To feel outraged at my friends re charity salaries?

Have a group chat going with a load of my girlfriends. There have been some additions to the group chat this week, some I know well and others are just acquaintances. One girl I don’t know sent a link to published salaries for charities. Girl didn’t know I work for a National Charity in a senior position and slated the amount I earn saying people don’t deserve to earn more than PM. At this point I interjected making her aware of my position and she proceeded to have a go at me. I defended my position but most of my friends agreed I earned too much since I worked for a charity.

So AIBU to be pissed off? Also, is this the general consensus or are my mates just dick heads?

I think the charity sector is the easy target.

Should charities pay as much as they do for qualified staff?
Should they work for less because its a charity?
Those in need deserve the best support and whether you like it or not it comes at a price.
You may have a la la view of the world all you like but we all survive on money. From the poorest to the richest.

If you have strong views about how much charities spend on management costs (incl salaries), access this information and take your choices.

I've just had a brilliant idea. All those people that think charities need to be run entirely by volunteers should approach said charities and volunteer to run them. If necessary do accountancy exams, PR training, become a research scientist at their own cost.

Indeed @Theworldisfullofgs Indeed. I’m always somewhat amused at the sheer jealousy that some people have a half decent salary for working in a demanding role. Nothing stopped people qualifying and working their way up whichever ladder they chose. There’s all sorts of excuses , of course, but academic ability aside there are few reasons that totally preclude anyone reaching the top.

If you look at say,Anthony Seldon who is now Vice Chancellor Of University Of Buckingham (Yes, it’s a charity). He’s on around £195 plus house and staff. He gets much less than other Vice Chancellors and donates all his ( very significant) royalties from books and keynotes to other charities. He has a Doctorate and about forty years as a vanguard in education leadership. I’m not sure Fred from Kwikfit is going to attract the millions from overseas students that Anthony attracts. That money circulates in the U.K. economy and employs many people.
