AIBU to send a sympathy card to the neighbours tree

Shade from the sun, shelter from the storm
You reached your branches, to the summer morn
You shared your fruit with the grasping world
You shed your leaves as autumn unfurled

But they did not care, those murdering turds
That you gave a home to the bees and birds
Struck down in your prime, brutally slain
You wept silent tears in your sorrow and pain

For they did not care, as they took up the axe
And grinned as they swung, and started to hack
They did not see - Natures Majesty
As they, hellbent upon their travesty

But now, another life has died
And Mankind laughed while Our Earth cried.

This thread is barking.

Teacakeandalatte · 10/07/2019 09:21

Love the thought of OP embroidering "murdering turds"on a cushion.
Stick to venting your feelings in private OP thats fine and its nice that you care about nature so much, but you will cross the line into crazy if you send it.

ErrolTheDragon · 10/07/2019 09:30

This thread is barking.

And I'm not sure it's got to the root of the problem, I think the OP may have logged off.

KurriKurri · 10/07/2019 09:31

Cut out everything except 'murdering Turds' - write that on a note and pop it through their door, you could also take along a plate of brownies and a card saying 'welcome to the neighbourhood'

But seriously - they cut it down with an axe ?? They must be still there hacking away ineffectively even while you write your unusual poetry.

00100001 · 10/07/2019 09:44

I think the OP needs to branch out a bit more in her creative endevaours...

IhateBoswell · 10/07/2019 09:49

Leaf the puns out folks.

00100001 · 10/07/2019 09:50

i do love the irony of sending a chopped down tree a sympathy card....

Procrastination4 · 10/07/2019 09:51

Well I’m going to be the sensitive poster that leaves OP alone to think about her perceived problem until she twigs that there may be a sensible reason for the removal of tree...

00100001 · 10/07/2019 09:51

boswell she's clearly pining and needs releaf.

Procrastination4 · 10/07/2019 09:52

See what I did TWICE there, Boswell?Wink

HeronLanyon · 10/07/2019 09:52

But as a budding poet op is surely not just throwing shade - she’s exploring the flowering of her talent. A root and branch overhaul of her core being.

Unshriven · 10/07/2019 09:53

What is it with the sudden outbreak of toe curling rhymes on here lately?

The 'imaginary single mother' one was bad, now sentimental clap trap about a tree.

Just introduce yourself and ask if there was something wrong with the tree, like a normal person.

summerofladybird · 10/07/2019 09:55

Just introduce yourself and ask if there was something wrong with the tree, like a normal person.

If she did that would she be turning over a new leaf?

00100001 · 10/07/2019 09:56

DOES NOBODY ELSE SEE THE IRONY OF SENDING A DEAD TREE A CARD?

OP is proposing to send a sympathy card to a TREE. A card saying how terrible it is the tree is dead...written on card.... card ... made of DEAD TREES!

... just me??

IhateBoswell · 10/07/2019 09:56

🎉OP is proposing to send a sympathy card to a TREE. A card saying how terrible it is the tree is dead...written on card.... card ... made of DEAD TREES!

Grin

What’s with all the dreadful poetry in the last couple of days? Confused

colourlessgreenidea · 10/07/2019 10:14

They grinned as they swung their axe. Really? Are you suggesting they are sadistic tree murderers who chopped the tree down for pleasure?

Of course. They were twiddling their twirly moustaches whilst laughing demonically too. Damn those evil cartoon villains AngryAngryAngry

DoneLikeAKipper · 10/07/2019 10:19

Grin @00100001 - obviously in this day and age it should be an email, or a Facebook post. Can @aliasname make a FB page for the tree, then tag it in with the... wonderful and sensitive poem?

Enclume · 10/07/2019 10:29

I am loving the doggerel posts... and the "but cards are made from dead trees" observation. Like a token sent from a serial killer. What a sick fuck OP must be.

Btw... to the poster on page one... "murdering turds" is assonant, not alliterative.

aliasname · 10/07/2019 10:31

Oh these responses have been brilliant and really cheered me up! I know IWBU and was a bit drunk when I wrote the poem. It did help get it out of my system, and I wouldn’t really send it.

No, I didn’t trespass to ‘fondle a stump’ Grin the tree was on the edge of the garden not next to the house. However I hadn’t considered that the roots might have affected drains, so thank you for pointing that out. And someone also mentioned that a new neighbour may have got a proper survey done, so again thanks to those who made helpful replies.

Bit disappointed at all the criticisms of my poetry though - I’m going to have to stump up for a creative writing course...

Criticism can be galling.

BadLad · 10/07/2019 10:43

"I’m going to have to stump up for a creative writing course"

Good one.

JammieCodger · 10/07/2019 10:52

Ha. Nicely done, OP.

ChihuahuaMummy1 · 10/07/2019 10:52

Sent this Op

I've nothing to do but think about your tree
For me this is a necessity

So please take note that I think you are shits
This has aggravated me quite a bit

You see it's none of business what you to do to your garden
But I'm a nosey fucker and a little bit barking

purplecorkheart · 10/07/2019 11:00

For all you know the tree was doing damage to pipes/foundations etc. Some trees roots spread like mad.

The poem makes you sound unhinged.
