Because you keep referring to the parent as "her mother" rather than "my sister", shows that you consider her role solely to be mother of your niece rather than a proper relative of yours.

BlueSkiesLies · 02/07/2019 19:35

What twerking represents is an explicit sexual act. It’s that simple. If you’re cool with a 5 year old re-enacting a blow job, it’s basically the same thing.

This 100%

Riceandthings · 02/07/2019 19:36

YANBU

tncoffeex · 02/07/2019 19:37

"It's disgusting" she's 5 ffs! She doesn't UNDERSTAND. If it disgusts you maybe let her mum know? Cause we can't do anything about it for you 🤷🏻‍♀️

Storiesarejustthatstories · 02/07/2019 19:38

OP, could you perhaps be black? This is quite common in the black (more so, African American pop culture)?

PleaseGoogleIt · 02/07/2019 19:40

As others have said.. you'd have said 'my sister' not 'her mother' and you'd have known what 'kind of dancer' she was.

DareDevil223 · 02/07/2019 19:40

OP with no posting history wants to hear stories about children dancing in an inappropriately sexual manner. What could possibly go wrong?

BooseysMom · 02/07/2019 19:41

What's twerking?! I must be a dinosaur!! Confused

Storiesarejustthatstories · 02/07/2019 19:43

DareDevil I thought OP is on NC

MonstranceClock · 02/07/2019 19:44

Im mixed race, black and asian. Twerking comes from traditional african dance. Most children will shake their hips when listening to music. Comparing it with a blow job is really quite offensive. Don't put your weird sexualised views onto innocent kids who are just enjoying the rhythm of the music.

People will pile in with stories, obvs.

Like they always do. Every single time.

Storiesarejustthatstories · 02/07/2019 19:46

Monstra yes it's origins were from Africa and it was dance in celebration during harvest but that is not how it is portrayed in mainstream media

KinkyHair · 02/07/2019 19:48
Hmm
Skittlesandbeer · 02/07/2019 19:48

I’ll never forget my dd’s 6th birthday ‘disco’ party. It was very clear which kids had parents who restricted access to adult music videos, and which didn’t. Two girls came dressed in shiny hot pants and twerked. It was very uncomfortable to watch. Very.

The rest of the kids danced around pretending to be animals or just moved freely, interacting with each other. These two girls were copying very sexualised moves they’d seen somewhere, and been encouraged to copy. They danced alone, as if in a strip club.

I felt very sorry for them. I judged the parents, you bet I did. Little girls have so much sexual culture baggage to contend with, they need guidance and protection.

Storiesarejustthatstories · 02/07/2019 19:48

The sad thing about MN is the permanently offended black, mixed and white posters. It is such a stifle.

Glad that voting actually reveals the silent majority opinions.

Riceandthings · 02/07/2019 19:50

Bingo

MonstranceClock · 02/07/2019 19:50

Permanently offended Grin

sure

MilkTrayLimeBarrel · 02/07/2019 19:52

Tell her to stop - it's not pretty at all - not even for older people!

KeepCoolCalmAndCollected · 02/07/2019 19:53

Totally inappropriate and her DM is encouraging her to look like a mini slut unfortunately 😱

WomanLikeMeLM · 02/07/2019 19:54

She is only dancing as an innocent child does, you are making more of an issue about it than you should. So what if you don't like it, give your head a wobble, not the end of the world.

Yep. I've reported the thread.

BooseysMom · 02/07/2019 19:58

MonstranceClock.. thanks for the explanation.

I think i've actually seen kids dancing like this on Cbeebies. Ok so they weren't dressed in shiny hot pants and it was CBeebies so must be ok. Confused

Anarchyshake · 02/07/2019 20:06

I don't think it's appropriate, I absolutely hate that it's something kids can see on music videos and copy, when they don't know what it is they're mimicking. I say this as the mother of an eight year old who has been twerking for a few years now, she doesn't get it past that if she does it then boys are meant to like her. That's what she thinks, asides from that she also finds it funny because it's her bum. She's a vulnerable child and it's just one more behaviour I have to discourage (which is in line with what her support says).

Anarchyshake · 02/07/2019 20:09

@MonstranceClock I think it's absolutely fine under those circumstances. I do hope my previous post isn't insulting; the problem for some of us is that it's not shown in that context and is overtly socialised, which is sad.

Bumper1969 · 02/07/2019 20:10

There's always been outrage over dancing from Charleston when women could dance alone to every dance craze since. There'll be another one along soon. Not worth worrying about.
