a review by a surgeon and blood tests. This doesn’t sound like a UTI and I have never heard the internal bruising description... I think a trip to A and E would be best as they can organise a surgical or Gynae review do blood tests and any imaging.

Number12 · 19/07/2019 07:49

Can you eat or poo, pass wind? If no, then appendix. When in was in my 20s I want to A&E with Appendicitis, they told me it I constipated and NHS shamed me into wasting resources and sent me home. Years after it grumbling and being told it was ovulation pain, IBS, I was crawling on the landing so sick and in pain. Once at A&E I was whisked through then again NHS shamed by being told it was just a water infection, the doctor actually rolled her eyes!! One blood test later and she was suddenly taking me very seriously.

The infection had spread to my overy and fallopian tube, abdominal cavity. I was very ill. When I arrived one of the surgeon's was stunned at the list of medications I had been on for years to try and deal with the pain and discomfort.

Since they operated I have never needed any medication it was all my appendix.

Go and get checked.
