Is it ok to use parent and child parking when heavily pregnant

Exactly that really. At 34 weeks. Had several instances of people parking next to me and then not being able to open my car door enough to get in. So far my tricks have been to just park well away from everyone but still had to clamber over passenger seats and on one memorable occasion over the back seats when I could only get in through the sliding door. Obviously all the above is getting harder so would it be unreasonable to just say sod it and park in parent and child?

Our P&C parking is for expectant mothers and parents with "little ones" (that's what the sign says. I'd have no problems with any pregnant woman (and I don't object to disabled parking thee either when there are no disabled bays left) parking in one of those spots.

I had to get a random stranger to get my car out of a space for me when I couldn't get back in the car, I had parked out of the way and some idiot parked right next to me. I couldn't climb over from the passenger side as I was huge and I had a tiny car.
Use the P & C spaces.

I parked in a P and C space today at the gym as I’m 35 weeks pregnant and my belly is definitely not squashy enough! I am also severely breathless.

Thank you for your views everyone. Seems general consensus is that it’s ok. Which is a massive relief as no matter what I do to avoid being by other cars to give more space I seem to have one of those vehicles people just like to park by.

At your stage of pregnancy you're entitled to a bit of consideration and courtesy so of course you should be able to park there.

Tesco kindly allowed me to use disabled parking when I was recovering from an accident.

I think totally fine to use parent and child spaces while heavily pregnant (even just visually pregnant and struggling). I'm always seeing men without kids parking in those spaces anyway which always annoys me (I have an 8 month old so the space is very useful to open car door wide and put pushchair next to car!)

probstimeforanewname · 16/07/2019 08:45

cars are just bigger these days hence all spaces are too small - imo parking spaces should all just be P&C sized spaces

no, cars need to be smaller and if you choose to drive an oversized one you should pay (more) to park in a larger space. If people drove sensibly sized cars a lot of the issues outlined on this thread would not arise.

Socksontheradiator · 16/07/2019 11:52

Cars are bigger though. Not just big cars like range rovers. Even small cars are wider than they used to be.

My car is tiny, well, slightly wider that a Fiat 500
I did have to use P&C spaces when pregnant due to medical advice of a really damaged pelvis.

But oh boy do I agree. When I lived in America people drove big cars and roads are big, and it was rural and all.
But cars here are ridiculous these days. Unnecessary and impractical for this country. Some people need bigger cars here sure, but the majority don't. They look ridiculous too.

Agreed!

golddustwomen · 16/07/2019 14:01

I would say if there was a few p&c spaces then go for it! But if only 1 or 2 I wouldn't. Getting my 2 and 5 year old dcs out the car and over the car park safely is bloody tough, my children seem to go into crazy mode whenever we enter a supermarket 😂

LadyRannaldini · 16/07/2019 14:04

Any one asks where you child is, just point to your bump and "on board"!

I was threatened with disqualification from a single handed sailing race when I was pregnant, I had another person on board!

mrsk28 · 16/07/2019 15:21

100% park in parent and child spaces. You are a parent and your child is with you!

I always parked in P&C when I was in the last few weeks of pregnancy for the same reason. And people definitely looked at me funny but I didn't care because I couldn't fit in and out otherwise and you then have to waddle to the shop!
