To think it’s selfish to sit on someone’s shoulders at a gig?

Watching Glastonbury highlights (very jealous) and tbh I’d be pretty annoyed to have my view blocked by someone sat on the persons shoulders in front of me.

Kind of like an I’m alright jack situation.

Or maybe I’d just be thankful a bottle of piss hadn’t hit me yet.

Can’t you just move though? Whenever I’ve been there’s always room to move about.

Russell19 · 01/07/2019 20:12

Well all I could think about when I saw it on Saturday was why would someone want to lift someone in that heat? Sweaty thighs either side of your face! Nice!

GabsAlot · 01/07/2019 20:14

This is why i dont go to standing gigs i cant see alot being a short arse so if im more than halfway back anyway i have trouble plionk someone on shoulders and i might aswell not be there

And dont start me on those fucking flags

Honeyroar · 01/07/2019 20:17

I've never been behind anyone doing it, but I do think it's selfish. The last concert I went to there was a girl on the shoulders of someone on another person's shoulders, with the girl doing the band's signature arm movement. Naturally they got on all the social media pictures as they looked great and had planned it well (they had four other blokes shoring up the guy at the bottom of the stack), but the people around them wouldn't have seen much!

Time40 · 01/07/2019 20:19

It is selfish, and for the person saying move, good luck with that one, especially if you’re watching a headliner. You often end up wedged in for the duration

Yes, exactly. It's really, really, really selfish and annoying.

TabbyStar · 01/07/2019 20:23

And dont start me on those fucking flags

Yes I came here to complain about the fucking flags, definitely more as time has gone on, sometimes they'd completely obscure the stage. I didn't mind too much the shoulder sitters other than being resentful that I was never petite enough to do it myself!

TantricTwist · 01/07/2019 20:24

I was thinking the same, so selfish and annoying for all the many people behind esp short ones.

OMG and those flags Confused
I'd be fuming having to stare at someone's stupid arse the whole time.

MsVestibule · 01/07/2019 20:25

Yes it is! I went to see a band in a stadium in 1991. Three girls a few rows in front of us sat on their boyfriends shoulders and we couldn't see a bloody thing for the entire concert. It was so jam packed, we couldn't move anywhere.

I was then on a really low wage and still get annoyed when I think of the money I paid which was completely wasted. I hold a grudge for a long time.

MancaroniCheese · 01/07/2019 20:26

Yep selfish.

Can I add people who hold their phone up to film the whole thing so that is in my line of sight? Not bad if it is just one quick pic but when there are loads of people with their phones in the way it gets annoying. Oh and nobody bloody cares to see your crappy phone video on Facebook, if we want to see it we will watch it on the TV.

HelloCanYouHearMe · 01/07/2019 20:30

Im another one here to say never mind the shoulder surfers... just fuck off with your fucking flags!!!

FredaFox · 01/07/2019 20:31

I'm 5ft1 I struggle to see at all gigs, having been to Glastonbury 8 times I can confirm that flags are annoying though good for trying to find friends when you go for a wee, the people in shoulders are more annoying as they block your view, are distracting if they are manoeuvring up and worst of all are usually unstable, held up by someone drunk so makes you anxious someone will fall in you.

Ktay · 01/07/2019 20:35

Appropriately enough, this is the image accompanying the ad I see in this thread!

To think it’s selfish to sit on someone’s shoulders at a gig?
Oblomov19 · 01/07/2019 20:37

Fucking flags pissed me right off. And we were only watching on the BBC!

people who are saying just move to the side a bit have obviously never been to a festival before!

notso · 01/07/2019 20:49

I think someone on shoulders is the least of the annoying problems tbh.
Twats on phones filming everything or taking selfies is more annoying to me and there's very little escape.
That and people just talking as though they're in a night club. I went to a concert where the lead singer was paying tribute a band member who had died, you couldn't hear a bloody word as the majority of the crowd were just chatting away.
It seems to be more important to be there and tell everybody you were there than to actually enjoy the thing you've paid to see.

Grandcentralstation · 01/07/2019 20:55

I love Glasto but these four things proper piss me off every year...
Shoulder wankers
Chair wankers
Flag wankers
Phone wankers

YoThePussy · 01/07/2019 20:57

There was someone, a largish child/teen, standing on another person’s shoulders during Kylie I noticed on TV. Don’t see why it is alright for a child to do that. Don’t want to look at their arse anymore than an adults.

The whole thing gave me a headache looked so hot and exhausting - and those fucking flags.

Thank goodness for lovely Robert Smith and The Cure.

YoThePussy · 01/07/2019 20:59

Grandcentralstation what about Bent Wankers. Still in Line of Duty mode here.

EdWinchester · 01/07/2019 21:03

I agree - really selfish. And yy to flag wankers. Wankers.

Brefugee · 01/07/2019 21:07

we go to a lot of gigs, last year we had two wankspangles talking all the way through Billy Joel. I told them to STFU in the end, and they were really surprised until everyone around us suddenly agreed that I was right.

For this year's season of open airs I've bought DH a t-shirt which says this on the back: I'm sorry, is the BAND interrupting your conversation?

Roominmyhouse · 01/07/2019 21:09

Both people on shoulders and flags are annoying but I think the flags more so!

Vulpine · 01/07/2019 21:09

I agree yanbu, though I can't deny there have been times I have wished I was small and dainty enough to sit on a man's shoulders

CloserIAm2Fine · 01/07/2019 21:10

YANBU

it’s really selfish

So are flags and phones out filming crappy footage that no one including themselves will ever watch

BlueSkiesLies · 01/07/2019 21:12

Also “picnic blanket wankers” who get annoyed when people start standing on the blanket when it’s starts getting full. Mate, stand up and put that blanket away or get to the fucking back of the field.
