DH’s cricket set up

Apparently the only acceptable way to watch cricket is with the television image but the radio commentary. Unsure what is wrong with the TV commentary. However due to the way he's set up our ridiculously overcomplicated ‘home entertainment system’ he needs my laptop to do this. I am permanently hooked up to a breast pump or a baby and was looking forward to a Netflix afternoon in bed. He thinks IBU because it’s the World Cup final and England are in it. I think HIBU because I’ve just had twins.

We are a cricket household. Well I say we but I mean DH and two teens are. They are welcome to watch tv but listen to radio commentary (which they always do) but not at my expense!

I would be more than livid if I couldn't choose what to do while they are watching the final, but in your case OP he is being completely outrageous. It's quite boring at the moment, get him to sort it out before England go in to bat.

SmallPinkBear · 14/07/2019 14:23

Have you not got a radio he can use? I would definitely agree that the TMS commentary is far superior to Sky’s

Chesntoots · 14/07/2019 14:29

It's the only way to watch / listen to cricket!

He is a being selfish though...

CalmerComber · 14/07/2019 14:38

He put his phone through the wash yesterday. Dickhead. I have VVVVV generously given him my phone in exchange for the laptop now. However he now has to resync the feeds and I am apparently not suitable impressed at his skillz in doing this complicated audio wizardry.

We have a similar setup. I am giving a free pass because usually I get to watch the “big TV” in the lounge and DP watches sport in the spare room.

INeedAFlerken · 14/07/2019 14:40

Your Dh sounds like a selfish arse.

Tell him he can watch the tv with the regular tv presenters or in silence. You're keeping your damn laptop ... since you're clearly on twin baby duty as well while he has a tv day.

MaybeitsMaybelline · 14/07/2019 14:49

Yanbu, he should have gone to Argos this morning at 10 and bought a radio. I mean they start at 3.99

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 14/07/2019 14:54

I don't have the radio and the tv synchronised, which did make that last interview a bit weird with a 2 second delay between the picture and sound! I can see why he wants it all linked up.

I think if you're not going to watch the cricket it's fair enough for you to have your laptop. Congratulations on the twins. Smile

(I don't think he's meaning to be selfish though, just maybe a bit thoughtless — if you're a cricket fan, this is such an exciting day so I can see why he wants the perfect setup. Netflix is always there...)

Sandsnake · 14/07/2019 14:59

He’s right. But you trump him, definitely! From an avid cricket fan.

gabsdot · 14/07/2019 15:05

My dad does this but he uses an actual radio.

AcrossthePond55 · 14/07/2019 15:06

My dad did this 50 + years ago to watch baseball. But he used a small transistor radio with earphones so he couldn't hear anything else. Audio feed is much more detailed in its play by play announcing.

He was also known to watch one game on tv and listen to a different one on the radio. And keep perfect track of both of them!

DorothyParkersCat · 14/07/2019 15:15

I'm doing the same as your DH. England have just started batting and only need to get 242 runs. They could actually do this. England could actually win the World Cup.

nokidshere · 14/07/2019 15:20

The NZ innings was a tad boring. Hopefully it will gain a bit more momentum the closer to 241 England get (assuming they do get close of course)

BubblesBuddy · 14/07/2019 15:24

Radio is way more fun. This competition is one day in 4 years and England have a chance of winning. Just let him have his fun, his way. TMS is the best and no adverts! British Grand Prix is full of action and so is Wimbledon: manic Sunday in this house!

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 14/07/2019 15:51

I didn’t know you can’t enjoy a massive sporting event without being labelled as a selfish person who doesn’t care for their children.

You absolutely can. Or at least most people can. You just can’t be a selfish dickhead and expect not to be labelled as one. They’re the ones that give the rest of us a bad name.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 14/07/2019 15:53

Yabu.

It happens once every 4 years.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 14/07/2019 16:01

I think calling him a selfish dockhead is a bit harsh — OP explained that actually, she wanted to use the laptop and he gave it to her.

She might have dozed or read, or come and watched with him and not needed it.

Tallgreenbottle · 14/07/2019 16:02

Tell him to get tunein on his phone. Job done. Tell him to shove off.

Serin · 14/07/2019 16:10

Can he not put the radio on through Alexa or an Amazon dot thingy? Or his phone?
DH has actually turned our radio off as it's not properly synced with the TV coverage.
Congratulations on your twins.

SquigglePigs · 14/07/2019 16:29

I was with him up to him using your source of entertainment to do it. Yes the radio commentary is better but given the only way for him to do it is to deprive you then he just needs to suck it up (and I say this as a breastfeeding cricket fan!).

GemmeFatale · 14/07/2019 17:00

I’d have given him the laptop and the twins and gone out for a few hours.

BlueSkiesLies · 14/07/2019 17:01

YANBU

he can use his phone for the radio commentary

BackforGood · 14/07/2019 21:49

What rain?? There is no rain. I'm sat watching it right now. There is no rain. So confused by these comments.

In my defence, I sat down to watch on TV at about half past one, having been told it would be on Channel 4. It wasn't (they'd got the F1 on). So I opened up BBC Sport, and it said 'rained off' . Confused. How very very odd.

However, WHAT a finish! Grin

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 14/07/2019 22:01

They had the contract for the F1 first. So they moved the cricket to More4 at that point, then switched it back after the F1. No idea about the BBC Sport though! Confused

LadyRannaldini · 15/07/2019 00:22

Totally agree about the radio commentary, it's far superior tothe TV, I know a number of people who do this, for other sporting events as well!
