To think it is totally hypocritical of those people at Glastonbury

To have cheered David Attenborough when he talked about saving the planet given the shit tip they leave the festival site in.

Cant really get worked up about it. What else were they supposed to do, boo him? Turn their backs on him?

Buyitinbamboo · 01/07/2019 11:47

I couldn't agree more

PeoniesarePink · 01/07/2019 11:48

Most were probably too drunk or off their faces to care where they threw rubbish.

It is disgusting but it seems to be acceptable for Glasto. Not sure how they will ever change it tbh.

Maybe clean up their own rubbish?

Bearbehind · 01/07/2019 11:50

Put their rubbish in a bin maybe 🤔

Not sure I see the fuss. On a bigger scale it’s a bit like leaving a plastic beaker under your seat when you leave the cinema. The site will be cleaned up

Passthecherrycoke · 01/07/2019 11:52

There won’t be enough bins. I’m a bit confused about your point- you’re talking about tidying up, not reducing waste. What does tidying up have to do with Attenborough?

Bearbehind · 01/07/2019 11:52

Ah, so it’s fine to chuck your rubbish anywhere as long as you know some other poor sod is going to pick it up.

OP posts:
Bearbehind · 01/07/2019 11:53

It is about reducing waste too - have you seen the chairs, tents and goodness knows what else that is just dumped.

I think in this case, yes

bingoitsadingo · 01/07/2019 11:55

From an environmental perspective, yes. Obviously it's still lazy entitled behaviour...

Plus, there are a lot of people at glastonbury. Many, many of them do clear up after themselves. I bet they're the ones more likely to be cheering David Attenborough

DelphicOracle · 01/07/2019 11:56

The state of festival sites in the aftermath and the beaches in the summer is fucking disgusting.... People need to realise that their behaviour has an impact. In 2017 it cost over £800,000 to clean up - but what about when its muddy and some of that plastic waste is crushed into the ground and never retrieved. What about all those fecking sequins and glittery crap getting trampled underfoot. I mean there are 200,000 people there which is the size of a small city, so imagine how much bloody diesel is used to run all those generators.. There is literally no point being environmentally conscious for the rest of the year and then going to something like that.

Samcro · 01/07/2019 11:56

odd that people are making such a thing about Glastonbury. Are any other events any better?
do people doing the London to brighton bike ride take their rubbish home?
do people who go to other festivals leave litter.

Ladymargarethall · 01/07/2019 11:57

Surely the correct thing to do is to put your rubbish in the bin, or, as the daughter of an old school Guide Captain, take it home with you.

museumum · 01/07/2019 11:57

Well it’s the first year without single use plastic bottles so I imagine there will be far less rubbish than usual this year. That was the point.

Leaving tents behind needs to stop. But there are now companies doing cardboard ones that are delivered to site. Unless Asda and go outdoors stop producing tents so cheap people are willing to leave them then the problem will persist.

Bearbehind · 01/07/2019 11:58

odd that people are making such a thing about Glastonbury. Are any other events any better?

I guess it’s because the demographic who attend Glastonbury are perceived to be the greenest and most environmentally friendly so if they leave this kind of mess, what hope is there.

OP posts:
Kaddm · 01/07/2019 11:58

Think the point is that they all took the green pledge as a condition of buying their ticket. Clearly the bin situation was inadequate though.

MsTSwift · 01/07/2019 11:59

Sour grapes op Grin I was jealous too looked fab

NaughtToThreeSadOnions · 01/07/2019 11:59

There is some hypocracy about the enviromental aspect of Glastonbury.

Last week i was listening to a presenter who was going to glastonbury talking about camping and showers ect. And her co hosts were both saying how they weren't sure if theu could vome with little hygine for 4 days.

And she said "no theres only a few showers for the whole site because they don't agree with water waste" fine ok but then she said it herself "so its all wipe showers" which are even worse for the enviroment"

So i kind of agree with op its all virtue singalling holi than thou appluding david attenborough claiming to be so ecological with their no showers low water waste then using plastic non bio gradable wipes and living plastic shite everywhere.

SkiingIsHeaven · 01/07/2019 11:59

They need skips not bins. The bins are not big enough.

PouncerDarling · 01/07/2019 12:00

You could say the same thing about living in the infrastructure of the UK.

Todamhottoday · 01/07/2019 12:00

''odd that people are making such a thing about Glastonbury. Are any other events any better?''

Maybe because they are not ramming the 'green' 'enviromently friendly' lets all do our bit to get rid of plastic blah blah blah message, then leave mountains of the stuff behind

Tensixtysix · 01/07/2019 12:00

I'm glad that I like wild camping and can go as FAR away from people as possible.
Glasto is for the rich. Always has been, that's why they leave all their stuff behind. Pennies to them.

CassianAndor · 01/07/2019 12:01

the litter pickers get free tickets and a better field to camp in. I know a few people who've done it. None of them were moaning!

malificent7 · 01/07/2019 12:03

Well at Glasto dd and i refilled our non plastic water bottles, bought bamboo toothbrushes and a reusable straw. I do agree that MUCH more needs to be done to reduce the impact of festivals though.
