Cat ate a mouse

ScottishMummy12 · 05/07/2019 22:03

Sorry this isn't an AIBU but posting here for traffic.
I am watching my friends cats and one of them brought a mouse into the house. The cat had eaten about half the mouse. Do I need to take the cat to see a vet? If not is there any signs I should look out for?
I tried to check google but was getting very conflicting information.

Huh? Mine always eats mice

Elliemayclampett · 05/07/2019 22:04

It’s a cat thing. Don’t worry.

ShinyMe · 05/07/2019 22:05

My outdoor cat eats mice all the time. It's at least half his diet. It's entirely normal.

Summertimeatthebeach · 05/07/2019 22:06

The vet can't resurrect the mouse.....

anothernotherone · 05/07/2019 22:06

Grin no, the cat will be fine.

Is this real?

If your child (or younger sibling) eats a boggie you don't need to take them to the doctor either.

Nor if your friend's dog eats a fly.

BertrandRussell · 05/07/2019 22:06

Sorry? Is this a serious thread?

ScottishMummy12 · 05/07/2019 22:06

Thank you! I have never looked after a cat before and when I googled about it afterwards I started to panic.

My cat ate tons of mice and lived to a good old age. That’s what cats do!

CrotchetyQuaver · 05/07/2019 22:06

Um, it's what cats do OP

kalinkafoxtrot45 · 05/07/2019 22:07

Poor old mouse though...

saynotoselfid · 05/07/2019 22:07

Seriously? Have you never seen Tom and Jerry? They're meant to eat mice.

Poppins2016 · 05/07/2019 22:09

My cat loves (to eat) a mouse... in fact, our old neighbours were sad when we moved, because he was so good at pest control!

ScottishMummy12 · 05/07/2019 22:10

Sorry if people don't think this is real but it's my first time looking after a cat. When I googled it said to look out for signs of poisoning and other diseases. The last thing I want to do is phone my friend on holiday to tell her her cat is dead or seriously ill.

OP posts:
ImNotYourGranny · 05/07/2019 22:11

It not eating them that's a problem. It's when they bring them in alive and let them and it takes you a week to catch the bloody thing.

ImNotYourGranny · 05/07/2019 22:12

*let them go

ScreamingValenta · 05/07/2019 22:13

Professor Google is probably thinking of the small possibility the cat has eaten a rodent that has itself consumed rodent poison. Unless the cat shows signs of being unwell, you have no reason to be concerned.

LadyOfTheCanyon · 05/07/2019 22:15

Ah Bless. It's scary when they first bring one in but don't worry OP. It's The Way Of The Cat. My Vet is always moaning about what a fatty fatty boom boom my cat is but as an outdoor cat his life is 20% crapping in neighbours gardens, 50% snoozing on a chair in the garden, 20% begging food from neighbours and 10% fighting foxes. I can't control his life outside the house and nor would I want to. Grin

Lindy2 · 05/07/2019 22:16

The cat will be very pleased with himself.
If he only are half it's very likely the other half was a gift for you. Grin
I don't recommend you eat it though.

Lindy2 · 05/07/2019 22:18

are = ate

ferretface · 05/07/2019 22:18

The cat will be fine. It probably eats them all the time!

bingbongnoise · 05/07/2019 22:18

Won't hurt your kitty @ScottishMummy12 but you wait til he/she voms it back up, half dissolved! BLEH!

HarryElephante · 05/07/2019 22:18

Call the Daily Star. They will pay for a story like this.

Cat In Eating Mouse Shock!

CSIblonde · 05/07/2019 22:20

It's a cat thing. At least it was dead. My cat used to bring in live field mice to play with, never to eat, which are tinier than normal mice & buggers to catch to re release. Watching her eat huge spiders was a bit gross tho: her fave 'snack'.

ragged · 05/07/2019 22:31

What do you think cats are supposed to eat, OP?
Bet it wasn't a mouse. Bet it was a vole or a shrew or some other rodent.

SamBeckett · 05/07/2019 22:40

@Summertimeatthebeach Grin grin] Grin lol !

I have often wondered why cat food company's don't make mouse , vole, worm , spider , goldfish , etc flavoured food .
I would hate to meet the cat that can take down a sodding cow or sheep
