Is it ok to use parent and child parking when heavily pregnant

Karigan195 · 15/07/2019 14:47

Exactly that really. At 34 weeks. Had several instances of people parking next to me and then not being able to open my car door enough to get in. So far my tricks have been to just park well away from everyone but still had to clamber over passenger seats and on one memorable occasion over the back seats when I could only get in through the sliding door. Obviously all the above is getting harder so would it be unreasonable to just say sod it and park in parent and child?

Ps I am parking properly between the lines!

Not a problem with me OP!

Ihatesandwiches · 15/07/2019 14:49

Yes, park in a P and C space. Any one asks where you child is, just point to your bump and "on board"!

Lifeover · 15/07/2019 14:50

Think that’s got to be ok. Anyone objecting is a twat not worth worrying about tbh

ScreamingValenta · 15/07/2019 14:50

You have your child with you, so it's a yes from me.

BillywigSting · 15/07/2019 14:52

I'd say go for it. They're for when you need extra space due to a child and you fit that criteria

Idontwanttotalk · 15/07/2019 14:52

I'd definitely do it. You do need more space to open the door wide.

ememem84 · 15/07/2019 14:52

Yep. Ok with me. I’m 38 weeks and am struggling. I parked in one this morning.

REllenR · 15/07/2019 14:54

I'd say no, but i know most people think it's ok!

Liverbird77 · 15/07/2019 14:54

I had to do it when I was in my last trimester. I could hardly move and needed loads of space. I would rather a pregnant woman park there than someone with able-bodied older kids who can get themselves in and out if the car.
I hate it when people park there for no reason though, but I hate the p and c "police" too. We have a two door car. My five month old (at the time) was in the back in his car seat. My husband had gone to get a trolley and, before I had the chance to get my child out, a really rude man shouted "where's your kid?" at me. I flipped out on him. He had picked the wrong sleep deprived woman to pick on that day!

Geminijes · 15/07/2019 14:55

I would say no. Just use car spaces further from the supermarket, there's always plenty available from the far end of car parks where nobody else parks.

RockyRolly · 15/07/2019 14:56

Of course it's ok. Do it!

Teddybear45 · 15/07/2019 14:56

If you have an option of using another less popular space further away then you should use that as most pregnant women do. Or do you think it’s also okay for obese people to use P&C spaces for the same reason?

Stationeryqueen · 15/07/2019 14:56

Yes from me, your child is on board - no right minded person would challenge you.

maxbabi · 15/07/2019 14:56

I'm disabled but have no badge so I park in parents places.
Go for it

RockyRolly · 15/07/2019 14:56

@Teddybear45 that's such a ridiculous argument. Obese people dont have another human inside their belly.

Karigan195 · 15/07/2019 14:57

@Geminijes. Been doing that and it doesn’t work. People seem to just like parking next to my vehicle.

Karigan195 · 15/07/2019 15:00

@Teddybear45 obese can squish a bit if needed. A hard baby bump will not squish....

And anyway I already said I usually park miles away from everyone but people just seem to love parking next to my car!

Yes, do it! I once parked in a multi storey in one of the last spaces next to an upright beam, I was over 30 weeks. When I got out of the car I realised I couldn’t get past the beam. I realised the only physical way to get out was to get back in my car and drive out! I think I ended up going home as there was literally nowhere for me to park in town that day where I could also get out of the car once parked! It’s a problem. Totally reasonable option imo. By that point I was already driving round with the car seat fitted in readiness. I’d totally stand my ground with anyone who miraculously had a problem with it.

MyNameIsRachel · 15/07/2019 15:03

I’ve got a baby in a buggy and parent spaces when there are a Godsend

If you took the last space I wouldn’t mind a jot.

I wish I could have had the strength to park in them when I was heavily pregnant I did didn’t leave the house much after 35 weeks.

You go for it OP.

justasking111 · 15/07/2019 15:07

Sounds fair to me at that stage I could not reach the bottom of the supermarket trolley they had to find someone to help me.

Grumpbum123 · 15/07/2019 15:07

Go for it

hopelesslyromantic93 · 15/07/2019 15:08

If you need the extra space I think go for it! I've started to notice recently though a few places actually have spaces for pregnant people. Leeds trinity shopping centre had these and i was impressed!

Mintjulia · 15/07/2019 15:08

After about 7 months, I was so huge, an ordinary space didn’t work for me. I got wedged because I couldn’t open the car door wide enough.
So yes, use the M&B space and stare down anyone pedantic enough to moan.
Congratulations on baby.

Karigan195 · 15/07/2019 15:09

@justasking111 ha yeah I’m avoiding deep big trolleys too!

When I had to go over from the back seats I had to remove the headrest and still nearly got stuck! Pregnancy is entertaining isn’t it!
