Dd, dh and myself just had a four day break by the sea side. We live as far as you can get from the seaside in the uk. Whilst on our holiday i bought dd a net. Dh and dd then spent a few hours exploring sand rock pools (no rocks, just sand with water left in them) with said net. I got amazing photos of them but as sand rock pools it was limited. Dd is two. Her favourite film at the moment is im going on a bear hunt and when they go rock pooling theres real rock pools. So knowledgeable mntters..wheres the best rock pools with dunes like the film in the uk suitable for a two almost three year old to visit. Thank you.

Cromer in Norfolk also good crabbing on the pier

ConorMcGregorsChin · 15/07/2019 20:36

Tons of seals to be seen here too right now.

TyneTeas · 15/07/2019 20:38

Well with Whitley Bay/St Mary's Island suggested 4 times, I think that's it decided for you OPGrin

EllebellyBeeblebrox · 15/07/2019 20:39

West Runton in Norfolk. Lovely rock pools but lots of sand too :)

ConorMcGregorsChin · 15/07/2019 20:41

As I live literally on the doorstep of St Mary's Lighthouse, I'm happy to play local guide to you or anyone else who would like to visit our beautiful coastline. Please PM me and I will happily oblige.

Anywhere in North Cornwall, but particularly Treyarnon Bay near Padstow. One massive pool in the rock too that you can swim in at low tide.

Castle beach Falmouth

HeroicAlien · 15/07/2019 20:57

Another vote for Kimmeridge. Plus there's lots of child friendly beaches, farms, pubs etc. in the local area. We're on holiday there right now (we come every year) and loving it - DS spent today crabbing in Poole harbour and then playing on Sandbanks beach.

Langland Bay in Gower

Wingingitsince2018 · 15/07/2019 21:06

Southerndown in south Wales is beautiful.

Lovely and clean sandy beach as it is fully tidal, plenty of rock pools and a really nice walled garden up on the clifftop. Ogmore Castle (the broken down castle as I knew it as a child) is a 10 minute drive inland on the estuary which is great for exploring and you can do a nice short walk from there too.

Many happy childhood memories made there Smile

Gyllyngvase and maenporth beaches near falmouth and helford passage (river beach) always find loads of crabs from small to medium size, big shrimp (5cm ish) small fish and twice we've caught sand eels.

Merril · 15/07/2019 21:15

Another vote for Robin Hood's Bay.

Also went rock pooling to Port Isaac this year which wasn't bad but not as good as RHB.

Fizzypoo · 15/07/2019 21:18

My favourite memory of rock pooling is on perronporth beach in Cornwall.

In looe (Cornwall) theres the main sandy beach but to the left there is a whole beach covered in rocks. We found loads of crabs and tiny fish in the rocks there.

Londonmummy66 · 15/07/2019 21:58

YY to Northumberland - try the beach between Seahouses and Bamburgh at low tide.

freshasthebrightbluesky · 15/07/2019 22:10

Flamborough Head in Yorkshire

freshasthebrightbluesky · 15/07/2019 22:11

Mousehole in Cornwall

Gertie75 · 15/07/2019 22:14

Perranporth in Cornwall, the rock pools get lovely and warm and some are so big you can swim in them.

We were there last month and found loads of creatures.

londonrach · 16/07/2019 07:23

Thank you everyone got some ideas. My dd found crabs in the sand pools which we looked at for seconds before putting them back. It was great fun but felt we needed a proper rock pool. X

Port Eynon beach has everything - rock pools, sand for castle building, toilet, life guards, a little shop and 2 chip shops. Grin

Lonecatwithkitten · 16/07/2019 07:40

St Helen's Duver on the Isle of Wight.
Cobo Bay on Guernsey.
Western end of Widemouth Bay, Bude.

leckford · 16/07/2019 07:41

If you do this somewhere you don’t know you must find out the tide times, you and the children could get stuck on the rocks. Also don’t take the animals out of the pools, look at them and put them back

MsJaneAusten · 16/07/2019 07:44

Watching with interest.

Mammyloveswine · 16/07/2019 07:50

Came on to say st Mary's lighthouse near Whitley bay!

We popped to the beach after school and nursery yesterday and I just felt so lucky that it's on our doorstep!

We moved from another city before we got married and I am so pleased!

stucknoue · 16/07/2019 07:54

East Devon is nice for little kids, all the beaches go way out low tide, exmouth is beautiful sand but others have more rock pools. Relatively accessible from the midlands too.

IsabelleSE19 · 16/07/2019 08:03

Another vote for Cresswell in Northumberland!
