Any GPS? Abornal blood results

bloodnuisance · 18/07/2019 12:27

I've had abnormal bloods spanning over half a decade and just keep getting the run-around. Pissing me off and I'm worried.

My ferritin is low, IGA is high, Serum Gamma GT is high, mean corpusc haemoglobin in low, eosinophils are high,

The IGA, Eosinophil and Serum Gamma GT are over double "normal" and have been for over five years.

I'm honestly shit scared.

I have had low ferritin and have ulcerative colitis.
Can you call your doctor and ask them to run through it with you X

bloodnuisance · 18/07/2019 12:33

My doctor didn't give a fuck.

Nobody? Confused

'Please come and work for free and endanger your professional registration while you do'.
Fuck no.
Ask for a second opinion OP, not randoms on the internet

MyFokMarelize · 18/07/2019 19:40

I'm not in any way medically trained. I do know this though. If I were you - and after so many years of worry - I would move heaven and earth to see a private consultant for definitive results and analysis. It would be worth the cost.

Cornettoninja · 18/07/2019 19:40

Definitely not a doctor but I think those bloods could be associated with, but not diagnostic of, a number of conditions.

They need other symptoms to go on to narrow it down. If you do have some symptoms but they’re vague then your best bet is to push for a referral to a haematologist or endocrinologist as your starting point.

Tallgreenbottle · 18/07/2019 19:49

Pay £150 for a consult at Spire and go from there. Or maybe switch GP's 🤷

Sparklesocks · 18/07/2019 19:54

I think you should get a second opinion irl - a real GP couldn’t do much help from a mn post, and you never know if people are who they say they are and might give dodgy advice

bloodnuisance · 18/07/2019 20:35

Yeah I know, it's just so bloody frustrating having symptoms for so long, elevated blood results and a non-commital GP!

OP posts:
Stopandlook · 18/07/2019 20:42

Are you feeling well?

YesQueen · 18/07/2019 20:53

Try another GP. Mine were abnormal for 8 years except they kept saying they were normal Confused
Another GP did the bloods again, dug out about 50 more blood tests, went "oh crap", rang me and sent me to haematology as an emergency. I did point out given they had been the same for 8 years it was probably an overreaction. But then I cried with relief because I knew I was unwell and nobody spotted it
Handy hint, if the normal range of neutrophils is between 2 and 8 then 0.2 is pretty abnormal thanks doctor AngrySad

bloodnuisance · 18/07/2019 21:43

I've felt unwell for a long time. My IgA is hugely elevated, same Serum GGT, my Eosinophils are double what they should be.

Problem is, anyone is getting less than half the snapshot of the full picture. What symptoms? When? What triggers them, what relieves them, what does any imaging show, what’s the family history, what’s the social history (including employment factors, smoking, alcohol, drug use)? What other medical history (prescribed drugs, previous diagnoses, previous surgery) is there? What do other bloods (count, renal function, clotting, ANA etc) show?

Obviously I’m not expecting you to answer any of these questions, it’s your private & confidential medical history. But without them, a set of isolated blood results is completely meaningless.

Either go back to your GP or ask for another opinion, but you won’t (or shouldn’t!) get anything useful from asking online.

Cheby · 19/07/2019 09:16

What did your GP actually say about the results?

Can you go back and see a different one?

Start with ‘I’ve felt unwell for x amount of time, with xyz symptoms. My previous GP did blood tests which were abnormal. My symptoms have not desisted and I would like to understand what the blood results mean for me please’

If they say ‘I don’t know’, ask who they can refer you to who would. If they say ‘they are abnormal but that doesn’t matter’ ask them to clearly explain to you why that doesn’t matter.

HarryElephante · 19/07/2019 09:20

Change GPs. Don't seek answers on the Internet.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 19/07/2019 09:35

I would echo the calls for a second opinion. Is there another GP at the practice or can you afford to go private? If not then can you sit down with the GP and ask them to explain the results line by line?

mindutopia · 19/07/2019 09:48

What are your symptoms?

And yes, I would seek out another GP or be seen privately.

SimplySteveRedux · 19/07/2019 23:28

Fatigue
Joint pain
Nausea
Tmgling/numbness in fingers/hands
Poor concentration
Double vision
Blurred vision

Sure there's more but off top of my head!

Thank you.

SimplySteveRedux · 19/07/2019 23:29

Well fuck my name change...

lavenderbluedilly · 19/07/2019 23:58

Have you had the following checked : ESR, kidney function (U&E), Calcium, Paraprotein and Bence Jones protein?

Utterlyexhausted · 20/07/2019 02:57

I know low MCH & obvs ferritin can be due to low iron anemia..that can count for the fatigue, tingling, poor concentration. Eosinophils that are high can be due to allergies, perhaps explaining your nausea?

Emelene · 20/07/2019 03:06

Initially I would go back to the doctor who ordered the tests. They will have heard your symptoms etc the first time.

It is hard for a GP who doesn't know you or your history (sounds complex with many symptoms) to interpret abnormal results that were ordered by someone else, in a less than 10 min appointment.

If your original GP can't help, then I would seek a second opinion from a senior GP in the practice.

Good luck. :)

SimplySteveRedux · 20/07/2019 05:06

I know it's hard from the information I've given but are any of these results an indication of autoimmune conditions?

Many thanks for all the help you've given me, and for everything you do.

Unrelated to the bloods, have had a brain scan and Elecro Muscle Conduction studies some/ordered this week.

You really are quite incredible people. StarStarStarStarStarGinWineCakeThanks

SheldonSaysSo · 20/07/2019 08:02

From the description of your symptoms (not blood tests as I am not a doctor) it seems likely you could have an autoimmune disease. Think along the lines of Coeliac disease, arthritis, lupus etc. Of course it may not be these but they need to be excluded by a rheumatologist.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 20/07/2019 08:42

Just as a thought. Have you had your vit B12 levels checked?
