might say "are they brothers?" not "are they twins?"

OP posts:
WendyWeber · 29/07/2007 22:58

Are you really back now, hinker?

lillochum · 29/07/2007 23:18

I have twin nephews, one blond and blue-eyed and the other dark haired and dark-eyed. It is quite astounding the number of people who have said "twins, ooh are they identical?" DUH!

chipmonkey · 30/07/2007 00:09

WendyWeber, hunker's not back, that's VVVQV using her password. Again! {{{rolling eyes emoticon}}}}

Hunker, we had this so much with ds1 and ds2 that eventually ds1 used to answer back in a weary tone
"yes we look like twins, don't we? Yes we have the same hair, don't we?"

WendyWeber · 30/07/2007 09:51

VVVQ is posting as hunkermunker??? Confused

Leati · 30/07/2007 09:57

Mine are three years apart and people ask that, I think it hilarious. Of course it is usually a half-blind little old lady doing the asking.

MrsJohnCusack · 30/07/2007 09:57

you just wanted an excuse to draw our attention to that supercute photo. own up

Leati · 30/07/2007 10:00

Oooh they are cuties and they do look alot alike. Mine don't look any where near that much alike.

throckenholt · 30/07/2007 10:12

It works both ways - I have id twins - I am amazed how many people look startled when I say they are twins (weird because lots of people can't tell them apart). They look at me with an "are you sure ?" face - yes I am sure - I was there at the time

It seems there are a lot of idiots out there walking the streets.

ElenyaTuesday · 30/07/2007 11:01

Well, on the other side of the coin, I went to school with twins who were wildly different sizes - one tall and slim, one short and plump; one wore glasses and one didn't; one had bright ginger hair and one didn't. Honestly, they barely looked related but they were twins!

mygirllollipop · 30/07/2007 13:00

I had this too, DD1 and DD2 do look similar but they were about 1yo and 3yo and it was one of the last times I used the double buggy. I was speechless!

Miaou · 30/07/2007 13:06

Ah that's the other thing - people seeing a double buggy often assume that it must contain twins.

As a boss of mine used to say, "ASSUME makes an ASS of U and ME"

AttilaTheMum · 30/07/2007 13:10

My sister used to get furious if people asked if we were twins - "No, I am 17 months and twenty-six days older, and one and a quarter inches taller than she is" in a voice of great scorn...

chipmonkey · 30/07/2007 21:03

Sorry, Wendy, I was joking!. Hunker had come back posting under VVVQV's account but now appears to be REALLY back!

kimi · 30/07/2007 21:07

Oh Hunker your children are BEAUTIFUL

chipmonkey · 30/07/2007 21:39

Yes, hunker specialises in handsome boys!

hunkermunker · 30/07/2007 21:42

Aw, thank you

They don't look like twins though? Brothers, yes?

WW, yes, am back.

Bloody place [mutters]

OP posts:
GodzillasBumcheek · 30/07/2007 21:44

My sister had this problem with her boys born a year and 2 months apart. Mind you, she did dress them in identical clothing. Which is probably why i never ever ever ever dressed my dts the same.

hunkermunker · 30/07/2007 21:46

I might start dressing them identically and going "yes, but we only feed the one that's been good that day" to people who enquire

OP posts:
ChasingSquirrels · 30/07/2007 21:50

Oh god I got this aswell, and there is 3.4y between them, ds2 in the pushchair - 8mo, ds1 - 4yo (FFS). OF COURSE THEY FUCKING AREN'T ARE YOU BLIND!!!! Yes they are very similar, but for god sake make an effort to say something just slightly credible about that fact please....

ChasingSquirrels · 30/07/2007 21:51

oh cute boys hunker

hunkermunker · 30/07/2007 21:52

CS! You either live near me or there are lunatics across the entire country!

The last woman who said it to me - I had to say "No, there's nearly two years between them" and smile at her benevolently. She looked faintly embarrassed.

OP posts:
ChasingSquirrels · 30/07/2007 21:56

across the country I think! to be fair, they are probably just looking for something to say about the similarility and say the first (inane) thing that pops into their head - and swiftly wish they hadn't!

GodzillasBumcheek · 30/07/2007 21:57

Oh, there are lunatics up and down the country. I kept getting asked if dts were a boy and a girl, because dt2's hair was short. She was wearing a skirt and a pink t-shirt fgs! Two short planks. Thick as.

alipiggie · 30/07/2007 22:03

Don't worry these people are transatlantic too . I'm forever being asked my two are twins even though there's a good height distance between then. Have to say when they're sitting down they are the same height. When I say then no they're not twins there's 18mnths between them, I get the wow you're brave, how did you cope speech.
