Is it unreasonable to post a warning about a speed trap?

Just seen this debate going on on our local village Facebook group.

Poster A: Warning everyone, there are police with speed gun trap at XXX lane today.
Poster B: thanks for sharing, will go slow down there today
Poster C: the point of speed gun traps is to catch speeders and give them consequences like fines or speed awareness courses. Consequences change behaviours. You are wrong to pre-warn people as it removes the consequence which means the drivers won't learn a lesson.

For the record, I'm not any of the posters but I completely agree with Poster C. Typical facebook bunfight has now ensued.

Is Poster A unreasonable to post the warning?

OH runs the village Speedwatch, we're very old, the amount of abuse they receive is phenominal, people would clearly prefer to have their children run over.
Personally I don't see why they need to put the warning notices out, if you're speeding you need to be reported, the safety of the majority is more important.
The 'best' place and time to catch speeders apparently is quarter to nine, near the primary school!

I too am glad that we sorted things out; you're not a fishwife and I'm not a hoodlum... so it's all good

Haha my dad calls me a fishwife when I'm being gobby Grin

It's so out of character for him to speed, it really was a one off and he was so annoyed with himself. Thankfully he's not a MN standard dick.

So no-one here has ever been caught for being over the speed limit?

I had to do a speed awareness course after carelessly doing 34 in a 30 limit, just a few hundred yards from my house. Apparently one's most likely to be caught close to home. It's when people are more focused on getting home after a long day etc, and their concentration slips. No excuse of course. But I'm not remotely a reckless driver. I've been pretty judgy about speeders in the past.
No-one on my course appeared to be a boy racer. On my table we were all sensible, reasonably mature (mid 30s - late 50s) ladies who'd lapsed similarly and were highly embarrassed about it.

I was done for speeding. It was totally my fault, doing 43 in a 30. First offense, didn't get speed awareness course I got points and a fine. It was completely my fault and despite thinking it was harsh for a first offense it wasn't, it was simply the first time I was caught.
It has however made me really and truly pay attention and instead of think 'well I've slowed from 60 to nearer the speed linit' now I realize I was a twat and need to drive AT the limit.
It had far more affect on me than a Facebook warning, I hated talking to the police officer, I hated the sinking feeling I'd been in the wrong and waiting to see what my 'punishment' would be.
It had far more affect and for that reason I wouldn't warn others

@Babdoc - your post reads like pure arrogance and surely as a doctor, you know that the slight increase in speed can be the difference between life & death if you hit someone ?

However then I see you're quoting Jeremy Clarkson to substantiate your argument so I think you may actually be a fantasist.

I think Babcoc made the point that it's too much speed for the situations. Not speed per se.

30 mph may be too slow or two fast, and dangerous in both.
Any car doing 30 miles per hour in a busy motorway increases the chances of accidents because drivers will want to overtake.
But it can be too fast in a pedestrian area with young children running about.

I agree with C too but not sure I answered the poll properly
