Four massive, angry bites on my upper back, and they are driving me MAD. I always react badly to bites anyway and these are really evil. Calamine lotion, antihistamine ointment and antihistamine tablets doing nothing. The itching and burning is in a 4 inch patch around each bite!

If you know of any unguent/folk remedy/anything that will make it stop, please share!

Synopen cream, from the pharmacy.

PuppyMonkey · 04/07/2019 16:42

The spoon trick only works if you do it the second you are bitten.

Kelsoooo · 04/07/2019 17:07

Toothpaste, leave to dry, scrape off with a bankcard.

northernlites · 04/07/2019 17:28

Ginger tablets or proper crystallised ginger, eat it at regular intervals, it's a know natural anti-histamine.
It's helped me a lot when I've had hives and I needed something extra even with anti-histamines
Also quercitin which you can buy places like Amazon also a natural antihistamine
good luck

Lizsmum · 04/07/2019 17:44

Daktacort from the chemist, or if that's too much hydrocortisone for you, Boots do an antihistamine with 1% hydrocortisone. It's in an orangey tube. Brilliant.

managedmis · 04/07/2019 17:48

Only thing that works is scratching the fuck out of it with a Denman hair brush

KnittingSister · 04/07/2019 17:48

Never heard of widdershins before, second time this week now!

managedmis · 04/07/2019 17:49

Toothpaste, leave to dry, scrape off with a bankcard.

Ahhhhhhh... Sweet relief 😌

managedmis · 04/07/2019 17:49

What are widdershins?

Utini · 04/07/2019 17:50

Hairdryer. Works better than a spoon as it's a more constant heat. Then hydrocortisone cream.

drsausage · 04/07/2019 17:55

Hydrocortisone.

Our state bird is the mosquito :-D

Technonan · 04/07/2019 17:56

Fellow sufferer here. These things work for me but can be variable from bite to bite. They all give some relief:
white toothpaste dabbed on the bite
a mild steroid cream - an over the counter one - is much more effective than anti-histamine creams
oral anti-histamine, but may make you feel groggy.
You have my sympathy - it's misery. I would put my leg down the garbage disposal to stop the itching.

Leosnewmummy · 04/07/2019 17:57

Inside of a banana skin.... It really works Smile

ratspeaker · 04/07/2019 17:58

Germolene seems to work for me. It has a local anaesthetic that seems to help stop the itch

cattaxi · 04/07/2019 17:58

The spoon trick or blasting with a hot hairdryer will help. Something about the heat stopping the histamine production I think.

Heaviestdirtyestsoul · 04/07/2019 17:58

Widdershins is doing something back to front, or going counter clockwise- my mum used to call me widdershins as I'm left handed- I came to this thread because I clocked the word 😁

ratspeaker · 04/07/2019 17:59

Widdershins means anti clockwise

Greensleeves · 04/07/2019 18:01

AARGH

I was all set to try the spoon thing but needed DH to apply it for me, as I can't reach the buggers. He ran out of time (runs a youth group on thursdays) so he's gone and won't be back till 8.30.

Tried saliva, vinegar and onion juice - all useless. Going to try toothpaste now. Don't have a hairdryer.

the only one that works for me is germolene. It stinks but definitely works and I suffer badly with bites

blackcat86 · 04/07/2019 18:03

I'm also a fan of the Avon skin so soft. I always get badly bitten so a friend recommended it and I haven't had any bits so far. Apparently they dont like the oil in it.

SmallPinkBear · 04/07/2019 18:06

I am exactly the same. As soon as I get bitten I take piriton and put ice on it.

Straysocks · 04/07/2019 18:11

I too get bad reactions and just echoing the suggestions of a steroid cream, which works straight away and liquid antihistamine - Piriton works amazingly well for me after about 30 minutes and if I take it every 6 hours for 24 hours I don't itch again and the swelling goes.

Berthatydfil · 04/07/2019 18:11

Yes to the clicker - apparently it puts a small electric shock into the skin which kills off the chemicals causing the itch.
I also bought a “ bite away” device from amazon. It works on the same principle as the hot spoon but it’s thermostatically controlled. It does burn like fuck if the bite is over bone. But it works really well although sometimes it needs a few goes. This and the hot spoon method work by heating up the insect saliva protein in your skin and cooking it so it is destroyed.

Baboutheocelot · 04/07/2019 18:15

Lanacane cream has an anaesthetic in it and might help, you can get it at a pharmacy.

QOD · 04/07/2019 18:15

Easiest cheapest anti itch is a dab of vinegar

Just makes you crave chips
