Cat ate a mouse

Sorry this isn't an AIBU but posting here for traffic.
I am watching my friends cats and one of them brought a mouse into the house. The cat had eaten about half the mouse. Do I need to take the cat to see a vet? If not is there any signs I should look out for?
I tried to check google but was getting very conflicting information.

Are people assuming cats historically caught mice and then just left them while waiting for a person to turn up with a can of cat food?!

They evolved catching live prey and eating it. The species wouldn't have survived if they didn't eat what they caught!

Vet and I were talking about cats' diet and vet said "the best food for cats is mouse". All the fibre and protein they need is right there, in just the right portion size. Plus vegetable matter from the stomach contents, but it appears some cats are even more vegetable-averse than DS, who knew Shock Grin

If brought in as a gift you have to show enthusiasm or it will go out hunting for something bigger and a more impressive catch thinking you were not suitably impressed

@YesQueen
Oh wow. She seems one of those famous cats where the stories about them live well past their own lifetimes.
My Gran had one of those as a child, the cat was dead for half of a century already but I grew up listening about his antics, there was a never ending supply of stories. Thinking about it mow, it might have even been her own gran's cat. Grin

I honestly don't know how some people function in the world. A cat, a carnivore and hunter, does exactly what carnivorous animals do... And they run to mumsnet to ask if it's safe!
They used to keep cats in prisons and on ships to kill the rodents. House cats used to be kept to hunt rodents. They were a practical pet. That's what they do.

Long before I had my dc my dog was my baby. When he first ate a mouse I rang the vets to ask if he'd get some awful disease, I was really worried!

Mine are all hunters (we have 4) but even the lazy one comes back with 2 mice at a time swinging from her mouth. I think the mice must be stupid as she's definitely not fast.

The frog was a low point though. It hid under one of the cupboards and took ages to get it out.

And last week the small one decimated a blackbird in the front room. She left the beak and the feet.

I work in a supported living house looking after 14 adults with learning disabilities and the neighbor's cat there keeps bringing half dead mice in through our window - cue shouts of "anothernotherone there's a corpse in the kitchen!" any random time of the day or night, but always at the most awkward moment when I'm helping someone shower or sorting out medication or on the phone to a resident's parent or doctor!

I think it's because a colleague feeds the cat inside the house when she's on shift, I wish she couldn't!

my darling tabby terrors tally this week is one shrew, 2 mice and 3 baby birds he even left just the head on the patio for me to clear up, out of four of them he is the only one on a mission to clear our area of anything edible that walks or flys and he thinks spiders and flys are boiled sweets

When we first got our cats (two sisters) 14 years ago I didn't know they did this and one morning 'my' cat made such a fuss meowing I had to find out what she was whinging about - she had brought a field mouse in for me. Lovely
Night before my wedding her sister (who NEVER brought things in), came in with a live frog in her mouth. That was an interesting one to get rid of at 11.30pm!!!
We only have one of the two original cats left now and she spends most of her time sleeping or whinging for cuddles/wet food. Our two new cats (again sisters) have discovered the joy of bringing little presents to us - the most recent of which being a medium sized bird who must have put up a good fight as there was blood all over my, luckily laminate, living room floor. That was a nice surprise when we got back from shopping i can tell you

Unpleasant, but surely a car eating a mouse is the most natural thing they can eat?
