Aww, what have you done with it?

Veterinari · 04/07/2019 18:54

What were you hoping they’d say? Your teenagers probably need some education and a lesson in resilience if they don’t realise that insects live on vegetables! If you're So concerned about the environment, you should be happy that your food is obviously not flooded with pesticides

CCC1 · 04/07/2019 18:54

So what would you have them do with a potentially invasive species that could threaten UK habitats?

MitziK · 04/07/2019 18:55

Don't the teenagers realise that food comes from plants - and plants tend to attract pest species?

They should be grateful - it means the peas aren't doused with great quantities of pesticides and haven't been grown in energy intensive mega greenhouses using gazillions of gallons of water, electricity and even more plastic.

Lockheart · 04/07/2019 18:57

Umm, yes you should isolate and dispose of potentially invasive species which could do untold damage to the local wildlife.

Sallyseagull · 04/07/2019 18:58

I bet you threw them off guard for contacting them over something so stupid.

ShakeYourTailFeathers · 04/07/2019 18:59

Just flick it off and carry on Grin

I'm not sure i'd be worrying about a plastic bag when your food's being flown in from Zambia.

Sparklingbrook · 04/07/2019 18:59
Wine
Allhailthesun · 04/07/2019 18:59

Seriously? This is why “grow your own” died out as soon as supermarkets came along. Our back garden vegtables in the 70’s were riddled with caterpillars, larvae’s and flies.

bingbongnoise · 04/07/2019 18:59

But it's so cute. Poor iccle caterpillar. Sad

PS It’s not too late to grow sugar snaps. Dead easy and grow well in a pot. Did you consider the food miles from Zambia when you bought them when they’re perfectly in season here? Supermarkets environmental responsibility generally stretches as far as what the consumer cares about and wants to do something about.

Passthecherrycoke · 04/07/2019 19:05

Gosh yes OP. They shouldve picked it up and put it on the first flight back to Zambia

jennymanara · 04/07/2019 19:08

Poor cute caterpillar separated from its family and friends.

CollaterlyS1sters · 04/07/2019 19:12

I can't understand buying veg from the other side of the world in the middle of summer when there is so much fruit and veg grown in the UK and nearby countries.

And what were you expecting from Waitrose - compensation I suppose?

cushioncovers · 04/07/2019 19:25

Can the caterpillar be rehomed?

SpanishTiles · 04/07/2019 19:31

What the what now? It's a facking caterpillar! ConfusedConfusedConfused

Flying in from Zambia > plastic bag

Nerno · 04/07/2019 19:31

Your teenagers are being ridiculous and yes kill it, don't release it when you don't know what it is or where it came from on its food miles journey.

recededpronunciation · 04/07/2019 19:32

Better than the large pigeon feather I found in a bag of frozen veg from Waitrose. We’ve been wondering which lucky soul got the rest of the pigeon.

BeeFarseer · 04/07/2019 19:32

Call the RSPCA Hun.

Ironmanrocks · 04/07/2019 19:38

Surely it's not going to be an invasive species without mate? Poor lonely thing - leave him alone and give him a name.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 04/07/2019 19:41

Log it with 101 and the RSPCA

GreyHare · 04/07/2019 19:50

My Waitrose have bio degradable produce bags now, so if they used one of those, then YABU.

CCC1 · 04/07/2019 20:11

@Ironmanrocks the caterpillar could very easily be hosting all sorts of colonies of mites, fungal spores and plant seeds so it’s really not as simple as it’s not invasive without a mate.

Tartsamazeballs · 04/07/2019 20:39

It looks like a box tree moth caterpillar anyway. No biggy. Although hopefully it's carrying mites that will kill all of the other bastard things that are currently attacking my garden.
