He was unbelievable tonight at ORNC. Encore was A Town called Malice. I am on such a high after that.

What, the knobfather?
Saw the jam twice with a friend who was desperate to go.
Pretended to faint the second time just to get out of there

ClashCityRocker · 08/07/2019 20:21

Saw him at Dalby Forest last weekend...great performance at a great venue.

Loved hearing Man In The Corner shop and That's Entertainment.

Jellykat · 08/07/2019 20:32

Seen him 5 times, he's a god in my eyes.
The energy and passion he has is phenomenal, his quieter songs like 'English rose' have me in bits everytime.

LauraMontreville · 08/07/2019 20:34

OP - your enthusiasm is infectious Smile glad you had a great time.

I've just spent a happy half hour listening to the Jam - the two songs mentioned by @ClashCityRocker were my favourites in my youth! I'm only a bit younger than The Modfather himself

MissRainbowBrite · 08/07/2019 20:36

Saw him at Cannock Chase on Saturday night and he was fab. I only know the more well known tracks but he was a great performer. A great outdoor show.

Aliiiii · 08/07/2019 20:38

I've lost count of how many times I've seen him
He's a god in my eyes

HariboLectar · 08/07/2019 20:43

I've seen him live once, I was so, so excited to be going. I left feeling deflated, one of the most boring gigs I've been too 😫

Jojoanna · 08/07/2019 20:47

Seen him live many times ,, he’s great

Supergirlthesecond · 08/07/2019 21:41

See, now I’m feeling the love.Smile

@LauraMontreville that’s a well spent half hour

I wish I could upload the video I have from last night of the encore. You'd hear the crowd singing along but Wellers voice still dominates. I cannot believe at 50 odd he was as energetic as he was. That show was long and he punched out some serious tunes. Did I mention he did ATCM???!!

I saw The Jam loads of times in the 70s - supporting The Clash, supporting The Stranglers etc. They always seemed so earnest. I found them quite meh compared to some of the other bands around then

OccidentalPurist · 08/07/2019 22:41

I was completely indifferent to The Jam when I was in my early teens, but was kinda blown away by The Style Council.

It is odd that he hasn't achieved the legend status that less prolific artists like the Gallaghers and Johnny Marr have, but I've heard quite a few obnoxious rumours over the years that I think have unfortunately put paid to that.

Starlive23 · 08/07/2019 22:44

I met Paul Weller at Drayton Manor a few years ago! He was so nice I was really surprised. Just shoehorning in my one and only claim to fame there...

OccidentalPurist · 08/07/2019 22:45

I also never fancied him the way many of my peers did - just didn't get why he was thought of as so sexy, he always looked to me like someone who'd fold his underwear before sex!

LauraMontreville · 08/07/2019 22:48

No one can be more obnoxious than the Gallagher twits! It's simply not possible.

Supergirlthesecond · 08/07/2019 22:53

@OccidentalPurist have you had your eyes checked? :-)

His face shows his life now - very craggy but looked quite lean. He introduced his daughter and gave her a kiss at the end. She sang beautifully.

Oh, it was so good.

I think I need to go and Google recent interviews with him now!!

Ferfeckssake · 08/07/2019 23:51

Occidental Purist I agree, left indifferent by The Jam but loved Style Council.
But , always thought he was super sexy . Looks like he would shag you , but be looking very cool .

LauraMontreville · 09/07/2019 05:55

The man could be the inspiration for several AIBU threads!
He's got 8 kids by 4 different women! I read an interview where he said he had them all privately educated because he didn't want them sounding like AliG Confused Yes, Paul, all comprehensive school kids talk like AliG.

And he was 52 when he met his current wife who was 26.

And his kids are called StevieMac, Bowie and Nova.

You just have to separate the man from his art ...

Davros · 09/07/2019 08:27

One of his kids went to the same school as DD, I used to see him picking up. He drove a Mini natch

MumMumMumMumMumMum · 09/07/2019 09:01

Actually Laura, they met in 2005 when he was 47 and she was 20. That’s 14 years,
Married 9 years and have 3 children called John Paul, Bowie and Nova. Also, the first two went to state schools and the youngest 3 are home educated ..... but don’t let facts get in the way, eh?

LauraMontreville · 09/07/2019 11:32

Ok, not a 26 year age gap, a 27 year one Hmm
His AliG comments were made in an interview in The Telegraph

When I ask what he spends his money on he rolls his eyes. 'School fees…' He had qualms about it at first, but all his children have been educated at private schools. Where he lives is not exactly the worst part of London, he says, but the local comprehensives were never an option. 'I don't want my kids coming home speaking like Ali G - I'm just not having it.' In addition to Natt and Leah, Weller has a daughter, Dylan, 11, by a short-lived relationship, and a daughter Jessie, six, and son, Mac, with his partner of the past 10 years, Sammi - 12 years his junior - whom Weller met when he was recording at the Manor studios, where she was working

It was published in 2008, shortly before he left Sammi for Hannah who (on checking my facts) was 23 and he was 50. They have indeed had twins and a daughter - born when Paul was 59.

Like I said, a life worthy of many an AIBU thread.

PolkadotLollipop · 09/07/2019 11:36

He’s a creepy old rocker, like most of them but his music is good.

TheChain · 09/07/2019 11:38

I’m a bit in love with Paul Weller so I’m mega jealous ❤️
