My mother insists I was terrified of the Chef from Sesame Street as a toddler, I would howl whenever he appeared on screen.

I was also petrified by the 2ft Bugs Bunny my brother bought me.

A few years later, it was the Gorgs from Fraggle Rock. I seem to have got over that fear though, my fella resembles a blond one slightly.

Was anybody else round here equally odd?

Car washes.
Men with beards.
Whisky distilleries.

don't like beards much either

High level toilets - the ones where the cistern is mounted up on the wall.

I think I was scared it would fall off on me when I pulled the chain. Still hate them.

Maleficent from Sleeping Beauty. Scared the living shite out of me. Still does if I'm honest.

I was terrified, absolutely terrified, of cesare Borgia when I was about 4. If I was naughty my parents would say 'cesare Borgia will come and get you!!!'

I think it's because there was a telly program on at the time called the Borgia's, my mum and dad used to talk about it and I remember Cesare being described as 'the prince of darkness' - I just became obsessed ......

@Blueuggboots bloody love whisky distilleries. The smell ❤️. Maybe because I was brought up living at one x

Father Christmas. Hated the idea of some man I didn't know coming into my bedroom in the middle of the night. My parents told me the truth about father christmas when I was about 6.

Balloons, but I still am. Also a non existent hole in my Nans front room. I fell when younger and they convinced me I had created a hole. Covered it with a rug and I just didn’t go there for ages after.

Not me, but my mum told me that she was terrified when reading Five Go to Smuggler's Top, when Sooty hides from the signaller coming down the tower stairs.

Flip flops. Nobody in my family ever wore them, so they were an unknown quantity. I thought they had a silly name, I didn't like the sound they made, I saw children losing them when they ran, a single one being swept out to sea by a big wave, and I heard a mum shout to her child "put your flip flops on!!!". I was glad she wasn't giving me such an order! As a teenager, I shuddered when Geri Halliwell mentioned being punished with one by her mum.

The toilet flush in my Nan's house. It was so loud, I'd run back terrified to my bed.

origamiunicorn · 14/07/2019 08:21

Also, the villain from Who Framed Roger Rabbit. Especially the bit where he gets flattened by a steam roller.

I was terrified of the opening titles to Casualty in the early 90s.

Beards...
Was petrified of my Uncle Gordon and his huge bushy ginger beard. Think it was not being able to see a mouth underneath it all. 😱
