I didn’t vote for Brexit in 2017!!!!

I am pig sick of hearing that 80% of the population voted for Brexit.

My vote in 2017 was for the candidate most likely to beat the sitting Tory MP.

So fed up hearing that 80% of us voted for a Brexit party in the 2017 GE.

I didn't either , the referendum was in 2016

aLilNonnyMouse · 12/07/2019 19:23

No one did. There wasn't a referendum that year.

campion · 12/07/2019 19:23

Op is talking about the General Election

themmatricc · 12/07/2019 19:27

no we as a country did you idiot both labour and conservative manifestos said as much

bellinisurge · 12/07/2019 19:29

The fading electoral fortunes of both the Tories and Labour is reflected in their increasingly pathetic claim that Brexit supporters voted for them in 2017.
Every election since has shown that people for and against Brexit are not cool need by this and vote for the Brexit Party loons or for Lib Dems/SNP/Plaid

bellinisurge · 12/07/2019 19:30

cool need? conned!

campion · 12/07/2019 19:31

The Brexit Party has only existed since January this year though Farage has been stirring things for much longer.

MyOpinionIsValid · 12/07/2019 19:31

Oh the GE Hmm well 80% didn't vote period, the turnout was 68.7%. the last time we had a 80% or more turn out was 1951.

Justaboutdone · 12/07/2019 19:36

I would have voted Lib Dem’s in the GE but they had not changed in our constituency. So it was with a heavy heart I voted Labour (Not a Corbyn fan)

And the Tories continue to use this argument to say the population support Brexit.

Maybe they do, who knows but I would suggest the number is a lot lower than the 80% of votes who chose Labour / Tory in 2017.

The MP you vote for is standing for a particular party. It's that particular party's manifesto that will determine what laws & issues become statute. Both Labour & Conservatives said in their manifestos that they support leaving the EU & following through on the vote the year before.

Doesn't really matter what your MP believes or wants. That's what is so frustrating & un democratic about it all. Hundreds of MP's voting against Brexit (Dominic Grieve being one of the biggest culprits) when they stand under their party's banner that promised to leave.

Cheats & charlatans

Snowy111 · 12/07/2019 19:53

I completely agree! I voted labour to try to scupper Brexit, but my vote didn’t count because it’s safe Tory - labour was second placed and the only chance to not have a Tory win - didn’t work though. Although Brexit still hasn't happened so maybe it did work!

Sugartits2012 · 12/07/2019 20:02

Yes same I voted labour to save the NHS, it was nothing to do with brexit.

ChocChocButtons · 12/07/2019 20:06

I didn’t vote to leave in 2017 I voted to leave in 2016

ChocChocButtons · 12/07/2019 20:07

I’ll vote Tory forever. As long as it keeps the lousy left out.

ContinuityError · 12/07/2019 20:08

The Brexit Party has only existed since January this year though Farage has been stirring things for much longer.

It’s a UKIP rebrand (and a money spinner for Farage).

The MP you vote for is standing for a particular party. It's that particular party's manifesto that will determine what laws & issues become statute.

Err, no. Manifesto commitments are not binding.

Justaboutdone · 12/07/2019 20:09

@ChocChocButtons so even you as a Leaver did not vote for Brexit in 2017............

Yet your party continually states that as fact

I voted Green in the EU Elections. I'm a card carrying member of the Labour Party (if they find out, I'll be expelled.)

I did it because that fucking little piece of shit who leads my party (yes, mine, not his) refused to adopt party policy of remain.

I will not resign from the party I've supported all my adult life. He is as transient as Blair. I'm in it for the long run.

Our only possible future lies with europe. Where the hell else can we go? We cannot shift our country elsewhere.

Don't give me the "sovrentry"" shit. My name is not Yaxley Lennon

Yes, I'm angry, if you are not, you are not paying attention

Justaboutdone · 12/07/2019 20:10

You tend not to agree with every point in a manifesto.

Your vote is for the MP / party who are a best fit for your beliefs.

80% of people voted for parties who respected the referendum and were willing to go ahead with Brexit.

Stripyhoglets · 12/07/2019 20:11

I'm with you. It's bloody infuriating. I voted Labour as if we are going to have the catastrophe that is Brexit I'd rather have a party in power who won't sell the NHS to America.

jasjas1973 · 12/07/2019 20:13

I’ll vote Tory forever. As long as it keeps the lousy left out

Gone sooooooooooooooooo well under the far right tories hasn't?

It wasn't a single issue GE in 2017, people voted lab/con/LD etc for a variety of reasons or none.

Bear in mind the 2017 GE was just 2 years after the previous one because the Cons didn't like that result and tried to get a better one lol!

Stripyhoglets · 12/07/2019 20:13

User 1471 - I hear you - I'm with you - and voted Lib Dem in the EUs.

ChocChocButtons · 12/07/2019 20:25

The right always have to come in and clean up after the left and make difficult decisions.

They may not always get it right but I’d rather a Tory government over a left wing one anyway!

Justaboutdone · 12/07/2019 20:27

ChocChocButtons I very much disagree.....
