To think the asda woman should buzz off?

I'm in asda having some lunch. I'm seated on a table for four and the cleaner is moving the chairs on my table opposite me and sweeping. Aibu to think she should wait til I've finished and gone? Cafe isnt busy so there are other areas she could clean.

YANBU I can't stand it when eating and someone comes and cleans at my feet bugger off until I've finished eating!

MyOpinionIsValid · 02/07/2019 14:07

Communicate with her - ask her to move away until you have finished.

Sparklesocks · 02/07/2019 14:09

It’s possible she only has small windows of time to do certain areas, or her boss is on her if she leaves the area unswept for too long etc

Lola999 · 02/07/2019 14:11

Ask her if she would mind waiting please you are wishing to have a peaceful undisturbed lunch

faelavie · 02/07/2019 14:11

If I know retail - she's probably just doing what she's been told to do.

Pinkwink · 02/07/2019 14:12

She has probably been told to clean that area, I’m sure she isn’t doing it to make you feel uncomfortable.

ICanWearMyBoobsUpOrDown · 02/07/2019 14:14

Being a cleaner is a thankless task. The bosses tell you to do things, the customers aren't happy about it. We literally cannot win.

BossAssBitch · 02/07/2019 14:16

We have a cleaner at work who cleans AROUND me as I'm working, she empties the bins four or five times a day, interupts me asking 'do you need that bowl?' when I'm in the middle of working on stuff (trying to focus on complex issues) or on the 'phone to clients! When I'm eating at my desk she will come and empty the bin. Some people have no awareness

BossAssBitch · 02/07/2019 14:17

And yes I get that cleaning is what a cleaner does, but I don't just go barging into my bosses office when he's in the middle of something even when I need an urgent answer to something, I still have to wait

ICanWearMyBoobsUpOrDown · 02/07/2019 14:18

How dare a mere cleaner clean when you're dealing with important complex issues. She sounds like a right bitch, I hope you put her in her place Hmm

Butterflyone1 · 02/07/2019 14:21

Let's start this again... I'm in Asda having my lunch... it says it all. Please don't expect special treatment eating your lunch in Asda.

The women is doing her job. You'd complain if it was dirty where you were eating. Oh lord [shocked]

Sirzy · 02/07/2019 14:24

It will Either only take seconds for her to clean around the three chairs if it is just a standard keep on top of things clean. If so let her get on with it.

If it’s taking longer then presumably you have sat at a table which is dirty. Therefore needs cleaning. Therefore let her get on with it.

ginghamtablecloths · 02/07/2019 14:28

As has been said she probably has a very small window of time to clean. I used to be a cleaner and I could bet my boots that anyone who stayed late would sit in the 'popular' areas , ie messiest and then make a complete arse of it. If the cleaner can leave it until later then they have to go at top speed to finish it before they have to leave. I'm sure she's not trying to annoy you on purpose and she probably wishes that you'd bugger off too.

Expressedways · 02/07/2019 14:34

If you want a relaxing undisturbed lunch then I’d pick a different venue!
That said, I agree the cleaner is annoying but she’s probably been told to clean that area. You could just ask her politely if she could leave your table alone until you’ve finished. But sweeping under a chair takes seconds, I can’t imagine it was that bad.

our cleaner cleans around us too, I love her! everythings tidy all the time!

your post just screams "im better than you know your place"

the cleaner is just doing their job as you do yours.

Bluerussian · 02/07/2019 14:35

What faelavie and Pinkwink ....and others.... said.

Asda cafeterias are not expensive restaurants where you never see anyone cleaning unless something has been spilled . You have to accept that. It wouldn't bother me at all in a supermarket cafe.

TwinkleWings · 02/07/2019 14:36

@BossAssBitch read back what you've written. Have a think.

sacope · 02/07/2019 14:37

I suspect if you entered the cafe and that were the only empty table and it had not been cleaned you would be posting about how dirty the place was.

AllBirthdaysMatter · 02/07/2019 14:40

even my kids know not to interrupt me when I am on the phone with work.

But YABU OP< you are in Asda, not in a michelin star restaurant, that poor cleaner is doing her job

TheCatThatDanced · 02/07/2019 14:42

She's doing her job. She shouldn't have to stop just because you're having your lunch.

browzingss · 02/07/2019 14:43

I hate this too. I have had this at costa where the bloody staff member asked us to move TWICE in one visit so they could clean the tables. Such an unwelcoming experience.

SunburstsOrMarbleHalls · 02/07/2019 14:51

The colleague was only doing what they had probably been told to do. Time allocated to jobs is very specific usually. When I worked at Asda, every month each store has an unannounced cleaning audit so it may be that the store was due for inspection if they still do them.

Rules were in place and checked on each department such as - must see visible cleaning in progress, no more than two items of clothing on the floor in George and no smudge or fingerprints on mirrors, no crumbs on the floor, no dust etc. It formed part of a set of measures that meant that if the store failed it could potentially affect all of the colleagues annual bonus.

Being asked to love is not the same as a cleaner cleaning near you

AmericasAss · 02/07/2019 15:17

move not love Blush

LittleWalnutTree · 02/07/2019 15:20

I'd be more annoyed at the people who left their food debris all over the floor around your table, to be honest.
