Why doesn't anybody like her?????

OP posts:
JacquesHammer · 14/07/2019 16:23

50% of MNers channel her.

Zippyx · 14/07/2019 16:25

Now, please ensure you are wearing a shirt. I cannot stand the thought of you not wearing a shirt while I'm speaking to you via my white slimline telephone with last number redial.

And by the way, IT'S BOUQET!!

CitadelsofScience · 14/07/2019 16:27

I love her as much as Margo.

LolaSmiles · 14/07/2019 16:30

I love her.
She is so desperately trying to fit in and be as Waitrose as one could be (if Waitrose were a thing).

I do agree with other posters that some on MN channel the 'how affluent can I appear' thing.

PentreBachCymraeg · 14/07/2019 16:41

Elizabeth, if you could pass round my Royal Doulton with the hand-painted periwinkles...

TeaAddict235 · 14/07/2019 16:41

She cheers me up when I watch the Comedy channel / Dave channel. We all know a Hyacinth Bouquet. We all do. She has given most people of ideas of how to behave.

The Bouquet's residence!

legodisasterzone · 14/07/2019 16:58

‘Our sofa is an exact replica of one at Sandringham House’ 😁
Love Hyacinth. Didn’t the actor who played Richard die recently? 😔

bridgetreilly · 14/07/2019 17:15

It's Hyacinth Bucket not Hyacinth Bouquet. That's the WHOLE POINT of the joke.

Nonnymum · 14/07/2019 17:21

Because she is a terrible snob and cares more about appearances than people and she is so self unaware. I think a real person like her would be she very lacking in confidence because she tries to be someone she is not. I think we dislike her because we see ourselves in her and don't like it.
I love a Richard though. He is lovely and so patient.

CitadelsofScience · 14/07/2019 17:25

lego yes he died this year.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 14/07/2019 17:29

I can't watch it any more because it was one of DH's favourites, and watching things we enjoyed together is still painful. Onslow and Daisy's house scenes were filmed in the house next door to where DH grew up.

PeoniesarePink · 14/07/2019 17:30

Every street has a Hyacinth.

That's why it worked.

I love her - and still love watching the repeats.

Mythreefavouritethings · 14/07/2019 17:34

She would be exhausting. And completely unable to be real, everything about what others think (dropping holiday brochures by the neighbours and hanging out with the major and that moody Councillor Nugent woman). That said, Elizabeth really did need to give her head a wobble. Dropping her cup every time? I think she had more issues.

Ilikesweetpeas · 14/07/2019 17:34

She’s my mother...

Mythreefavouritethings · 14/07/2019 17:34

I possibly need a life....

BogglesGoggles · 14/07/2019 17:35

Well isn’t half of Britain just like her? Hard to hate someone who is just like you?

Whatafackinliberty · 14/07/2019 17:36

50% of mumsnetters probably find her a bit chavvy and common.

CanoeDoYouThinkYouAre · 14/07/2019 17:37

Bridget We are falling on deaf ears here!

"Mrs Bucket"?
"It's pronounced BOUQUET"
Grin

TeaAddict235 · 14/07/2019 18:24

All tight @bridgetreilly , pull yourself together, and have a cup of tea in the Royal Doulton china.

Seriously, the manners these days. No composure some people Wink

FudgeMallowDelight · 16/07/2019 20:43

@AndNoneForGretchenWieners
My late husband used to like it too. We lost him last year. I watched an episode earlier (about Hyacinth's "Outdoors Indoors Luxury Barbecue with finger buffet") that he would have laughed at. It's gutting isn't it.

FudgeMallowDelight · 16/07/2019 20:53

Just realised you can buy t shirts and posters advertising it!

Hyacinth Bouquet
LolaSmiles · 16/07/2019 21:53

I watched the one where she went on the senior citizens trip to the seaside earlier with Mrs Lennox feeling sick in the minibus.

Though one of my favourite moments was the episode with her obsession with telling Richard to do things 'executively' Grin

coolwalking · 16/07/2019 21:59

Just been watching all the episodes - so much fun. Comedy without swearing. It's actually aged pretty well apart from Daddy running around after ladies and the Major/ Commodore episodes.

My favourite line is from Sea Fever (AKA The QE2 episode)

Onslow:
[speaking to Hyacinth] So then, this purser chap came up to the cabin and said we're on the captain's table. And I thought "Blimey!" I mean, you win a competition, you get a luxury cruise, and then they expect you to eat with the crew!

FudgeMallowDelight · 16/07/2019 22:38
Grin The neighbour Elizabeth only ever seemed to do one expression, "terrified, staring eyes"
MadamWaffle · 16/07/2019 22:56

My mum is Hyacinth Bucket!
