What is the meaning of life - in very simple terms

Why do some people get to be born in such happy gentle and supportive families and live such happy lives being oh so happy and gentle and supportive.
Why do some of us grow up with absolutely shit parents who give us no support; who we actively have to try and overcome just to live a non-criminal and non drain on society life.
Why are some born so beautiful. Life at their feet just because of how they look.
Are most of us just meant to be ordinary. Struggling through life and then dying with no real thought of what it was all about.
Is there a higher purpose we should think about everyday - those of us already seemingly confined to an "ordinary life". But circumstances shouldn't really constrain us from knowing something more meaningful.
Does this make any sense at all?

How the hell does one report ones one thread. And the fact one does not give a fuck about contributing to the stupidity of this site????

Something seems to be really getting to you at the moment OP. You have posted on AIBU and had some considered answers and some of the usual snippy ones. None of us really knows the meaning of life. It sounds as if life's unfairness is getting to you and, on the surface life is unfair. Some people think there is intellegent design behind it, others don't. It is a lifetimes work to discover what life means for you. I don't think you can work it out intellectually, spending time in nature and meditation might help. Reading about different philosophies and religio s might help. Try to enjoy the journey. Some people do indeed have an easier life than others but we all have some hard times and some easier times. I hope life takes a better turn for you.

Why are we here , what's life all about ?
Is God really real , or is there some doubt ?
Well tonight we're going to sort it all out
For tonight it's the meaning of life

What's the point of all this hoax ?
Is it the chicken and the egg time , are we just yolks
Ore perhaps we're just one of Gods little jokes
Well ça see'est the meaning of life

Is life just a game where we make up the rules
While we're searching for something to say
Ore are we just simply spiralling coils
Of self-replicating DNA ?

In this life , what is our fate ?
Is there Heaven and Hell ?
Do we reincarnate ?
Is mankind evolving or is it too late ?
Well tonight it's the meaning of life

For millions this life is a sad vale of tears
Sitting round with nothing to say
While scientists say we're just simply spiralling coils
Of self-replicating DNA

So just why , why are we here ?
And just what , what , what , what do we fear ?
Well çe soir , for a chance , it will all be made clear
For this is the meaning of life
-see'est le sens de la vie , this is the meaning of life

Op you really need to calm down and stop insulting us. If you don't like what we're writing stay off the thread. The only person you are upsetting is yourself.
You don't have to read it.Perhaps you could delete your Mumsnet account.

Ninkaninus · 17/07/2019 12:21

If you don’t care about contributing why don”t you stop posting and fuck off?? No one’s making you stay, and frankly I don’t think you should - you’re clearly not in the right frame of mind to do so, for whatever reason.

Sorry but I’m not going to keep being polite if you’re going to be aggressive for absolutely no reason. People have bent over backwards being nice and you keep being a twat. Step away from the keyboard for a bit, sort your head out and maybe find something better to do with your time.

Whosorrynow · 17/07/2019 12:21

Thank you OP for giving us all a little bit of a laugh and providing an amusing and inconsequential distraction 🙂

Morgan12 · 17/07/2019 12:24

Jesus christ why are you getting so defensive? Previous posters were actually giving reasoned answers until you went full on psycho.

Anyway, its luck. I was lucky to be born into a large loving family, in a country with education and opportunity and be semi attractive. Other people aren't as lucky and are born in shit countries with no water.

There is really no answer to this at all.

coldwarenigma · 17/07/2019 12:30

I kinda get what OP meant in the original post...was thinking similar while walking the dog....

It feels like walk dog, commute, work, commute, walk dog, dinner, sleep...rinse and repeat daily 5 days a week..2 days of shopping/housework/dog walks/gardening

Annual leave is the only time where actually enjoying/feeling alive is really in my mind...

The grind each day feels like such a waste of life..

roisinagusniamh · 17/07/2019 12:32

Similar Morgan (except the large loving family bit , large yes but loving not)
I've created and nurtured my own loving family.

