Shade from the sun, shelter from the storm
You reached your branches, to the summer morn
You shared your fruit with the grasping world
You shed your leaves as autumn unfurled

But they did not care, those murdering turds
That you gave a home to the bees and birds
Struck down in your prime, brutally slain
You wept silent tears in your sorrow and pain

For they did not care, as they took up the axe
And grinned as they swung, and started to hack
They did not see - Natures Majesty
As they, hellbent upon their travesty

But now, another life has died
And Mankind laughed while Our Earth cried.

My husband is a tree surgeon with a city council. He has planted more trees than he'll ever take down due to a stint with Forestry. Almost every single day he gets sworn at, spat on, verbally abused by stupid tree hugging types who know less about trees than he's forgotten.
If there were nests in that tree it was illegally taken down and that's worth reporting but it could have been unsafe for so many reasons. My bet would be root spread which could lead to subsidence at their...or your...home.
PS your poetry is crap.

SD1978 · 10/07/2019 01:57

@Tillygetsit - that amazes me that people treat him that way. Must be tough being abused for doing your job when no one has the details of why you're doing your job.

Your "murdering turds" is delightfully alliterative but is rather at odds with the grandiloquence of the rest of your poem alias!

YWBU to send the poem but I think the sentiments that inspired it are perfectly sound and reasonable. The planet would be in better shape if more people 'hugged trees' Smile

legolimb · 10/07/2019 02:01

It's a tree.

Please do not send your poem.

SummerPlace · 10/07/2019 02:11

I have had a very large tree fall on my house. I actually watched it fall, realising where it was going to ultimately end up, through the large windows at the back of my house. It seemed to take about five minutes to fall. To the naked eye there was absolutely nothing wrong with the tree.

I might sound horrible saying it, but I wished I'd got it before it got me.

BadLad · 10/07/2019 02:23

This bit doesn't make sense.

If you send it, it will just be an amusing "mad neighbour" story for them to tell their friends in future.

AngrySquid · 10/07/2019 02:23

Do it,
I’m pretty sure they’ll send a restraining order as response! 😂😂😂

LauderSyme · 10/07/2019 02:30

At the very least they'll probably keep it and laugh over it with their friends.

SD1978 · 10/07/2019 02:42

I'm disappointed OP hasn't replied in a while. Hope someone wasn't bored and trolling.......

summerofladybird · 10/07/2019 03:07

Are you Paula Nancy millstone Jennings ?

lboogy · 10/07/2019 03:21

The humourless have come out. Do it OP

cranstonmanor · 10/07/2019 08:34

You don't even know why they did it though. We are the new neighbours in the street and seriously thinking of chopping down three trees in front of our house. Those trees really are such a part of the look and feel of the street, and are so lovely that we don't want to. They can't fall on the house, are healthy. But their roots are starting to wreck the plumbing pipes under the street. It would also be a shame if nobody further up in the street could use their toilets anymore....

MyOpinionIsValid · 10/07/2019 08:36

Not another thread about your neighbours. Hmm

Bluntness100 · 10/07/2019 08:40

Seriously? You actually hug trees?

I'd assume it was taken down as the roots were damaging the property. The fact the previous owners didn't doesn't remotely show it wasn't problematic,

Honestly go wash your hands and stop being silly.

NoSauce · 10/07/2019 08:44

The tree was in their garden right OP? Did it have some kind of sentimental value to you? Seems a bit dramatic tbh.

HeronLanyon · 10/07/2019 08:49

I too am a member of the woodland trust and also if the raison. I find trees to be beautiful, magnificent sometimes, really important for us.
I find your poem fine for a private way of getting your feelings out. As a public expression or god forbids to send to them it’s awful !!

I do think a tree is of interest to surrounding neighbours. If ever I were taking one down for good reason (and at the right time of year) and with permission where necessary and if not subject to tpo etc etc) I would do course drop note through affected neighbours to explain why and also let know of noise etc. Of course it is other people’s business!

Currently in discussions with three neighbours in property I’m selling re how to prune/reshape tree come September - if still not completed - one foot here or there can have mega effect on privacy/shade etc which I might not realise from my perspective.

HeronLanyon · 10/07/2019 08:49

Rspb not raisin ! !?

MindyStClair · 10/07/2019 08:51

I want this poem embroidered on a cushion - murdering turds indeed Grin

I don’t think you should send it, but I’d love it if you did.

StillCoughingandLaughing · 10/07/2019 08:56

@StillCoughingandlaughing Most would assume it could relate to another post perhaps. Are you pissed or just aggressive?

I can’t imagine why most would assume that. Nothing in any of the OPs posts suggests that. In fact, most haven’t assumed it and if most (i.e. you) did, looks like they were wrong, doesn’t it dearie?

NomDeQwerty · 10/07/2019 08:56

Make sure you send a copy to the tree guys at your local council too.
Spread the joy.

GruciusMalfoy · 10/07/2019 09:01

Sure, send it! They'll probably get a great laugh out of it.

MayorPrentiss · 10/07/2019 09:05

Surely sending a card to a tree is tasteless? What if the tree that card was made from was a friend of your neighbours' tree? Would you send sympathy fingernails to a human? YABU. Send sympathy manure or something tree friendly instead.

alreadytaken · 10/07/2019 09:12

Yes, YABU. I've planted quite a few trees, I've also had one with a TPO that had to have branches removed and another that had to be pollarded.

If there garden is big enough buy and gift them a nice new tree that they can plant somewhere suitable.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 10/07/2019 09:17

Bastarding murdering twaty turds.

Hire a projector and project it onto their house.

Or type and glue to their car windows.
