To refuse a scan at 38 weeks?

I'm booked in for a c-section in two days. I have an anterior placenta and a breech baby, and I have a lot of problems with movements due to both of these factors. I had my last growth scan a week ago today, everything was fine, consultant advised no more scans were needed as although I have problems not feeling movements, baby is moving and weighs an estimated healthy 8lbs and no causes for concern. I went in on Wednesday with reduced movements, after not feeling anything for 12 hours and I went in again on Saturday for the same reason. All day Sunday I could feel the movements, and today he's wiggling away again. It just depends on his position whether I feel anything or not.

They've phoned me this morning to come in for a scan in a couple of hours, which is standard procedure after two episodes of reduced movements. I said that I'm happy with his movements today and yesterday, and my section is in two days so I'm happy to pass on the scan. They said I can reject the appointment but it will be against medical advice.

AIBU to reject it? It's DHs last day at work, he's got so much to do he can't come home and take me, so I'd have to drive myself 50 minutes there and back, at 38+4. I've not driven for a week or so now as I'm so huge and uncomfortable. I really don't think babies at risk, it's just the words 'against medical advice' that has made me doubt myself.

If it were me, I'd go.

Justme1981 · 15/07/2019 10:26

Hi I would go too, hopefully all is well but if something did happen you would always regret not going,

MmeBufo · 15/07/2019 10:27

Yes, I'd go. I detest driving and driving whilst heavily pregnant even more so. I understand you wanting to avoid it. Still. GO.

PetrichorRain · 15/07/2019 10:29

I'd go. It's inconvenient and annoying but they've offered the scan for a reason.

Greywalls12 · 15/07/2019 10:29

I'd go

Pinktinker · 15/07/2019 10:29

I would go. I don’t understand your reluctance tbh, it’s for your baby’s safety and well-being. They’re not doing it to purposely inconvenience you, I’d also be pleased the hospital is taking this so seriously.

Bluebelltulip · 15/07/2019 10:29

I would go in too. It may be annoying but better to be checked than not.

Differentcorner · 15/07/2019 10:29

Yes sorry but you are being unreasonable scan can only give a picture at that moment so you need to have your baby checked over. It’s not worth it

Sparkle733 · 15/07/2019 10:30

Definitely go

MuchTooTired · 15/07/2019 10:30

Even though you say you’re happy with his movements, I’d still go for the scan to be on the safe side.

Is there anyone who could drive you up there?

Sciurus83 · 15/07/2019 10:31

Get a taxi, you should go

YouWhoNeverArrived · 15/07/2019 10:31

I'd go. The jeopardy here isn't driving when you're uncomfortable. The jeopardy here is the risk of a stillbirth. Sorry to be so blunt.

AintNobodyHereButUsChickens · 15/07/2019 10:31

Another one here saying to go. I understand it's an inconvenience and pain the arse driving at over 38wks pregnant but it's better safe than sorry!

Benes · 15/07/2019 10:31

You should go. They don't offers scans for no reason.

Moggymorn · 15/07/2019 10:32

Thanks guys. I think it's just because I've had 26 episodes of reduced movements, so I've had a lot of these scans. I feel like I've spent my life driving to and from hospital just to be told "he's fine, it's your placenta" for the 27th time. I've been awake since 3am (no idea why) and I'm exhausted and just can't be bothered. He's moving as normal for the second day and it's just going to be a repeat of the last nearly thirty visits. I will go regardless.. thank god there's only two days left. I'm so done with all this stress and scans!

I would go and I'd take my over night bag in the car as well. They might not send you home.

BazaarMum · 15/07/2019 10:32

Yes I would go, and have gone in similar circumstances. Better to feel a bit uncomfortable and irritated at an ‘unnecessary’ scan, than not go and something happen to your baby. It’s one of those things you just shouldn’t be cavalier about.

Moggymorn · 15/07/2019 10:33

They do a scan every two episodes of reduced movements in my hospital. It's standard procedure so it's not based personally on me to come in for this scan. They're just following procedure

KnittingForMittens · 15/07/2019 10:34

Go.

CardsforKittens · 15/07/2019 10:38

I’m as blasé about health risks as it’s possible to be, but if it were me, I would go. The actual risk may be small, but in the very few cases where something is wrong there can be extremely serious outcomes.

MegaClutterSlut · 15/07/2019 10:39

Without a doubt I would go

Millie2018 · 15/07/2019 10:39

Another one saying I’d go

GabsAlot · 15/07/2019 10:39

No dont bother why would you consider taking medical advice

ffs

Tallgreenbottle · 15/07/2019 10:39

Yabvvvu it is procedure for a reason. Go in!!

fernandoanddenise · 15/07/2019 10:40
