To think no woman should be forced to wax male genitalia

www.thepostmillennial.com/another-b-c-woman-forced-out-of-business-in-transgender-male-genitalia-waxing-case/amp/?__twitter_impression=true

This is where self id has got Canada to.

A male identifying as a woman is suing 16 mainly immigrant women who work from home as beauticians because they only provide brazilian waxing services for females.

Many others have settled out of court for a quiet life.

AIBU to think that no-one working from home in a vulnerable situation as these women are should be forced to wax the genitals of anyone they don't feel comfortable waxing?

What lawyer/organisation represents/finances this person? I know they do "self representation" but someone must be advising/financing... and how did it ever come to court?

Step back a minute and the case is that a person with a man's sexual organs (ie a man) wants to have said organs intimately touched by a woman in her own home who does not offer this service. What on earth is there to argue?

meditrina · 18/07/2019 09:23

"Nobody should ever feel pressured to touch anyone else’s genitals for whatever reason"

Those people should not be working in a journey b which includes genital contact tyhen.

Just like Christians cannot any longer offer services only to Christians, really. The core principle was established long ago. No-one came forthe Christians, said actually they are right and should be able to offer services only within their belief system. They said they must change mods or close.

This is, unfortunately, exactly the same. And the principle that if you offer services they must be inclusive, has been the established norm for a couple of decades now.

These service providers probably need to change the range or type of services they offer. Just as all those who went before them have had to do, so that all goods and services are inclusive.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 18/07/2019 09:26

I wouldn’t be surprised is there are transgender people who are in despair over this case too as well as biological females who are not transgender. I assume that if you are a person with gender dysphoria who just wants to quietly live your life in a way that helps you feel comfortable in your own skin these sort of antics must be deeply worrying. It creates a very negative image of transgender people.

BarbariansMum · 18/07/2019 09:27

I think it's fine to offer a male only/female only intimate service like genital waxing. I wouldn't support a right to discriminate by race or age but it is very, very obvious why these women aren't comfortable offering such a service to a man, whatever he calls himself.

AnxietyDream · 18/07/2019 09:27

I think no biological or born female - or whatever the politically correct terminology is today - would ever click the YABU, unless they have done so by mistake.

I have lived in BC and have many female Facebook friends who post in support of this person. Comfortable in the knowledge that they don't have to do jobs that put them anywhere near anyone's genitals. I am heartened by the response here though.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 18/07/2019 09:29

Is there any online or other activism directed towards this outrageous injustice? It's barely been reported in mainstream media. I'd be pleased to add my name to any petitions or suchlike.

Daysofpearlyspencer · 18/07/2019 09:29

Canada has introduced the self ID law, if a man identifies as a woman he must be treated as one no surgery required. I believe Australia maybe similar.
This is what the transgender community are wanting here in the UK, hence men in women's sport is becoming more common and from 2020 men can enter the Olympics as women.

sackrifice · 18/07/2019 09:29

read that awful stuff about them going into a changing room and saying what should they do if someone asks for a tampon and asking if you see people walking around with strings hanging out and all kinds of deranged stuff

Young girls. Not just 'someone'.

Orangeballon · 18/07/2019 09:30

Yuck!!😝

sackrifice · 18/07/2019 09:31

It is not exactly the same.

Women trained to wax vulvas should not be forced to handle penises.

Daysofpearlyspencer · 18/07/2019 09:33

Yetanotherspartacus there is a media blackout on this, there is a thread on FWR covering this with a link to someone tweeting from the trial, it's insane!

Jamsangwich · 18/07/2019 09:33

Surely a sole trader has the right to decide who they take on as clients? I understand not being allowed to discriminate based on protected characteristics, but sometimes common sense has to prevail, surely. I don't see how a beautician can wax body parts that a client doesnt have. Thats impossible. Thats like a bald person demanding a perm.

bingbongnoise · 18/07/2019 09:34

This is going to be pretty unanimous I think.

Of course YANBU. It's a disgrace. I am sick of people 'identifying' with how and what they wish to be, and demanding those rights. Women have fought for centuries to have the rights and safe spaces that they DESERVE, and this is sickening tbh.

I am not transphobic I swear, and the majority of transfolk are lovely, ordinary people, who bother no-one. But this kind of individual REALLY pisses me off. Hmm

Earlywalker · 18/07/2019 09:35

YANBU.
Treating someone as a woman/respecting who they are and being forced to wax their balls are not the same.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 18/07/2019 09:38

I thought that the HRC had lifted the suppression order?

ChiefClerkDrumknott · 18/07/2019 09:38

meditrina These women have trained to wax female genitalia, not male. It’s a very different ball game (ahem) waxing either and requires different skills. They do not need to change the services they offer as they are trained and willing to wax female genitalia. This person has male genitalia, a waxing service that is not offered
Are you suggesting that they should be forced to learn how to wax male genitalia in order to be inclusive and if they refuse, should close their business and lose their livelihood?

diddl · 18/07/2019 09:39

"I think it's fine to offer a male only/female only intimate service like genital waxing. "

Yes I agree, it should be.

Problem here is that a person with male genitals ids as female.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 18/07/2019 09:40

Even more so if they are working from home it’s s safety issue!

And NO-ONE should be forced to have anyone in their HOME that they aren't comfortable with.

Campervan69 · 18/07/2019 09:40

YetAnotherSpartacus yes the order has been lifted

This is where self id has got Canada. This is why women raising concerns must be listened to.

We're back to the conflation of sex and gender.

They aren't the same thing.

Sometimes in life you don't like the look of someone for reasons of personal safety . And if that someone is going to be alone with you in your house, then surely you have the right not to have to admit them?

meditrina · 18/07/2019 09:43

"And NO-ONE should be forced to have anyone in their HOME that they aren't comfortable with"

Refer you back to the Christian B&B owners. The judgement was that they did not get to say what happened in their own home once they had chosen to open it up for the provision of services.

In England, precedent would mean that the complainant would win.

IrmaFayLear · 18/07/2019 09:44

Sorry, Schadenfreude, was typing whilst you had made the same point.

IrmaFayLear · 18/07/2019 09:44

Piffle! The B&B owners weren't obliged to touch the guests' genitals.
