AIBU to not know what he wants to eat??

We’ve just got home after a day out. Dh is hungry(but didn’t say if)and grumpy. Gets up and opens cupboards and fridge. Sighs loudly and sits down again.

I asked(big mistake) if he was hungry and he says yes and there’s no food in the house. Fridge is full, freezer is full, cupboards are full. Apparently there’s nothing to eat because it all has to be assembled in some way.

So apparently I don’t do the shopping properly because there’s no instant food. (There is)

What the fuck is instant food? What should I be buying?? AIBU to have no idea and want to kill him?Angry

He sounds EXACTLY like my 14yo. So he'd get the same response - don't be so bloody rude and ungrateful, you're capable of passing GCSEs so I'm confident you can unravel the mystery of making a sarnie/scrambling an egg.

LorelaiRoryEmily · 30/06/2019 21:42

@Nextphonewontbesamsung🤣🤣🤣 even if it’s only in the kitchen?! I left him to it. He’ll make something himself, that’s not a problem, I think he just thinks there’s some magical mystical always available ready to eat delicious food that I just refuse to buy 🤣🤦🏻‍♀️

I don't understand why men do this!
Guaranteed if you show him the shopping list before you go next time, and ask if there's anything else he wants, he'll say no.

LorelaiRoryEmily · 30/06/2019 21:43

@ShinyMe that’s exactly what he’s like!!! I’ve tried to gently point that out but he really thinks if I bought the magic food, he’d just eat it and all would be wellHmm

@newmomof1 hit the nail on the head there! I asked yesterday and he said toilet paper and bread🤦🏻‍♀️ They were obviously on the list

He's hungry and it's making him utterly unreasonable. I recognise the symptoms because I get like that too. My lovely husband usually shoved a plate of cheese and biscuits in my hand and says "I'm not speaking to you again until you've eaten that" then leaves the room. I'm lovely and apologetic afterwards. The real secret is not to get into that state in the first place but sometimes it's unavoidable!

LorelaiRoryEmily · 30/06/2019 21:49

@funmummy48 I left the room and went to bed🤣🤣

The quickest fix is to shove a cup of tea and some buttery toast and jam in front of him.

funmummy48 · 30/06/2019 21:52

That is the correct response to hangry behaviour! Sleep well 😉

LorelaiRoryEmily · 30/06/2019 21:52

@ShinyMe noted for next time!!

I get this with DH, he doesn’t want to cook at home (he’s a chef) but he wants amazing food. I can cook, but it bores me.

I do the shopping, he won’t put things on the list, but moans I don’t buy what he wants.

Well, i’m not psychic, so put up or shut up

Greensleeves · 30/06/2019 21:55

I wonder if he means the sort of revolting greyfood my dh used to buy when I met him? Scotch eggs, Ginsters shit pasties, sausage rolls etc? I won't have it stinking out the fridge but I know he still eats it when he's away for work. Bleeeeee.

RoomR0613 · 30/06/2019 21:55

The quickest fix is to shove a cup of tea and some buttery toast and jam in front of him

Or let him figure that out for himself, failing that tell him to ask his mum for help if he really can't manage,

Opossooom · 30/06/2019 22:06

strava my DP does the same 😂

LorelaiRoryEmily · 30/06/2019 22:07

@funmummy48 🤣 thank you!

@RoomR0613 his mother would be no help🤣🤣 I think her cooking/shopping habits contributed to this totally weirdness

This is all a ploy to get you to make his food, if he huffs long enough you’ll ask ‘what do you want?’. Glad you’ve left him to it 😉

FinallyHere · 01/07/2019 07:40

Oh yes, exactly what @Bookworm4 said.

Leave him to it, don't fall for the 'negging' suggesting it's your fault for not buying the 'right stuff' rather than his .,,

Disfordarkchocolate · 01/07/2019 07:46

I get hangry, often caused by having nothing in I want to eat. I do the food shopping though so no one to blame but me. At the moment I'm bored with what we always buy so need to make some changes (still my fault). You need a husband like mine who will eat the same thing day after day, especially if it's pizza.

BertrandRussell · 01/07/2019 07:51

“The quickest fix is to shove a cup of tea and some buttery toast and jam in front of him.”

No- the quick fix is to tell him not to be an arse, and go into another room and read your book. He is an adult human being. He needs to act like one. Seriously. Do not put up with this crap. And for Christ’s sake, do not let your children see you putting up with this crap.

Whoopstheregomyinsides · 01/07/2019 18:35

I’m starving after feeling sick most of the day but no clue what I want to eat- let me know what he went for in case I fancy the same 😂

RhiWrites · 01/07/2019 18:41

The most instant food is probably fruit, crisps, cakes, or biscuits. After that perhaps sausage rolls, scotch eggs, and suchlike.

But I wouldn’t be keen to help someone who refuses to help themselves.

BarbedBloom · 01/07/2019 19:15

I am also impossible when I am that hungry as well. I can't decide what I want and just get hungrier and grumpy. I tend to have leftovers in the fridge I can just stick in the microwave or I have some yoghurt and fruit- just something quick and minimal effort. I totally understood those snickers diva adverts 🤣

trackingmedown · 01/07/2019 19:39

I heard a radio play recently where someone complained that the kitchen didn’t have any food in it, it only had ingredients. That seems to be your DH’s issue. It’s lucky for him he’s handsome. A less attractive man might have ended up wearing some of those ingredients.
