Police Report re Missing Knickers

knickerthief1 · 15/07/2019 08:48

So I recently ordered some period knickers for my daughter off the internet. I ordered 3 pairs from the US and they cost me £21. I paid using Paypal. Eventually the knickers arrived but there was only 1 loose pair of knickers in a brown Jiffy bag. I tried contacting the company and got no reply. I then went to PayPal to raise a dispute. PayPal are now telling me that I have to report this to the police and provide a police report. So AIBU to think that this is absolutely wasting police time to report 2 pairs of knickers missing in the list worth £12! PayPal won't listen....

You could ring 101 and get a CRN.

Whatisinaname1 · 15/07/2019 09:10

Shouldn't the company be doing it? There's nk proof they actually sent them. Why do paypsl need a number fof this?

hadthesnip2 · 15/07/2019 09:25

Absolutely do not involve the police. Complete waste of everyone's time. Just put it down as experience & dont buy stuff online from overseas .

Teddybear45 · 15/07/2019 09:30

Go onto social media and engage both Paypal, Scotland Yard, and Action Fraud - Paypal aren’t following the rules here

NoSauce · 15/07/2019 09:32

Police?!

Why didn’t you pop to Marksies? Confused

Bookworm4 · 15/07/2019 09:33

Seriously? Let it go, it’s a pair of knickers.

knickerthief1 · 15/07/2019 10:26

I really do know I need to let this go but I’m really struggling on point of principle Blush

I'd focus my frustration on leaving bad reviews for the retailer. Who is it?

ThePhoenixRises · 15/07/2019 10:30

You can just report online to get the information you need for the refund.

ETgo · 15/07/2019 10:31

If you did want to get a report without wasting police time go on reportmyloss.com. It’s a police accredited website that lots of insurance companies require customers to obtain a report from.

What sort of period are we talking about ? 18th century knickerbockers or 19th century French knickers

knickerthief1 · 15/07/2019 10:40

And to be clear I think PayPal are crazy saying I need to report it to the police so that isn’t going to happen! I’m just annoyed that they’re even suggesting it!!

OP posts:
HiJenny35 · 15/07/2019 10:42

No you shouldn't let it go. Theft is theft, so is it ok when next time something else worth more is stolen? Report to police online as this will give you a reference number, uses up very little police time as the online reports are checked by sorting centres before being handed over to police departments.

happyhillock · 15/07/2019 10:45

I wouldn't be calling the police what do you expect them to do? Go on a missing knicker hunt, take it up with the company

AdobeWanKenobi · 15/07/2019 10:49

How very odd. Never known Paypal to ask for a Police crime number. Have you made many claims through them in the past?

knickerthief1 · 15/07/2019 11:21

No it’s my first ever claim and I use PayPal a lot which makes it more annoying!! I’ll check out reportmyloss!

QueeniesPotOfRouge · 15/07/2019 11:23

Surely a dispute with a retailer is a civil matter?

AdobeWanKenobi · 15/07/2019 11:33

No it’s my first ever claim

Thats really weird. I'd expect it if you'd made a few claims but for a first it's very strange.
Can I suggest you give them a call

www.paypal.com/uk/smarthelp/contact-us

This is simple, everyday stuff for Paypal so maybe speaking to an actual person will make them realise what a huge waste of resources this is.

pigsDOfly · 15/07/2019 11:49

Like pp I thought this would be a civil matter.

If the police got involved in every internet missing item dispute they'd have no time for anything else.

I wouldn't let this go, paypal have a responsibility.

Trying to imagine the conversation if you phoned the police and reported that someone in the US hasn't sent you the period knickers you ordered for your daughter.

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 15/07/2019 11:52

What sort of period are we talking about ? 18th century knickerbockers or 19th century French knickers

That made me giggle Grin

StinkinDrink · 15/07/2019 11:54

If you made that call to the police I could honestly imagine hearing you as one of the ridiculous callers on '999 what's your emergency?' or a similar programme 🙈

I feel your frustration though, use social media as a good tool to give them bad reviews, other than that I think as PP suggested it might just have to be put down to experience....

knickerthief1 · 15/07/2019 12:10

Haha I've always wanted to be on the TV!! That would be one hell of a claim to fame!

OP posts:
knickerthief1 · 15/07/2019 12:11

The reportmyloss is £5 so I've told PayPal to add it to my claim - await their reply....

LoseLooseLucy · 15/07/2019 12:13

Me too Grin

Tigger365 · 15/07/2019 12:14

Can you not just phone 101, advise what he situation and ask for a crime number? That’s free and is actually reporting a crime.
The company are obviously saying they sent 3 pairs and somewhere along the line someone has stolen 2.
