To wear this to a wedding....?

PunkAssMoFo · 01/07/2019 21:50

It is abroad in a hot country. I overheat quite quickly and I need a style that is forgiving to my growing tummy. Plus I don’t really want to spend much more money, as it’s costing quite a lot to attend the wedding.

If I AIBU, could you help point me in the direction of a suitable alternative. TIA

To wear this to a wedding....?

It doesn't look bridal to me unless you think the bridesmaids might wear something light, long and floral.

sandragreen · 01/07/2019 22:21

Too white.

EarlGreyOfTwinings · 01/07/2019 22:23

bit white but floral enough to get away with it. Not sure why a long dress would be an issue? Confused

Propertyfaux · 01/07/2019 22:28

I have never been to a wedding that a bride has worn anything like that, how it can be compared to a wedding dress is beyond me. It has a white background but it is a colourful dress.

LittleGwyneth · 01/07/2019 22:28

Its totally fine in colour but I'd be strongly tempted to get a less synthetic fabric if possible. ASOS have some in cotton.

Leftielefterson · 01/07/2019 22:29

Really lovely OP! Have a great day at the wedding

bouncydog · 01/07/2019 22:31

I think it’s lovely for a summer wedding. I would style with coloured sandals and a matching clutch. It isn’t remotely bridal.

Mrsmadevans · 01/07/2019 22:31

Gorgeous ! Congratulations on your baby too!

kateandme · 01/07/2019 22:32

absolutely lovely hun go for it.

Lemoneeza · 01/07/2019 22:32

absolutely fine for a wedding. I would wear coloured shoes and handbag to make it extra clear you do not wish to look bridal though.

Yesididnamechange · 01/07/2019 22:32

My wedding is next year in hot country, i would say no. If it was short, maybe, but long and white is a no go I think Grin

crispysausagerolls · 01/07/2019 22:35

There are SO MANY COLOURS AVAILABLE!!! Why the fuck do people even consider any white?! Just why?! It’s the only colour that’s a definite no no!

Skittlesandbeer · 01/07/2019 22:36

Style, colour & cut is fine. Very pretty. But no way would I wear 100% polyester in hot weather. If what the previous poster said was true.

Youngandfree · 01/07/2019 22:37

Of course, go for it!!

twirlypoo · 01/07/2019 22:38

I love it! Have had a look on the boohoo site to try and track it down - how is it all so cheap?! I want it all!!

TatianaLarina · 01/07/2019 22:40

Polyester in a hot country? Ick.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 01/07/2019 22:43

I love it, can't understand why people are being weird about a white background, especially when there is so much other colour in the floral pattern. No one is going to mistake you for the bride!

EarlGreyOfTwinings · 01/07/2019 22:46

It's not about being mistaken for the bride Hmm, it's about respect and not upstaging and/or wearing white/cream/ivory. As above, there are so many colours available to chose from.

Osquito · 01/07/2019 22:46

I can see why people are saying the because it is white (and long) is a No, and why others say the floral pattern makes it less ‘bridal’ and okay. I think the fact even here you’re getting such a mix of reactions means you’ll get the same off those actually at the wedding - whether that bothers you or not is another matter.

Polyester is awful to wear in heat though, make sure you pack one of those little battery-operated fans (Poundland) in your handbag.

crispysausagerolls · 01/07/2019 22:50

But surely the point is this:

If you are not SURE, don’t do it!

It’s always like that for formal events - if you feel like something might be too short or too tight or too casual or not the right colour, pick something else you feel 100% sure about and comfortable in.

But yes to the PP that it is about respect to the bride.

EarlGreyOfTwinings · 01/07/2019 22:52

I can't show picture for obvious reasons, but I have been to a few weddings where the brides had some floral gowns - which is why I would personally stay well away from white. Of course, no one is going to confuse you, but it's not a great look for a guest.

floral dresses are not that unusual.

FlossieTeacakesFurCoat18 · 01/07/2019 22:56

It's a long white dress Confused
It doesn't matter how many flowers it's got on it. If you wear that people will just think you have no clue about etiquette.

Just pick a different dress! Literally any other colour! Grin

rainbowunicorn · 01/07/2019 23:00

It is perfect OP. It is only weird people on mumsnet that seem to have the opinion that you can't wear anything with even a hint of white to a wedding. In the real world of normality people wear it all the time and nobody even looks twice.

LizzieSiddal · 01/07/2019 23:03

I wouldn’t because it’s long and you said the wedding is in a hot country. A long dress will make you hotter! Get some air round your legs!

IncyWincyGrownUp · 01/07/2019 23:05

I wouldn’t, but purely due to the nature of the fabric, not the colour.
