To wear this to a wedding....?

PunkAssMoFo · 01/07/2019 21:50

It is abroad in a hot country. I overheat quite quickly and I need a style that is forgiving to my growing tummy. Plus I don’t really want to spend much more money, as it’s costing quite a lot to attend the wedding.

If I AIBU, could you help point me in the direction of a suitable alternative. TIA

A lot of people will wonder why you're wearing white to a wedding if you do

Ninkaninus · 01/07/2019 23:10

It’s fine as far as colour and design but if it’s not linen, cotton or some other natural fibre then no, don’t do it.

bobsyourauntie · 01/07/2019 23:10

OP, it’s fine, very pretty. It’s not a white dress, it’s got a pattern all over it.

Sunshine93 · 01/07/2019 23:11

I normally disagree with people and say was a what you like but I wouldn't wear a full length white dress to be honest.

I don't think it's because you look like a bride i just think it's a bit of an odd choice and people will notice. Full length white dress or wholly in black are the only two no nos i would apply when choosing a wedding outfit.

Ninkaninus · 01/07/2019 23:11

Polyester will be nasty, sweaty and horrible to wear.

bobsyourauntie · 01/07/2019 23:12

I wore a white dress covered in flowers to my cousins summer wedding, as did lots of other women. Nobody batted an eyelid!

EarlGreyOfTwinings · 01/07/2019 23:13

It is only weird people on mumsnet that seem to have the opinion

it really isn't. These weird people are people from real life Grin

A bit of white is fine, but the OP's dress is really white.

VivienneHolt · 01/07/2019 23:14

Yes that’s lovely for a wedding

EarlGreyOfTwinings · 01/07/2019 23:18

there are a lot of similar dresses in different colours on the website- but I agree with others, polyester is not the most comfortable to wear.

Nanna50 · 01/07/2019 23:22

I’ve struggled to find a cotton or linen dress that I really like for a wedding abroad, many have 100% polyester lining.

However if you overheat quickly I would look for shorter as full length polyester will keep the heat in from top to toe. It will likely stick to you.

Whatjusthappenedthere · 01/07/2019 23:22

E mail the pic and ask the bride. these type of questions always go 50 / 50 so best check which side she is on. Nice dress mind you.

NoSauce · 01/07/2019 23:23

Abroad in a hot country? I think you’d be boiling hot. I think something strappy would be better OP.

daisyboocantoo · 01/07/2019 23:25

I think it's lovely

Supergirlthesecond · 01/07/2019 23:27

Lovely dress

Italiangreyhound · 01/07/2019 23:34

Gorgeous dress and looks great.

Lalliella · 01/07/2019 23:50

It’s really pretty! Definitely you should wear it.

Zippetydoodahzippetyay · 02/07/2019 04:07

If the hot country is Australia, that dress would absolutely be considered acceptable for a wedding guest. White with a large pattern like that wouldn't be considered bridal from anyone I know. If it was plain white then yes it would, but I think that is lovely.

Northernknickers · 02/07/2019 06:42

People have gone bananas! The 'not wear white' thing is being ridiculously interpreted here! Yes, it's rude to wear 'bridal' regalia, that might be seen as upstaging, but come on...a floral maxi isn't even remotely bridal! It's simply a summer frock! The bride does NOT need to give permission!

It's lovely OP.

Yesididnamechange · 02/07/2019 07:16

I went to a wedding a few months ago where the bride wore this exact dress, I also saw it in the bridal store last year when I went to get my dress.

Aprillygirl · 02/07/2019 07:18

It's a lovely dress, but I see they have it in mustard and black too so I would be inclined to go for one of them to be on the safe side.

crispysausagerolls · 02/07/2019 07:22

Ffs if the bride is one of the “weird people” like me, you will have seriously pissed her off. Why is it worth it?

Mammyloveswine · 02/07/2019 07:40

It's lovely!!

I find manmade fabrics usually ok in the sun really, but might be worth looking for an alternative in natural
Material you can take with you just in case!!

Look on eBay for some second hand bargains!

madcatladyforever · 02/07/2019 07:42

I think it's lovely.

PeoplesFrontOfJudith · 02/07/2019 07:42

Spend a bit more to get something nice that is a mostly natural material as you will be so sweaty and overheat I that. Are you pregnant? You’re likely to run hotter than normal. Some maternity dresses you can get away with pre and post bump so you could find one that you’ll wear lots after the wedding.

To the PP asking why is it so cheap - because it’s made with no concern for workers or the environment.

Disfordarkchocolate · 02/07/2019 07:43

It's lovely. Lots of people will be wearing something similar.
