To decline my neighbours parcels

Decormad38 · 18/07/2019 12:20

I work from home at least twice a week. I do not order a great deal online but am finding that I am constantly interrupted by knocks at the door. My dog starts barking too. I get to the door and find that it's once again a parcel for one particular next door neighbour. Bulking products! The parcel then sits in my hallway unless I go round with it - sometimes a week can pass. They never come for their parcel. I tried refusing a couple of parcels but the delivery man got quite aggressive. I'm getting cheesed off with it. AIBU to tell the neighbour- no more?

Yanbu. Put a sign on your door saying parcels for this address only.
It's nice to be neighbourly but they are just being rude.

Thehop · 18/07/2019 12:26

As above, sign on the door.

greenwaterbottle · 18/07/2019 12:31

I had a pretty little blackboard from wilko.
I only accept parcels for this address.

GreenFingersWouldBeHandy · 18/07/2019 12:33

I don't understand why people find this so difficult.

Sign on door; don't open it.

TheCakeCrusader · 18/07/2019 12:36

It doesn’t matter if the delivery guy gets aggressive- just refuse to accept it!

AnalUnicorn · 18/07/2019 12:37

If the delivery guy is getting aggressive, just say nothing and shut the door.

newmomof1 · 18/07/2019 12:39

Decline them and if the driver gets nasty, report him.

PearlHeart3 · 18/07/2019 12:44

Absolutely not unreasonable. I've been experiencing this a lot lately as I'm at home now I've finished uni for the year and about to have a baby. My dog also barks when people knock at the door. The neighbour has never even asked if I could take in the packages. I've since refused to take the packages in and the delivery guys know not to bother me about it now, they were understanding. The deliveries were arriving about 3-4 times a week and sometimes twice a day. They can always have it delivered at other locations, such as work, delivery pick up points, or you know, be polite and ask if you wouldn't mind taking it in.

Rainbunny · 18/07/2019 12:44

Well this might be the cowardly way out but would you consider a camera doorbell like Ring? That way you can see who is at the door and either not answer or answer through the doorbell speaker and say you arent home so you cannot take the package.

BiddyPop · 18/07/2019 12:46

Delivery guy might get aggressive but point out that he is failing in his duty of care and contract in not delivering it to the person he is supposed to deliver it to - who is NOT you!

ashvivienne · 18/07/2019 12:51

Delivery driver doesn’t get paid if the parcel is undelivered which is why I would imagine he became aggressive. Still out of order of course.
Advise the driver to leave it outside her property in a safe place if it’s possible and tell the neighbour you can’t take parcels in if they’re not in during the day

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 18/07/2019 12:52

I would teach them by keeping the parcel, assuming the driver puts a note through their door. Keep them in a shed or something and see how long it takes them to get it...

louise5754 · 18/07/2019 12:52

I'm home a lot and often delivery drives come straight to my door to give me neighbours parcels. I don't really mind however if I'm busy and I go to the door and it's not for me it can be annoying.

I do have a ring door bell however it takes so long for the app to open then to press the live view. It could be down to our internet though.

dJmed · 18/07/2019 12:53

No, cheeky buggers. Tell them never

Yellowweatherwarning · 18/07/2019 12:55

Take your ddog to the door with you...
If he gets shirty tell him you are reporting him.
And do it.

gingerbreadsprinkle · 18/07/2019 12:59

I hate this. We only do it for the neighbours we are really good friends with but it's annoying because we work from home and I think the delivery guy knows this.

Firebreathingwoman · 18/07/2019 13:02

We have a doorbell camera and a sign which says 'no univited traders'. I WFH and don't want to be disturbed.
This morning TWO men from the same company who were working on a neighbouring driveway separately banged on the door wanting to know if I wanted the same work done.
Bloody annoying. I suspect they couldn't read the sign though.
I feel your pain, OP.

mussolini9 · 18/07/2019 13:07

I tried refusing a couple of parcels but the delivery man got quite aggressive

Unless the driver pushed past you & actually left the parcel without your consent, I find this puzzling. Next time, instead of 'trying' to refuse, just refuse. Or put up a sign so you don't need to interact with the driver again.

Can you neighbour arrange to have their parcels delivered to their own work address instead of, by default, yours?

mussolini9 · 18/07/2019 13:10

Why is it on Mumsnet people are so keen on running to teacher instead of dealing with another adult themselves? The place is obsessed with "reporting" people!

If he gets shirty tell him you are reporting him.

Alternatively, if he gets shirty, grow the fuck up & tell him yourself. It's really not hard: "I'm not accepting other people's deliveries" & shut the door.

newmomof1 · 18/07/2019 13:25

@mussolini9 that's all well and good but what about when he gets shirty with a vulnerable person just because he's not getting his own way.

Telling him yourself will stop him being aggressive with you.
Reporting him will make him think twice with everyone.

TrappedInThatBrightMoment · 18/07/2019 14:01

(Sorry for the tangent here)

I do have a ring door bell however it takes so long for the app to open then to press the live view

It could just be the device you are using to answer the door. The Ring app seems to be huge, and opening it on a ‘slow’ device can take ages

mussolini9 · 18/07/2019 14:13

Telling him yourself will stop him being aggressive with you.
It generally does. Cultivating an adult attitude of being able to stand up for yourself means you are less likely to present as a victim & be treated as one by aggressive twerps.

Reporting him will make him think twice with everyone.
How? If hes so aggressive he will not listen to the OP, he's unlikely to change his mindset because someone else picks him up on it.

thedevilcamefromthehimber · 18/07/2019 14:17

If you know your not expecting a visitor or parcel don't answer the door.

Pinktinker · 18/07/2019 14:18

YANBU at all. I’d put a sign on the door to say no parcels unless addressed to me.

newmomof1 · 18/07/2019 14:27

@mussolini9 because generally people stop acting like dicks when they realise their job could depend on it 🙄
