DH’s cricket set up

Apparently the only acceptable way to watch cricket is with the television image but the radio commentary. Unsure what is wrong with the TV commentary. However due to the way he's set up our ridiculously overcomplicated ‘home entertainment system’ he needs my laptop to do this. I am permanently hooked up to a breast pump or a baby and was looking forward to a Netflix afternoon in bed. He thinks IBU because it’s the World Cup final and England are in it. I think HIBU because I’ve just had twins.

So a bunch of men playing a game and hitting little balls with bits of wood is, to him, not important right now than you and his child...

Nice..

Ginnymweasley · 14/07/2019 13:48

What rain?? There is no rain. I'm sat watching it right now. There is no rain. So confused by these comments.

TarragonSauce · 14/07/2019 13:50

He is quite right, but the only radio that should be used is a handheld battery operated AM transistor radio with slightly crackly sound.
My boss in the 1980s used to climb out of his office window and sit on a concrete parapet overlooking St James's Park with his little cricket radio whilst I sat at my desk fielding all-comers "sorry, he's in do not disturb mode as he's working on the Very Important Presentation".

K1ssIt · 14/07/2019 13:52

I wouldn't be bothered about the set up itself. I know it's a big deal for cricket fans and I know the radio is better commentary to many.

Saying that, I would be bothered that he didn't stop the think to organise a way to do this that didn't involve taking his wife's device off her and leaving it until so close to the event to tell her he wants her laptop. Add in the breast feeding twins and it makes him even more selfish,

I genuinely do understand the big deal, which is why it's daft he hasn't sorted himself out to do this without making you alone in a room with breastfeeding twins to stare at four walls.

If I was feeling kind then I may give him my phone to download a radio playing app (assuming the reason he needs your laptop is because he doesn't have a modern phone to this on his own) but he wouldn't be taking my laptop.

starzig · 14/07/2019 13:54

Radio commentary might be better but it's YOUR laptop. Reclaim it now. My DH would never even touch my laptop.

Bluebluered · 14/07/2019 13:57

I have really enjoyed this WC, and the games have been brilliant. Even went to watch a few. I didn’t know you can’t enjoy a massive sporting event without being labelled as a selfish person who doesn’t care for their children. Really stupid. One day of cricket doesn’t mean you’re an unfit parent.

And there is no rain, so also confused by these comments. The match was delayed by 15mins because of rain over night Confused

SimonJT · 14/07/2019 13:58

He’s right, the radio is much better and it is the only acceptable way to watch cricket.

mynameiscalypso · 14/07/2019 13:58

I'm confused about the rain comments too; I live about 3 mins away from Lords and it's not raining here!

howwudufeel · 14/07/2019 13:59

I love the posters who come on and accuse people of not loving their dc because they want to watch sport Grin

Rivkka · 14/07/2019 14:00

YABU - cricket's coming homeeeeeeeee

Ginnymweasley · 14/07/2019 14:00

My dd might agree with those posters as I turned the tv over from kids channels this morning. She didn't talk to me for about 1t5mins which for her might actually be a record. Worth it on so many levels

K1ssIt · 14/07/2019 14:00

What rain?? There is no rain. I'm sat watching it right now. There is no rain. So confused by these comments.

Googling the match has the top results say it's delayed due to rain but its articles from a few hours ago. I'm assuming a few posters might have googled it and assumed it's referring to to the match now and not three hours maybe.

howwudufeel · 14/07/2019 14:02

I am listening on TMS and it’s definitely not raining.
I love cricket even though it’s just people hitting little balls with bits of wood. Does that mean I don’t love my dc?

Bluebluered · 14/07/2019 14:02

I live about 3 mins away from Lords and it's not raining here!

Glorious stealth boast there! 😂😂

stucknoue · 14/07/2019 14:04

I get it, same here tms is best, though we have a digital radio so I have my laptop! We also have phones with tennis and an iPad with the Grand Prix, serious multi tasking!!!

LannieDuck · 14/07/2019 14:05

Your laptop. He can do what he wants with the rest of it.

mynameiscalypso · 14/07/2019 14:06

Haha @Bluebluered, you would not say that if you could see the tip of a flat I live in! 😂

LeglessGiraffe · 14/07/2019 14:06

I'm very confused about the rain too! It's not raining in the game I'm watching?! And TMS is vastly superior to TV commentary but he still doesn't have the right to deprive you of Netflix when you're breastfeeding.

ZeldaPrincessOfHyrule · 14/07/2019 14:07

Your DH is right about the radio commentary. His set-up is what we've got going on too, only our radio is coming through the Sonos. DH had to pause the tv by teeny increments until it matched up perfectly with the radio commentary. He's very proud of himself for that one Grin

Where he's BU is that you've got no other entertainment. If you can't watch Netflix on your phone, get him to put the radio on his phone, so you can have your laptop for Netflix. That's only fair.

luckylavender · 14/07/2019 14:08

TV & radio always better for cricket.

Bluebluered · 14/07/2019 14:09

Haha @Bluebluered, you would not say that if you could see the tip of a flat I live in! 😂

😂 okay!

CanYouHearThePeopleSing · 14/07/2019 14:13

We've got TV pics and radio commentary, but surely he can just have the commentary from his phone? He'd need to sort out the syncing between the 2, but that's not hard. Monopolising a laptop is definitely not on though.

Oldraver · 14/07/2019 14:15

Get him to download the TalkSport app...then he can listen to them wiffle waffle on about the cricket

Piggywaspushed · 14/07/2019 14:17

Confused by rain comments too!! The start was slightly delayed.

I am also confused as to why he can't get radio on his phone.

midsomermurderess · 14/07/2019 14:22

By far the best way to enjoy cricket. Tv and TMS on the radio.