Ninkaninus · 17/07/2019 12:32

Everybody got what OP was saying.

tearinmybeer · 17/07/2019 12:36

I think OP might BU

shieldmaidenofrohan · 17/07/2019 12:38

My Mum has a simple life philosophy
"Be a Pollyanna"
If you have read the children's book you'll know what I mean. If not, Pollyanna is a character in a book who, no matter what crap life throws at her, always finds a positive in a situation to be glad about. This really does take some work at times, especially when the situation is hard. My Mum is one of the most positive people you can ever meet. She is exactly the opposite to her sister who, despite having a pretty good life, always finds the negative in things.

If life is shitty and you can't improve it, what is the point in being angry and downbeat about it ? You just spend your life being miserable and angry as well as being stuck in shit. You may as well do your best to be positive and make the best of the shit because it's a long life to be fucked off and miserable.

My work is very stressful and lots of my colleagues spend their days moaning and stressed and angry. What's the point ? You've got to spend 10 hours there regardless of your mental approach so you may as well be positive and happy because it's a bloody long shift to be miserable - and you make everyone else miserable too.

If it's something that you can change then change it. Don't just be angry and miserable - take action

Namechange8471 · 17/07/2019 12:38

We're just viruses with shoes

Elliebellbell · 17/07/2019 12:42

I agree everyone knew what she was asking but it can't be answered.

It's no different to the "what happens when you die?" threads.

There will never be a definitive response because it's impossible to know and all opinion differs.

The op sounds very unhappy and that's manifesting itself in aggression. Heaven knows what makes her think an Internet forum will give her the meaning of life.

🤣🤣🤣

I've got a honking cold right now and that just sums me up!

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 17/07/2019 12:44

@shieldmaidenofrohan

Very sensible advice. I work on exactly that basis Smile

Lifecraft · 17/07/2019 12:48

The correct answer was given in one of the first few replies.

Don’t overthink life. At the end of the day, we’re basically glorified bacteria with an overinflated sense of our own importance.

shieldmaidenofrohan · 17/07/2019 12:50

Nicelegs thankyou. I don't know the meaning of life but I'm sure it's not to spend it being miserable like my Aunty

zippey · 17/07/2019 12:50

Meaning of life is to procreate, survive, and pass your genes to the next generation. This is what animals and plants try to do.

sweeneytoddsrazor · 17/07/2019 12:52

Maybe you need to go to church OP. Or invite the JWs in next time they come round. You will probably find an answer there. Whether you believe that answer is up to you.

shieldmaidenofrohan · 17/07/2019 12:56

My other bit of advice...

Happiness and positivity are a choice. You have to work on it. I really needed to work on positive mental attitude because I had got into a very negative, cynical frame of mind and was really spreading "bad vibes" and making my family, in particular, miserable with my angry ness.

So this year my resolution was to live a happier life and stop being such a miserable, argumentative person. I really had to work on it st first but now I don't work so hard and I am so much happier. Nothing in my life has changed, other than making an active decision to be happy and positive instead of waiting for some external influence to change my mindset.
I find trying to think of 3 things you are glad about every day helps me to be positive. But they must be actual real things, not just some airy fairy concept eg.
im happy we aren't at war - no
i'm happy I found my favourite commuting CD that puts me in a good mood when I get to work - yes

Purplehammer · 17/07/2019 13:01

Try watching this on YouTube.

A Ted talk by a wonderful and brave woman.
There are no guarantees in life however you live it.

scatterolight · 17/07/2019 13:16

The OP is frustrated because she asked a meaningful question and got a load of nihilism and "cool" irony in response. It's understandable. Sorry about that OP.

If I were to sum up what I think the meaning of life is I'd say something like...

Honour your ancestors, watch over your descendants.

If you can hold that in your mind as an aim all good things will flow from there. Each of us is a link in a chain and the meaning is not in the link but the chain itself.

Perhaps you had bad parents but they are only 2 people amongst the hundreds/thousands who live on in you and who would be proud of you.
