To think the asda woman should buzz off?

I'm in asda having some lunch. I'm seated on a table for four and the cleaner is moving the chairs on my table opposite me and sweeping. Aibu to think she should wait til I've finished and gone? Cafe isnt busy so there are other areas she could clean.

I work as customer care and I have to sweep under tables/wipe them if they are empty-the problem is when I go for the cloth/brush someone will sit down
I usually ask and explain that I don’t want them to be sat at an dirty table and I’ve never had anyone be nasty about it

ShowMeTheKittens · 02/07/2019 15:29

God. it's Asda. It's not the Ritz.

AmeriAnn · 02/07/2019 15:36

Years ago (50 yrs) they would sweep the crumbs off your table onto your lap if you stayed at the table too long. Grin

I think this was in British Homes Stores. Not sure though.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 02/07/2019 15:42

I hate this.

There's this cafe and the cleaner usually comes round and asks how long I will be there. I offer to move but he says no, no, no need, so I stay. Then he starts moving chairs and the lot.

If you want me to move, then tell me. I'll be happy to but don't treat me like a nuisance. I'm just sitting there with a coffee I paid for.

As for Boss she's right not to want someone asking her something when she's in the middle of a phone call. I'm surprised posters think it's OK.

AppleTartlet · 02/07/2019 15:50

Wouldn't bother me in the slightest. I'd probably smile an acknowledgment of her keeping the place tidy.

MustardScreams · 02/07/2019 15:53

You have to get the area ready for the next customers. She’s not sweeping you personally so there’s nothing to moan about.

WorraLiberty · 02/07/2019 16:04

So many people on this thread are recounting their own experiences that have nothing to do with the OP's.

The cleaner isn't sweeping around/near/under the OP and she hasn't been asked to move.

It's just a couple of chairs on the opposite side of the table.

Really no big deal. In fact totally unremarkable imo.

Jesus fucking Christ.

LauderSyme · 02/07/2019 16:28

I've got to say I do think YABU on this occasion. Keeping a cafe floor swept is fairly standard.

What I am wondering is where is that one poster who inevitably pops up, completely ignoring your question but demanding to know something entirely unrelated. On this occasion, let me be their surrogate: How dare you hog a table for four??!! Wink Grin

Laura221 · 02/07/2019 16:32

You said it was opposite you? So not even your table? YABU

WorraLiberty · 02/07/2019 16:34

Laura, the OP is sitting at a table for four. The cleaner moved the chairs at the opposite side of the OP's table.

SilverySurfer · 02/07/2019 16:54

And if the next person who sits at your table thinks the same as you and the next and the next, when exactly is the poor woman going to do the cleaning? I wouldn't mind but we're talking ASDA not Le Manoir Aux Quat'Saisons Hmm

NannyRed · 02/07/2019 16:59

there are other areas she could clean

Maybe her boss likes her to clean where people have left a mess rather than at tables that are already clean. If the cafe isn’t busy she probably hasn’t got another table to sweep.

Not really something that I could be bothered about. Guess you have a charmed life eh?

On MN people could have a fight with their own toenails. There is nothing that can't cause a barney 😀
